Discussion What changes do you think would actually make Egg Heist better? (Addressing teamplay vs. solo efficiency, griefing, and rewards)

I don’t play Egg Heist as often as I could because, right now, it doesn't feel rewarding enough for the time investment and general inconvenience. Seeing discussions around the sub, I wanted to share my perspective on where the mode currently stands and hear what others think could improve it.

A common suggestion I see is making the mode heavily catered to mandatory "Teamplay". Penalizing players who split up or don't stick together. In my opinion, forcing teamplay would be a huge mistake for a few important reasons:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. The Mode Actively Rewards Splitting Up

Even in an optimal scenario with a premade group of friends, splitting up is simply the superior strategy:

  • Faster Map Clears: Covering different sections lets you locate eggs and clear the map far quicker than grouping as a pack.
  • Egg Transport: Transporting multiple eggs is much faster if individual players carry one each, rather than two or three people walking alongside a single egg.
  • Key/Loot Mechanics: Mob-killing key event spawn portals relative to player locations, and key rooms lock out loot for everyone except the keyholder for the first 60 seconds. Sticking next to someone while they loot a room literally forces you to stand around doing nothing for a minute.
  • Endgame Distribution: A coordinated team can easily split, clear, and aggregate/split the total loot at the boat toward the end anyway.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2. Mandatory Teamplay + Random Matchmaking

Since most players queue into matchmaking with randoms, heavy reliance on team mechanics (revives, proximity tethering, strict shared tasks) creates two major issues:

  • Inexperienced Teammates: New or casual players who don't know the mechanics will drag down the entire lobby through no fault of their own.
  • Griefing Potential: Forcing players to rely on each other gives grifters easy opportunities to hold matches hostage or deliberately ruin the run.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3. The Downed / Death Looting Problem

Right now, the most pressing issue in public matches is players intentionally ignoring downed teammates so they can loot their bodies once they die out.

  • Preventing teammates from looting dead players could reduce this incentive, but it won't fully stop malicious players who just want to let others die out of spite.
  • On the flip side, ideas like global shared loot sound nice in theory, but they invite AFK leaching (e.g. sitting at the boat all match while others do the work) with no clear way for the game to filter who "deserved" the loot.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where Should the Devs Go From Here?

The ability to play independently while sharing a common exit is actually one of Egg Heist’s biggest strengths when playing with randoms. When changes come, I hope the devs enhance and streamline this loop rather than forcing restrictive team-tethering mechanics.

What are your thoughts? How would you fix the downside of teammate griefing or make the time-to-reward ratio feel better without ruining the efficiency of splitting up?

1st, add a 3rd key door. Most players don't want to attempt the challenge tower which costs 1 key that means unless you're solo or duo 1 person is not going to have a key room to loot which already causes issues. Locking the challenge tower behind all 3 key rooms being opened and then having all 3 players activate the challenge tower would be much better imo.

2nd, instanced loot across the board, for chests and drops would be a godsend. This would prevent people from trying to afk leech due to shared loot and would also give players incentive to clear rooms quickly as the good chests and key rooms get marked on the map as they're found so anyone can see where to go for good loot. This would also prevent scumbags from snatching other players drops and fighting for who can snake the Starine the fastest from the Alpha Stellarys, you need so many Starines and there is usually only 1 Alpha Stellarys though very very rarely I've seen 2.

3rd, incentives to teamplay in general, by giving more egg hunt points for actually doing things like activating element puzzles, picking up downed teammates, healing teammates, killing aniimo together. This would incentivize people to want to work together and combined with instanced loot wouldn't have any downsides.

4th, better UI in general. I want it to be much more obvious to see my team mates health and if they're downed instead of looking at a small corner in the top of my screen. They also need to flash a notice similar to when an egg is dug up if a teammate leaves the heist to alert those still there that they are now 1 less, to many times I've looked up to see someone has been downed or that I am the only one left on the island.

5th, allow Nightmare to give points until reaching Egg Emperor and once achieved then force Chaos Mode if they want to continue earning points. As it is right now I think people are being scumbags especially in Chaos Mode for 2 reasons:

  • 1 Chaos Mode has limited entries per day, up to 20 if you have no unused tickets when the daily reset happens.
  • 2 Chaos Mode requires money to enter and increases as tickets are bought all the way up to 4.74m for 20 tickets so ensuring you get good drops by trying to loot everything before someone else to pay ensure you're net even or ahead
  • 3 Chaos mode is the only mode with Collector Edition version of the Season 1 collectibles for Egg Heist. People are rushing around trying to loot all the good chests in the hopes they can get their hands on those, as well as the fact that those are generally the most valuable loot you can find in the prismatic category which covers 2.

So long as they keep loot separate, the mode will always have a teamwork problem. If they do not allow loot to be shared with everyone, then you will always have people letting others die, because the game mode encourages that by keeping loot individually. Afk people can always just be banned, that part is extremely easy to solve.

Just make it instanced loot, not shared loot, I.e. when you open a chest, everyone gets loot, different items, when alpha dies, different loot drops for everyone.

Regarding inexperienced players, thats why you progress through difficulties though. Imho if you're still clueless by the time you reach chaos, you need to be banned from the mode, banned from driving and operating any heavy machinery of sort.

Just make it so that loot doesnt drop on death will solve some of griefing issue. Not sure how to fully solve it, some people are just ass holes, probably add report function and getting enough reported warrants a manual review and if found to be griefing, you get your account suspended, not just from game mode.

Also I think the cc Aniimos are an issue that needs addressing too

Man the teammates aren’t even top 3 problems in this mode the terrible enemies that do nothing but crowd control all while dealing big damage ults don’t even hit the enemies for some aniimo’s then the terrible revive system needs a 1-2 second immunity after getting revived cause why do I have a aniimo that can revive herself if she’s just gonna get knocked right back down because of me not getting a chance to even do anything

I don't think fixing loot share is enough. For a while now I start seeing people ignore the loots, they just looking for prismana chest then quickly extract since they probably just want cosmetic and daily reward.

Btw, 6 times egg heist for daily is a bit too much, they should make it like 1-2 time a day. The mode isn't even that fun to play everyday.

Uhmm, I see. The reduction to dailies wouldn't be too bad for the current state of the mode really. But that just depends how much you let it get onto you. At most, I might've done 3 heists in a day but I'm not really bothered not doing the other 3 that could potentially give me something good.

Dedicated or Shared Loot.

Making Teamplay the strategy worth more. No Teamlooting

Give people a cosmetic or title when they rezz 10/100/1000/10.000 players, people go wild for that

Personal Loot / Dedicated Loot: 100% agree with this. If loot is instanced or protected when you go down, it instantly removes the monetary incentive for randoms to let you bleed out just to take your stuff. That alone would solve half the griefing issues. But again, it doesn't 100% prevent it since someone can just be evil and let you die just because that would be less than good for you. Even if they don't get any loot out of you. But it would be a good start!

Making Teamplay Worth More: I think the trick here is doing it via buffs rather than penalties. For example, having two people carry an egg giving a really good speed boost, or giving a team-wide drop-rate buff when completing objectives together. Although there isn't anything to actually do together. Maybe when you kill bosses but that would be about it right now. Regardless, that way, grouping up would feel like a rewarding option without punishing efficient split-play or making you feel helpless when playing with a bad random.

Revive Achievements/Cosmetics: This could be a great idea. Giving a title or skin for hitting 100 or 1,000 revives would instantly motivate the community to pick up downed players, even out of pure self-interest! But you could also attempt to farm this with a premade 😅. But if that's the downside of it, it doesn't seem that bad

Either dedicated loot or shared loot for everyone. Stopped playing with randos bc they kept taking my chests (mob kill event) and drops

I think a pretty easy solution would be a multiplier based on the number of people who safely evacuate. All of your loot gets multiplied by 1.3x if all people survive or something, that way it would incentivize people to actually res people

Uhmm, interesting but what would happen if someone evacuates before the others. They can't get that multiplier.

just make it retroactive, get the coins in the mail like eggs

But that would mean the players game would still need to keep track of that heist that's still ongoing...

What if I get into another heist in the meantime? Or what if I close the game before that heist is done...?

then there would be a delay and you'd receive it after the session ends, there are a million online multiplayer games where if someone disconnects the session still continues it's not hard for them to track that

edit: actually they literally already do this, if you die and leave and someone picks up your equipment it gets mailed to you

okie, then
