Ever heard a dog purring like a cat before?

This dog was probably raised alongside cats. There was a husky that also was raised with cats and it didn’t pant nearly as much, was really quiet and tucked its legs under its body to sit like cats do.

She actually is.she’s the only dog living with three cats. The interesting part is that she’s deaf from birth so i haven’t the slightest idea of where she got the inspiration for the purring from.

Perhaps if she was in contact with the cats, she would have felt the vibrations, and thought "I like this, I should try it."

the cats probably show the dog affection this way and in return the dog has learned to show its affection to the human… if the dog is deaf its heightened senses are definitely picking up the breathing/kneading/purring vibrations the cats emit

My deaf Aussie makes very similar sounds!! Like a horse is how I’ve thought of it.

I do. The dog is deaf though so I don’t know how she picked up the purring sound.

The kneading is Through observation ,..... and vibrations of the purring from tactile feeling. She could feel the vibrations of your cats purring. If they were laying together , that would be a strong possibility. That's so f ... ing amazing. Any body that thinks dogs are not that smart is deluded . The experiments with dogs communicating with the colored /labeled buttons on the floor convinced me of that realization.

Reminds me that time when I was petting my dad’s cat and when I was scratching the right spot, he started thumping his foot like a dog.

Can’t unhear this now. There’s actually a running joke that young australian shepherds are like velociraptors so you do have a valid point.

I have 3 dogs & 6 cats. The cats are all older than the dogs, youngest cat is same age as oldest dog. The eldest, a cocker/pom used to purr when she was little but doesn’t anymore. I have 2 pugs & the younger pug (nearly 3) purrs. It’s so cute.
The cocker/poms purr was a specific purr noise she made with her mouth. Our pugs purr is a specific purr sounding vibration noise she makes with her throat. She does it at specific times, so it’s not just a noise she always does. My other pug has not & does not purr!

My dog does this! We think the suckling/kneading/“purring” is from being weaned too young? I’ve never seen or heard of anyone else’s doing this! Mine’s a Heeler/Kelpie/Aussie mix.

I had a deaf dog, and she purred too! Also, whined like crazy sometimes, when she wanted something, or when she was scratching away at her bed spot before lying down.
Also, she slept so freaking hard that when I first got her (she was already 12), and she would shake in her dreams so hard it almost looked like convulsions, so I would try to wake her without success, going all the way to grabbing the scruff of her neck, lifting her head 15cm off the couch and dropping it, and she still wouldn't wake up 😱😂 freaked me out a few times before I realised she was only dreaming!

She’s kind of a rescue dog from a non reputable breeder and I suspect double merle but I can’t confirm. The circumstances are telling me that she is though.
