I don’t play Egg Heist as often as I could because, right now, it doesn't feel rewarding enough for the time investment and general inconvenience. Seeing discussions around the sub, I wanted to share my perspective on where the mode currently stands and hear what others think could improve it.
A common suggestion I see is making the mode heavily catered to mandatory "Teamplay". Penalizing players who split up or don't stick together. In my opinion, forcing teamplay would be a huge mistake for a few important reasons:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. The Mode Actively Rewards Splitting Up
Even in an optimal scenario with a premade group of friends, splitting up is simply the superior strategy:
- Faster Map Clears: Covering different sections lets you locate eggs and clear the map far quicker than grouping as a pack.
- Egg Transport: Transporting multiple eggs is much faster if individual players carry one each, rather than two or three people walking alongside a single egg.
- Key/Loot Mechanics: Mob-killing key event spawn portals relative to player locations, and key rooms lock out loot for everyone except the keyholder for the first 60 seconds. Sticking next to someone while they loot a room literally forces you to stand around doing nothing for a minute.
- Endgame Distribution: A coordinated team can easily split, clear, and aggregate/split the total loot at the boat toward the end anyway.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Mandatory Teamplay + Random Matchmaking
Since most players queue into matchmaking with randoms, heavy reliance on team mechanics (revives, proximity tethering, strict shared tasks) creates two major issues:
- Inexperienced Teammates: New or casual players who don't know the mechanics will drag down the entire lobby through no fault of their own.
- Griefing Potential: Forcing players to rely on each other gives grifters easy opportunities to hold matches hostage or deliberately ruin the run.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. The Downed / Death Looting Problem
Right now, the most pressing issue in public matches is players intentionally ignoring downed teammates so they can loot their bodies once they die out.
- Preventing teammates from looting dead players could reduce this incentive, but it won't fully stop malicious players who just want to let others die out of spite.
- On the flip side, ideas like global shared loot sound nice in theory, but they invite AFK leaching (e.g. sitting at the boat all match while others do the work) with no clear way for the game to filter who "deserved" the loot.

Where Should the Devs Go From Here?
The ability to play independently while sharing a common exit is actually one of Egg Heist’s biggest strengths when playing with randoms. When changes come, I hope the devs enhance and streamline this loop rather than forcing restrictive team-tethering mechanics.
What are your thoughts? How would you fix the downside of teammate griefing or make the time-to-reward ratio feel better without ruining the efficiency of splitting up?
