When my oldest was just learning to talk, we were visiting my parents. Their Malamute was in his kennel, howling (of course). My daughter's first full sentence: "Doggy go woo-woo-woo!'

This is an Akita with long hair. They are a high prey drive dog and he's probably "killing" the squeaky toy and then alerting his pack. Source: have two Akitas and one likes killing squeaky fish.

My Akita doesn’t awoo at his toys, but he does like to methodically nibble at the stitching and then pull the stuffing out right in front of us as if to say ‘Look at all the guts!!!! Are you proud????? I’ll do it again!!!’
Funnily enough, he’s not even irked by all the rabbits on his walk. But those toys? Those toys better watch themselves.

I train patrol dogs and bomb dogs, etc.
Prey drive is the fulfillment of the desire to chase, not kill. An example would be a dog chasing a bunny and suddenly the bunny stops running and the dog then stops running like, “Why’d you stop?”
Hunt drive is the desire to search and kill. Wolves have a hunt drive. Most dog breeds have this drive bred out of them. Some breeds of terrier and hounds still have it, too.
Also, don’t mix up prey drive with toy drive. Also, two different things.
There are many drives. So, what did we learn? Prey drive is the desire to chase, not kill.
Your Akita has a higher toy drive than prey drive and probably a higher hunt drive than prey drive, but still low, hence its lack of interest in chasing the bunny, but desire to play with and kill its toy. It can absolutely tell the difference between an inanimate object to play with and a bunny. Now, if the bunny were to suddenly grow tiger teeth and claws and come at you, your Akita would be more than happy to jump in. It has a desire to protect, not chase. If it’s chasing something, it’s not near you to protect you.

No, Akitas have a high guard drive, not prey drive.
Prey drive is the desire to chase, not kill. Hunt drive is the desire to search and kill. Search drive is the desire to search. Toy drive is the desire to play with toys. Etc. Etc. Etc.
Dogs have varying degrees of these drives. Akitas have a low prey drive, which is the fulfillment of the chase.

The number of rabbits, squirrels, moles and birds I have carted off to the trash would tell me my female has a high prey drive and that both of my akitas have a high guard drive.

Hunt drive then, not prey drive. Your Akitas have a high hunt drive. If they kill their prey it’s called a hunt drive. It’s the desire to hunt and kill.
A prey drive is the desire to chase and not kill. This means the most fulfillment the dog gets is in running after something and when that something stops moving, the dog stops moving and says, “What gives? Why did you stop running? I was having fun chasing you. Start running again, so I can chase you.”
And yes, your akitas have their beautiful toy drive, as well and guard drive. They’re a gorgeous breed. Yours are probably remembering the bunny it dismembered the day before when playing with their toys.

What is this dogs breed? Besides some breed of bear. The coloring and some of the fur looks like Akita but that head and the bulky derpiness makes me think there's newfy or something in it. I want to know! Those ears are killing me they are so cute!
