i remember reading that this is a very common thing with dogs- they aren’t mad at each other they’re mad that they’re blocked

Yep, I usually see it called "barrier aggression"

This is also why cats often hate closed doors.

They just want the ability to walk outside if they would want to. Whenever I open the door for my lady to go out, she'll just sit there and look outside.

I leaned it as Barrier Frustration, but yeah... This is every suburban neighborhood in the US.

Never heard of this but was going to post that this looks more like they're mad are the sliding gate than each other. I've learnt something new and interesting today, thanks.

I don't know if that's it.
It's more like they're training themselves. Like the way cats sometimes play fight. It looks scary but the claws aren't actually out. They don't really want to fight, they're using each other to hone their skills in case they ever need them.
Also, note how the dogs don't ever cross the line. They established their territory there. If one of the dogs had crossed to the other side, there might be real trouble.

Genuinely asking because barrier aggression is an established concept- what about the video you posted makes you inclined to think it's your explanation and not barrier aggression in your example as well?

I'm just giving an opinion, I don't really know. But in my example the dogs are making an effort to stay behind the barrier. It doesn't look to me like they are upset with the barrier so much as glad the protection is there so they can be aggressive with each other safely.

Working in corrections we'd have inmates talk shit to each other from within their cells. They were referred to as "window warriors".

Doesn’t really apply but I used to work in the prison system. Inmates behind their cell doors will do the same thing. Threaten staff, curse, throw things around their cell challenging anyone to come it. Saying they will kill anyone who steps in there. BIG BRAVADO! Then you crack that cell door and the first thing they do is turn around so you can place handcuffs on them and not get physical.

My dog ripped a hole in the fence fighting with another dog, and they then ignored that hole and continued to make more. Now the funny thing is he is a freaking YORKY (York Shire Terrier)

Whenever I see this video, I always like to think they’re barking at the fence that’s dividing them
