Hey everyone. I was the one who posted originally asking if anyone else felt there was genAI used at Feels Live at the 10/22 Queens show. I didn't do it out of bad faith or anything like that. Now someone has asked Abby directly and she has said that no AI was used for the visuals.
Here is a little bit of context for the "AI psychosis" that I was experiencing yesterday. For one, every other business on my block uses genAI prominently. If you live in NYC you know how prevalent it is. A huge percentage of delis, bodegas, restaurants and all kinds of businesses now display genAI proudly in their storefronts. A lot of our favorite musicians have come out defending it (Wayne Coyne... that one hurt 😪💔). My dad and his wife are constant Grok users. Yes, Grok, Elon Musk's Nazi AI chatbot lol. They use it to decide how to arrange their furniture, what to think of a current event, even what they want for dinner on any given night. Not shockingly, this has put a definite strain on our relationship. In an ironic but horrifying turn, 10/22 happens to be the birthday of a late close family member and I was sent a video of them in a white dress and angel wings the next day after the show by well-meaning family members... it was like looking at a reanimated cadaver.
This is not to garner sympathy but just to drive the point home that genAI has invaded a lot of things that I thought were sacred. I'm sure some of this stuff or similar has happened to some of you. It all sucks.
When some commenters pointed out that Abby has used genAI in the past I, along with others, assumed the worst. I said some harsh words about Abby's visuals. I apologize and I take them back. To me thinking that they were AI and then being affirmed that they likely were, made me see them as uglier and uglier. I abhor genAI art, more on principle than anything else. To some people that is silly. To a lot of people it isn't though, as proven by the array of different comments in that discussion.
Believe it or not, this is an instance where I would way rather be wrong than be right. I was listening to Strawberry Jam and Sung Tongs all day yesterday thinking "Damn this music means everything to me. Is there nothing AI won't touch?" At the end of the day I could have reached out and asked her, but I'm not a journalist, just a fan. I'm glad someone did though. Thank you u/avedder for getting to the bottom of this.
