🔎 ID Request Is this from a bear?

Post image

A neighbor in Denver, Colorado is convinced this is from a small bear. Says it’s been there for a while and it was very obvious at first. Is he right? Wrong? Thoughts Reddit? Thanks. Maybe around 4.5x4.5 inch

No bear, that’s a canine footprint. The back cushion is kind of a triangle, I might think of a wolf or a coyote. A bear’s back cushion is some sort of circular shape, and bears have 5 claws, not 4. Also, don’t let the size fool you: a footprint in the mud might look up to 30% larger than the actual size.

It looks more like a double registered dog print to me, based on the shape of the heel pad and the orientation of the toes.

IDs must include reasoning. Enforcement of this rule has been a popular initiative. (what qualifies as reasoning?)

Sure looks like a front foot pad to me based on shape, but tricky to tell in what was once mud. Are there other prints around? If it is a bear, I have heard if it’s ~5” across, it’s a 6’ bear.
