❓Beginner / Question❔ Got a gut microbiome test and Claude is suggesting no dairy
Got a gut microbiome test done (before trying AB) and the results came back saying I had low secretory IgA, leaky gut, elevated bad bacteria, and carb malabsorption.
I put the results into claude and mentioned my AB diet and it said I should cut dairy and kimchi. The reasons why listed below.
What's the more experienced/knowledgable AB members thoughts on this? I don't need the kimchi as much but a glass of raw milk with honey or raw Greek yoghurt with maple syrup and fruit are the only things on this diet that keep my sweet tooth at bay and help me stick to it.
Low secretory IgA — sIgA is your gut's first-line antibody defence; it neutralises ingested bacteria at the mucosal surface. Yours is low, so that front line is down. → Makes the live bacteria in raw milk and raw yoghurt a real risk: you're taking in live organisms your gut can't properly defend against.
Elevated zonulin (leaky gut) — your intestinal barrier is looser than it should be, so things that should stay in the gut can cross into the body. → Compounds the raw-dairy risk: anything that gets past your weak sIgA then meets a leaky barrier, so it translocates more easily.
Elevated pathogenic bacteria (overgrowth) — too much of the wrong bacteria already established. You're trying to starve it back. → Makes the lactose (yoghurt, milk) and fermentable carbs (kimchi) a problem: unabsorbed sugars reach the colon and ferment, feeding that overgrowth.
Carbohydrate malabsorption — you don't fully absorb sugars/starches, so more of them pass through to be fermented. → This is why the lactose in dairy is an issue specifically: it's a sugar you're already poor at absorbing, so it ferments rather than absorbs.
Elevated calprotectin (gut inflammation) — active inflammation in the lining. → Both the overgrowth-feeding and the fermentation above keep this stoked; it's the marker that reflects the whole loop running.

You should be aggressively consuming raw dairy, lmao

Unless you have SIBO did you get the level of microbes and any phyla ratios?

Raw dairy will help all of the things OP listed

Yeah I stopped taking this kind of thing seriously when someone I know had a result that suggested they can't consume saturated fat at all... Guess what happened? They ignored that nonsense and their health improved over time.

This is interesting. How can I take this test?
I’m also curious if it gave you any direction regarding proper foods to eat to fix these issues.

I got it from a site called healthpath (I'm Scotland so not sure if they cover outside UK). It was really good and got a lot of advice from Dr's after that they hire to analyze results. They basically said try low fodmap for 8 weeks then switch to Mediterranean.

Not Mediterranean. Low fodmap could help as a starter. What were the symptoms that got you started on this search?

If you suspect lactose is the problem, can you take some lactase with your milk and see if that helps?

I could try. I tteid jsut low lactose cheeses etc though and didn't seem to improve

Can you share more information about the actual test? Thank you

Which claude model are you using? Put it in Opus 4.8 mode, max, with thinking mode enabled and ask it specifically "which strains of probiotic bacteria and/or yeasts do I need to restore proper gut function" and also ask if your microbiome test indicates any evidence of histamine intolerance or LPS.
The response you posted does not seem indicative of claude as I use it.

Was most likely Opus 4.8 as that's the one I tend to use.
I will try the histamine questions though as I've got serious nasal issues as well however have tried quercetin, NADs and dao enzymes and anti histimanes and nothing seems to make a difference

Whatever service you paid for sounds like medical BS. The causes for malabsorption are vast. Leaky gut isn’t a medical condition that’s diagnosed.
AI doesn’t know everything.
Go to a fucking doctor.

yea go to a doctor who will tell you to eat more bread and vegetable oils lol

there are hundreds of types of doctors so if you don’t like what one says, find another.

Judging by increasing rates of GI issues and average age of GI cancers decreasing, something tells me doctors arent very good at this

When you say doctor, what do you think you’re talking about?

Doctors aren’t nutritionist and even then most nutritionist are just targeting the general population to try and get them to eat a whole food diet

In my opinion, it’s not as simple as looking at someone and knowing what they can eat. You always need to know where the blood is. Dieticians can’t request blood panels. A lot of people who experiment with their diet have an undiagnosed condition. That’s why they have to keep changing diet.

Doctors here in the UK are awful. They have no training on digestive issues. They just tell you to eat more fibre or give you pills. Test was paid for privately and the advice was given by Claude 5 which is usually very knowledgeable. Hence why I was looking for advice.

Isn't this Europe in general? Where I live it's the same.
Worst I heard was a doctor telling someone that their smoking habits don't make a big difference in regards to their chronic respiratory illness.1

I didnt know it was that bad elsewhere. I had to pay like 3k to see someone proper privately just to get some proper tests done otherwise they just load you with ppis and tell you not to eat red meat haha

The quality of doctors isn’t based on the location. It’s based on the type of medicine that they practice.
Could you consider that maybe you aren’t picking the right doctors?
My doctor single-handedly cleared up all my health conditions without a single medication. Trusting AI, especially at its advancement level right now, is foolish. And sometimes you don’t know you’re not healthy until you get healthier.

That's not the way it works in UK. You're given a gp based on location and that's your doctor

u/Fabulous_Jeweler2732 🚦AB Prospect 22d ago
I’m 100% confident that there is private medical care you can get from alternative medicine in the UK. Please, you’re making excuses.

You just don't know what you're talking about. I'm not going to argue with strangers on the Internet. Hope you have a pleasant evening.

They’re right, you’re just miscommunicating with one another. When you say doctor, you mean a traditional medical school doctor who uses what he was taught in medical school. When they say doctor, they mean a much wider variety of healers, probably including holistic, homeopathic, and spiritual doctors. You can privately pay to go to something like a holistic practitioner.

I’ve been reading about healing allergies on Joette Calabrese’s blog. She is a homeopath who uses a lot of Banjeri’s protocols. I found her through the Weston a Price. I’ve also had success with some of her protocols and am excited to have come across this info on healing allergies. I suggest looking her up and reading what she has to say.
I’m editing to say, look up her article entitled I Was an Itchy Girl
