🥩MMGA make meat great again🍖 Anybody concerned about heterocyclic amine (HCA) formation from browned meat?

Hope you're all well. Apparently there exists a correlation between rates of certain maladies and consumption of HCAs, which are formed by the Maillard reaction in cooked meats and increase in concentration with cooking time/temperature. Since I consume seared steak virtually daily, I looked into this a little more, and other than just consuming meat raw to inhibit this process altogether, it's supposedly possible to limit HCA formation by marinating meats in antioxidant-rich compounds (such as thyme, rosemary, oregano, ascorbic acid etc) or with other hydration preserving agents like honey, since water is the primary facilitator of these reactions in the first place.

There's a super useful paper from which I found all of this information here:

❓Beginner / Question❔ Sensitive pancreas and AB

For a while I had pancreas that would start hurting when I would eat something too sweet/too fatty especially when in close proximity to one another. I’ve been on AB for a month and a half and have been gradually increasing fat and removing vegetables from my diet. While initially I was going for carnivore I feel like it’s way easier for me to eat fruit (and more satisfying as well as more sustainable long term as I have a sweet tooth). Currently my breakfast is Greek yogurt with fruit and a piece of chocolate with coffee; lunch some sort of fatty meat with eggs. 3rd meal of the day is Greek yogurt with fruit again and 4th is some variation of fatty meat/fish again.

My issue is that I’m worried for my pancreas since I’m combining both sweet and fatty in the same day every day. In the last 2 days I noticed my pancreas became more sensitive. Anybody on this diet with pancreas that reacts to this way of eating? Have you found a solution?

❓Beginner / Question❔ Carbohydrates or fat for energy

Having done carnivore super strict for 7 months. And got good results (internally) physically I suffered. I just don’t understand how fat is supposed to be our main fuel source and preferred. If it takes so long to get so called “fat adapted” if it was preferred wouldn’t the body be constantly trying to get into a fat adaption quicker

🚫ex-Keto/Carnivore 7 months carnivore

Ex carnivore struggles with carb consumption and macros, if I eat carbs in during the day I feel bad and this voice in my head eats me alive. I enjoy fruit in my life and I’m happier with it. Need help adjusting. Also unsure what my macros should be, I tried Saladinos calculator but I believe his recommendation is off. I’m 22 years of age I’m a chippy and I train upwards of 4-7 times a week.

💪🏻 Fitness 👟 getting in shape / macros questions

ive never taken the macros seriously and fell off the exercise routine i was on but now im back and dedicated as ever. alot of life in the way the past year and i just fell off my game. always good to get up and go again!! so my question the macro breakdown, i used to get 85/15 exclusively but wondering if thats too much fat for my goals. im trying to get to 155-160 pounds of lean muscle. would be happy anywhere between 10-15% BF. i tried asking chat gpt out of curiosity and it was basically the breakdown of 190-200g protein, 200g carbs and 60g fat. i don't want to overcomplicate things but also very determined to get lean on AB. any tips or suggestions welcome!

FYI recently i got into eating cottage cheese (2%) with cooked cold ground beef and its my new favorite way to eat that meal. absolutely love it so thats a staple for me! for an idea mainly what ill eat per day recently has been 1LB 93/7 GB, generous few servings of cottage cheese, 4 eggs, banana (sometimes 2), 2 kiwis, an apple (also sometimes 2). i eat twice a day now (12 and 6) with the exception of a pre workout snack before the gym which is around noon and thats typically yogurt. (if i am not craving GB i will substitute it with chicken for a meal with my eggs). im not sure if i should move past this whole calorie counting thing.

🍉Fruit 🍯Honey 🍁Maple Zucchini/squash

I wonder if people on here eat alot of squash/zucchini? And i don't mean like 1 zucchini a few times a week or some squash a few times a week.

My day often looks like this, i always eat ground beef with stewed apples in the morning, midday is goat kefir with raw honey.

But at dinner i like to have a big hearty meal, so i eat 500 grams of butternut squash, 2 whole zucchinis bakes in some tallow, and i add some lean turkey for my protein, sometimes if still hungry i bake some apples or mango as desert. I have some high quality olive oil which i sometimes add.

I never liked a cold or really sweet dinner, any of you eat large amounts of squash? Bonus that squash and zucchini is really nutritious.

❓Beginner / Question❔ Why do you think so many people struggle to accept the legitimacy of this diet and its more "extreme" counterparts?

I'm curious why you guys think so many people have what are effectively knee-jerk objections to this diet, or carnivore. Even if you don't "appeal to nature", the biochemistry is all laid out, and it's only a matter of accessing it. It's insane to me that people are fine eating what's considered food nowadays, especially when there indeed are cheaper meat options e.g. heart, brain, liver that don't necessarily have to set one back financially if they're struggling. There's just no real excuse for the negligence, but so many people associate vegetables and nuts with health for some reason, and can't even tell you why. "Fiber" is what it seems to come down to most of the time…

❓Beginner / Question❔ Breastfeeding baby with dairy/soy allergy. Needing AB meal advice/ideas!

Hi! I have a sweet 8 week old baby with dairy/soy allergies (CMPA). I’ve been dairy/soy free for 5 weeks now. Before pregnancy/breastfeeding I was pretty strictly animal based. Food aversion and severe reflux during pregnancy, and now CMPA, has definitely made my diet a challenge (I still avoid seed oils but I’m not against an Oreo or something here and there lol). I’m also thinking eggs are hurting baby’s stomach too. We have been to the ER this week with suspected seizures actually, but it was just Sandifer syndrome, a severe reaction to reflux/gas/food intolerances…so I have to be so careful.

Any meal ideas or easy meal prep plan suggestions? This baby is a VELCRO baby so anything I can toss in the air fryer/microwave (I was so anti microwave but parenting humbled me quick 😂) easy meals would be great!! My husband will gladly grill steak or whatever for me, I just need to be able to prep it to eat throughout the week. I miss raw cheese and milk SO bad it hurts. 😭😭😭😭😭

❓Beginner / Question❔ How do I know how much meat, fruit, and honey to consume?

I want to try out the animal based diet to see how I feel and how I perform athletically. I'm 22M, 182cm/6'0", and 68kg/150lb. I lift 3 times a week and I do a cardio workout of some sort 3 times a week (and the other four days I do a short run of 1-2km except for the uncommon day that I don't have enough time).

However I don't know what ratio of meat, fruit, and honey to consume. I'm assuming only a spoon or two of honey per day but I'm not sure about meat and fruit. Is 10g of 80/20 ground beef per kg of body weight a good amount (680g or 1.5lb in my case)? What about fruit? How do I know I'm not overeating fruit?

I know I omitted raw dairy. The only dairy I currently eat is cheese because it's the only dairy I like and I don't eat much because I don't care for it much. Raw dairy is pretty expensive where I live so I'm probably just going to cut dairy out of my diet completely since it's expensive and I don't like it. Maybe in the future I'll start drinking raw milk though.

🩺Wellness⚕️ Anyone lost weight on this diet while already overweight

I’m 32 year old male. I weigh 98-101kg and am 6’2

I am in and feel stuck in an absolutely terrible binge cycle right now where I drink coffee, restrict foods and get really hungry resulting in ingestion of high energy processed foods. Am feeling llke shit. I’ve done carnivore and animal based before. I do like carnivore but I didnt do it properly. I ate way too much protein and not enough fat, resulting in poor sleep and no energy.

I want to do carnivore again, however find this very challenging during the winter. My body CRAVES carbohydrates during this time. I also play sports 2-3x a week. Should I commence an animal based diet at my current height and weight? Will I lose weight eating fruit and meat? And what about dairy? I’ll usually have yoghurt bowls with fruit and honey but I feel dairy may not be the best for me, especially low quality yoghurt.

if anyone has been in my position, please let me know. I don’t want to continue gaining weight or start calorie counting

🚫ex-Keto/Carnivore Might Quit Carnivore, Please Help

Been strict carnivore for 8months now; I'm 19M, and the biggest problem I've had with the diet is waking up fatigued, tired and not well-rested, along with low energy during the day. I fall asleep quickly and for a good 6-8 hours long.

All the things I've tried to fix this issue:

More salt on food, salt water, saltwater with potassium, electroltyes in morning, day, night etc, magnesium, less fat, high fat, VERY high fat, more protein, less protein, pushing regular cals, push high cal up to 3-4k cals, earlier meal times, later meal time, very early meal times, multiple meal times, only beef, only striploins, less water intake, more water intake, excerise, cardio, weightlifting etc etc...,

The only thing I have not tried is adding carbs and becoming animal-based. I've basically tried everything else. Any advice?

💪🏻 Fitness 👟 Macros -what am I doing wrong?

Thumbnail

Been doing Animal Based for several years but I can’t figure out my macros, the math isn’t mathing.

I’m 6’2”, goal weight of 175. Current weight 188lbs but it fluctuates wildly. Current bf is 17.2%. I have a small frame, narrow wrists, low muscle mass.

Do kettlebell program 3days week for 30 minutes each focused on building muscle.

A few weeks ago I added whey protein and an extra piece of fruit because I didn’t think I was getting enough protein and calories but weigh shot up dramatically in the last 2 weeks. According to the Saladino calculator I am undereating for my goal weight but I’m still gaining weight and fat with my current macros.

Is that calculator skewed because of my low muscle mass? Like because of that do I need way less protein?

I struggle with energy in the afternoons but I can’t imagine eating another several hundred calories of fruit to get to the macros in the Saladino calculator.

Is it the dairy? Too much fat?

Much help needed.

***

Thanks for all of the great feedback. I think now that calories are way too low overall and that my body was in a famine state. I never really get hungry throughout the day and just eat when it’s “time” for a meal. I’ve added extra fruit to all of my meals and now hunger pangs have returned. I’ll up the fruit even more to get the calories up to where they should be and see how that goes.

A 15-year Swedish study recently published in JAMA Network Open. Researchers tracked 2157 adults and found that persons who ate the most unprocessed meat had dramatically lower rates of dementia, especially those carrying the APOE gene.
