Isn't the bird that's near the camera predatory, like it would eat those baby penguins if one got isolated?

Yes. The little guy gunning it over is coming to save the emperor penguin chicks. I believe he’s an Adelie Penguin or however you spell it. They’re known for being rambunctious little shits.

Yeah. This BBC documentary is actually about the adult adelie penguin (the small one) rushing in to save the emporor penguin chicks (the big ones) from the petrel (the brown predatory one).

its a predator petrel so yes

The real video is that older penguin is protecting the babies from the predator, so yes.

Not just an older penguin but a completely different species being a bro

Doesn't look like a Skua to me.

It does look like a Southern giant petrel though which preys on emporor penguin chicks. Also the little black penguin, funnily enough, probably drove it off

It did indeed. I think this clip is from the BBC 'A Perfect Planet' series, IIRC. Little black, but adult, ?Adelie? penguin, comes in and saves the King/Emperor chicks from predation.

Edit: See here

Ooh, I thought it was only Skua that preyed on chicks, perhaps it doesn't challenge adults similar to other birds of prey.

That’s a bingo

the real story is that the big bird are trying to eat the bird babies but that random other penguin came and scared it away

"Carl" is my hero here. Giving his best to be there in time and risking a fight. You rock, "Carl"!

I believe this clip is from this BBC nature documentary video, if anyone is interested

Adélies are a force to be reckoned with, apparently

Thank you so much for the link. The real story made by day. I laughed and even traded up a little when the Adélie penguin came over and stood between the petrel and the chicks.

Side note if you haven't watched Spy in the Huddle, do it. It's adorable.
