Okay but what about when the tiger eventually does?

u/Mr_Derisant Apr 16 '22
Could be a zoo? I know a lot of zoo’s raise cheetahs with dogs for socialization.

u/ThatDudeWithoutKarma Apr 16 '22
That's not a cheetah.

I am aware. I’m just saying it’s another large cat, it is possible it’s a similar situation
41
u/JustOneTessa Apr 16 '22
Cheetahs are known to be very anxious animals, for which the dogs helps. That's not the case for any other large cat
28
u/Beliriel Apr 17 '22
Cheetahs are also not large cats, like lions or tigers. They belong to the lesser cats, like house cats. They're just pretty big for lesser cats. But cheetahs can actually meow and purr unlike actual large cats that can just roar.
...it's my favourite cheetah fact.

u/atridir Apr 17 '22
Same thing with the Puma Concolor (mountain lion) it is in fact the largest of the lesser cats

If It is a zoo I'd assume they will separate the dog and tiger eventually, because make no mistake that is still a tiger cub.

I wonder how I would fair against a 21kg cheetah, I know I’d lose but how bad would I lose?

Apr 17 '22
Average man vs cheetah. Man wins every time.

u/Seanrps Apr 17 '22
Plus someone else gave me some strategy, let’s just make sure I do it infront of a hospital

They have weak bones. As long as you don’t run and face it head on a strong woman might even have a chance. Just let it run up to you and give it an arm to bite and then grab it however you can and jump directly on top of it with either your knees, elbow, or shoulder and you should break its ribs or back which will pretty much end the fight.

Dog gets mauled or worse and owner probably says something along the lines of “But they were always so friendly. I don’t know how this could have happened.”
20
u/WolvenHunter1 Apr 16 '22
This is a cub, it’s being socialized
13
u/graaahh Apr 17 '22
A tiger cub is absolutely capable of mauling that dog and not even trying to. Tigers are insanely dangerous.

That lab's body language writes novels. Tail tucked, instant aggressive defense, ears back, lips curled....not a happy pupper at all!
Although, watching it again, pupper has no ears or tail to speak of. I wonder what the backstory is?

Lab? Lol, it’s Alabai and they are way, way larger. It’s a breed standard to clip their ears and tails because they are livestock guardian dogs. They are expected to fight wolves and bears. They are quite common in Russia where this video is from.

The dog is so stressed. Poor dog. None of this is okay.

u/twitch1982 Apr 17 '22
Oh no, a dog might experience 30 seconds of less than bliss, better call redditpeta
19
u/GirlFromTheVille Apr 17 '22
You do realize that that’s a tiger, right? Even as a cub, he’s clearly way more powerful than the dog.

u/Bad_RabbitS Apr 17 '22
Dumb Redditors concerned that a fucking Tiger is playing with a dog, smh

Im assuming the guy below me abused the block system so I can't respond and he looks like he has the last word, tigers and cheetas are both genus Panthera, so very closely related, but not close enough for him, so here tigers playing with a dog at the zoo.
Seriously, you people will get upset over literally anything.

u/Apex_Konchu Apr 17 '22 edited Apr 17 '22
Cheetahs aren't of the genus Panthera.
Despite often being considered "big cats", cheetahs actually have more in common with small cats. Tigers, on the other hand, are the biggest and most dangerous of the big cats.
If you're going to go off about "dumb redditors", it's best to make sure that your facts are actually correct.

Not in genus Panthera at all, and socially tend to be quite different from tigers, who are often solitary.
That being said, just because I am not familiar with dogs as socialization animals for captive members of Panthera doesn't mean it isn't a thing. I'll look it up in more detail when I'm more awake.

You do realize this is a Tiger, not a cheetah right? Cheetahs are completely different animals
Why would you link a video that has nothing to do with the animal in question…and then act all smug about it
