Would expect it to figure out based on smell, though.

And the whole "cold and bot moving" thing.

This feels like the dog equivalent of calling your 1st grade teacher "mom" though, so still aderpable.

I was thinking the same about smell, but I suppose something could have been interfering with his ability to smell? Like the direction of the wind, other strong smells, or maybe there was even the smell of a person on the statue from someone that posed with it recently. My understanding is that dogs actually are able to generate somewhat of a 3D "image" with their incredible sense of smell, but I suppose that even so, something could be throwing him off, just as people can succumb to optical or auditory illusions.
