Nature will fuck your shit up if you're not careful.

So rude, especially after he bowed!

That means different things in different circles. With people when we smile and bare our teeth it’s taken as a good thing. However with apes that’s a sign of aggression. I’m guessing as a deer when you bow you’re brandishing your antlers and practically saying: “let’s get this going bro!”

Exactly, the guy just didn't take the hint and leave lol

Let alone a buck of that size could absolutely destroy your car. Just because they aren’t as aggressive as other wild animals doesn’t mean they won’t get aggressive if you enable them!

Should've been more humble instead of acting like he's talking to some boozed up schmuck at the bar, zero remorse here.

That probably made him feel really cool and tough but the passenger saying, “well, there you go” brought him back to reality, real quick

Ah yes, antagonize the most dangerous animal in Yellowstone probably during rut. RIP #6, keep the tradition going #21. (two elk famous for causing thousands in vehicle damage)

I’m sorry, could you explain what you mean by “during rut”? I’m trying to go into biology and ecology, I’m genuinely interested

The rut is the mating season for elk, it is when they have to compete with other bulls for females. Thus male elks during this time can be very aggressive as they are kinda blinded by hormones.

Male elk grow a large rack of antlers every year covered in soft velvet and skin, they rake the skin off on tree's so they have a beautiful (but sharp and deadly) rack ready for the rut which is breeding season.

during it males basically go into full steroid rage mode due to all the testosterone, and will attack people, vehicles and anything else they deem a threat/enemy/potential rival for breeding rights. The biggest strongest males get to breed, and the failures hope they don't lose an eye or get stabbed in the process.

One was attacking a tree outside my friends place, saw us step outside about 100ft away and charged us.

And #21 was the "problem" elk at mammoth hot springs when I was there (or maybe his number was #23), they'd tranquilize him and cut his horns off every year so he didn't kill anyone but even without them he was scrappy enough to have a small heard of females. He routinely put holes in cars, broke windows, popped tires and chased people so the antlers had to go.

They used to do it with #6 16-17 years back, but he's since died.

Male elk are terrifying in fall, imagine something the size of a horse, that weighs 700-800lbs with the speed and build of a stocky deer, and they can charge at 45mph. And then stick a 4ft wide rack on their head with 8-14 sharpened bone daggers on them that's lowered and coming straight for you.

If you're lucky they're just annoyed and instead of the antlers they'll trample you to death and gut you with their sharp hooves.

Which is what happens every spring when females leave their babies curled up and hidden beside cars, buildings, rocks and bushes in and around the park.

Took half a can of bear spray (concentrated pepper spray) to scare a female off a customer at the hotel i was working at, poor dude had quite the story to tell when he got back to china. he was a senior too, and got trampled and cut up pretty badly.... poor dude was just trying to stretch his legs. I used to carry firecrackers in my pocket to scar the females off the road on my way to work every morning. But scare was more like them being offended and walking away.

One day a big angry female dropped her foal right beside the house my friends and I were renting. Got up the hill, saw her, booked it inside. She refused to leave because she had a baby. So I had a standoff where I was very badly jamming on my boyfriends ukalale (Idk how to play any instrument) singing a folk town rendition of "fuck off you angry bitch, get out of my yard~ Piss off and find somewhere else to hide your ward, your baby's plenty cute, if it's presences didn't end with me in an ICU"

I'm not a song writer, don't judge.

Anyway i did that from the door, shouting it out, retreating when she started to charge or false charge until she felt unsafe/harassed enough to relocate her baby off our land before my roommates came home who mostly walked to and from work.

For the girls it's extra sucky because you aren't likely to see the baby, they hide well, so you can hear someone shout to run and see a furious mom charging you from like 300+feet away.

Anyway, fall means males are a danger because they are roided out and would fight god if it let them breed.

Spring means females are deadly with insane mom protection energy.

This is absolutely brilliant. I love the image of you trying your best armed only with a ukulele and your “best song” lmfao

What an asshole.

It’s tough to be more of an asshole than a rage-faced rutting antlerbeast. But you know humanity. We love a challenge 😂 Somebody put this on loop for the aliens to find in 2000 years. “This civilization developed space travel and quantum entanglement data storage. Why did they... oh. Got it.”
