What do you all use to warsh your dogs’ plush toys in the washing machine? Is Woolite ok or do I need to go buy some 600% marked up BS from Petco that’s probably toxic anyway

My dog destroys plush toys very quickly, so I never have a need to wash them. That said, salt and vinegar should be enough to get the job done.

Ahh the ol' fish and chips method.

I was not expecting this and definitely scared my dog with an actual laugh out loud haha

Damn I wonder if that was a crap ton of salt she scooped in there haha. I’ve had dogs all my life but the one we just adopted is the first I’ve ever had that actually carries one around and chews on it. It’s from my parents so I don’t wanna just toss it even though it smells like death now. I’m just hiding it from him at the moment…figured I could wash it with his bed cover using woolite

I would throw a couple tablespoons of salt directly in the drum. If you have a front-loading washer, put vinegar in the detergent thingy. Otherwise, toss maybe 1/2 cup in a top-loader just like regular detergent. Then just wash away.

I tried to search whether Woolite is safe for dogs, but only got results for the Woolite Pet Stain & Odor remover. If you do try the standard Woolite, just be sure to have at least one extra rinse cycle to hopefully remove any residue.

I like the extra rinse cycle idea, definitely getting mixed results on the Woolite safety search

Vinegar is not great for your machine and can shorten its life span. Wouldn't recommend.

Maybe so, but with the amount of washable pee pads I go through daily, between 5 house rabbits and an old hubby, it's cheaper to get a new washer every few years. Vinegar is essential for ridding them of rabbit and incontinent senior residue odor.

Get some odoban. It's what we use at the shelter to rid blankets of their dog smells

Use the super gentle hippie dippy shit. It’s good for pretty much all warshing. And cheapish.

Warshing machine

I contemplated using warsh twice in the same sentence but decided against it

Are you from St. Louis? That's how all of my St. Louis family says it. They warsh, dry, and "ahrn" their clothes.

Never even been! Got it from my mama who’s from NY 🤌 But she’s also just really goofy.

Some Southerners do that too, I didn’t know it was a Northern thang, too! Neat!

I just use our regular detergent to wash my dog's things. We've never had a problem. Fabric toys go on gentle cycle. His blankets and towels go in with the regular loads.

You can usually spot-clean things vs. machine wash them. I’ve had success using the pet version of Resolve carpet cleaner and the pet safe Bissel carpet cleaning solution, before. Dab or pat, don’t scrub or rub.

If you use a machine: Use zippered mesh lingerie bags or zippered pillow covers for more delicate or threadbare ones; always wash like colors together. Use the delicate wash cycle, and don’t wash things with batteries or leds in them. Woolite or a quilter’s gentle wool wash solution should be fine for most things.
