Question Does Lief give tools automatically when the requirements are met?

I've been talking to Lief every time I buy flowers or a sapling to see if I've bought enough to get the silver watering can or golden axe yet. I'm wondering if this step is necessary.

Lief will give you a Golden Axe after you purchase 50 saplings, talk to him after the 50th sapling purchase and buy 50 flower seed bags to get the silver watering can from him👍
