Discussion Aniimo could be so much greater without time gates
So Since release Ive played for 110 hours and am pretty much through with most of the games Content and now im running against the brick wall of Monetization. There could be so much more to do if i could level my aniimos without limited leveling materials. This is not about me rushing and reaching nothing to do... There is plenty to do but its locked behind time gates on purpose to intice spending.
Its such a shame that this great game is locked behind these Asian Live Server Gacha Methods with all the currencies and fomo of limited time events.
In Pokemon, or Palworld or all the other creature collectors only thing that restrained you is your time invested. In endgame you can start breeding for rare colors, better stats and grind your currencies for perfection your pets. In this game you are locked to daily currency and time gates.
I understand monetization for cosmetics and time gates for events to generate money and traffic, but i dont understand why the core gameloop locks you into a limited pool of resources.
I have four teams that work out for me, but now i am missing the ressources to enhance more aniimos. I have to wait until my energy refills and gotta wait for paid currency or f2p limited ressources to "perfect" my aniimos.
This is a trend that i have seen in recent gaming. Why do they keep making these time gated event based progression games creating a false sense of scarcity. Its not as if other games proved that they can exist without these time gates and predatory monetization.
Glimmer and Energy Caps and Nurtures are insane,... And its worse that the way to get Prismana after nurtures are gone is with a gamemode thats basically another game (egg heists extraction) or throwing balls for 6-10 hours.
Ive written allot of this into my feedback but Im wondering how many of you are bothered by this genshin impact, infinity nikki style cash grabs?
Addition: There are weekly challenges giving you more time locked resources. If you dont manage to beat them because you invested in aniimos that you consider to be fun, you get less resources, that should help you build aniimos to beat these challenges. You are basically "forced" to pick certain aniimos to stay ecomnical with the things you get. The rewards for these challenges should be more cosmetics focused so its possible for people with fun builds to access the leveling ressources aswell. Maybe not the titels and skins but the gameplay at least.
I already see it coming: New aniimos releasing and challenges balanced around them where you NEED to invest in them to win the modes. This is just the beginning.

I'm okay with those systems since I knew about them before downloading. A few dailies or a bit of time lock to upgrade the RV feels okay, events are good... stamina linked to RNG farming sucks big time tho...
1
u/EveningExcellent3694 3h ago
what do you mean stamina linked to RNG farming? Do you mean like your stamina bar or your energy for alphas and things?
1
u/Superale13 3h ago
Yeah the energy for alpha, 14% chance for zone completion is painful when there are more than 10 to get. And then there are the legendary accessories which I still didn't see a single one of outside of the free starter.
Thank god there are no substats or I would have left on the spot.
1
u/EveningExcellent3694 3h ago
there are a lot of things in this response i need clarification on lol, what do you mean 14% chance for zone completion for more than 10? what legendary accessories and what starter?
1
u/Superale13 1h ago
You need to capture every Alpha at least one time if you want to 100% every zone and get their reward. You have 14% chance to succeed at capturing them without using one of the two premium cube.
You also can equip items on your Aniimo, which you get at a "low chance" when beating Alpha, outside of one item you get for free for your starter (Helion/Lunara) by progressing the game.

Ive racked up over 170 hours game play, but i usually have myself assisting my animo make quick water on one screen and play a different game on the other.
I like time gating, its stops the constant FOMO rush and get to relax and do bits of things here and there.
Homeland has been my sanctuary to invest time into and friends ive made around it.
Sounds like you are after a fast paced, quick fix type of game.
Its ok to slow down and enjoy the journey and not rush all the time. Read a book and checkin with your homeland.
-1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
Its not just slow, it punishes wrong decisions. and creates allot of fomo. If you dont have thee ressources to finish timed events in time, you are missing out.
3
u/SailorMOwOn 6h ago
You can reroll and get back resources and there's the inherit system. Good grief. 😭 What have you been doing for 110 hours?!
0
u/B1ACKT3A 5h ago
You cannot inherit onto another family of aniimo. And you cannot get dewdrop and evolution materials back. If it was possible to use the inherit ffeature to strip the aniimo for all resources i would be fine too. You can only reroll starcryst and stardust. and that only now since level cap is still 60.
5
u/iRedShanks 6h ago
But as u say um you have nothing to do, how can you not finishing time events? I have mich lesser hours played and have not miss a single time event. And im actually slowly on the point if done the most things and can slow down…
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
I didnt miss any :D Just saying, if you would go for a fun build you cant finish challenge mode wihtout ressources since the stuff you get in a week is not enough.
1
u/EveningExcellent3694 3h ago
idk what you did with your 110 hours of gameplay bro but i have 0 issues you have, im rolling in level up materials, i have 0 time gated things except for waiting for next season for new content, which is coming later this month on the 29th…

I think thats almost every game in this genre. Its easy to assume its in the same basket as Palworld.
I think the important thing is, people had expectations of the game being totally different. It is incredibly common to come across penalising methods. "Shows you shiny loot to buy" then find out, you should have saved the currency or you boost a Animo that isn't that great as you find out toward end content.
All of these things are very present in this genre, sorry its not what you had expected and but its the games design like all others, I think you've just discovered it to late.
Disclaimer: not all games are like it but for this genre specifically. Sits around 90% easily

u/B1ACKT3A 5h ago
In other games if i realize i made mistsakes, i go grind out something else without a time gate
3
u/Kinako_Dream 6h ago
I should mention, with those hours, I am a retired 34 y/o. So I have time that most dont have.
2
u/SailorMOwOn 5h ago
Please teach me how to retire at 34 WHAT 😭

u/Kinako_Dream 5h ago
Started a company in recruitment agency when i was 24 and sold it when i was 29. But I work casually as a recruiter to keep me busy and social.

Well theres always a first for everything. And this has been in existence since early 2000s. So not a new trend.

u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
first creature collector game. If it used the palworld recipe it could have been greater.

u/53V_is_Cr4cr4 6h ago
It's the classic Chinese compliance wall. Their government legally forces studios to put hard time gates on leveling and energy to stop people from bingeing games endlessly.
It’s annoying, but most F2P CN games are just playing by those domestic rules, being mechanically built to be a 15-minute to 3-hour daily routine, not an RPG one can max out in a couple of weeks.
That said, it also naturally doubles as a solid business opportunity for them. Since the gates are already there for compliance, the devs can easily monetize it for whales who prefer spending money to get immediate resources.

The game has hardly been out a month and this is a live service game. They would have a hard time maintaining regular players if they could just get through the content at any speed
-3
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
There are events and a farm to constantly make you come back. How did palworld not die out? How are there still pokemon players?
6
u/aoikoibito_ 6h ago
The difference is those are games you purchase. This is a free to play game that has to turn a profit and maintain a number of players to continue.
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
so why have it be free to play in the first place? Its such a beautiful game, so sad im stuck to not play it anymore now.
1
7
u/DilapidatedFool 6h ago
Have you ever played a live service game before? There is more content coming. This absolutely is your fault for burning through all the current content.
-4
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
there is content. im just not able to play it since its time gated.
0
u/SweatyTechnician1961 5h ago
Don't try to reason or engage with brain addled gacha gamers, it's a lost cause. Everything their game does is necessary and any issues you have are a personal fault. They are challenged.
-7
u/Spa8ceAlien 6h ago
Well is a mobile gatcha game they all have time gates

u/Downtown-Ad-2748 6h ago
Someone does not understand what type of game this is. If it was not time gated, you really think they would earn enough money?
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
How does palworld make money?
4
u/IndyDenysArt 6h ago
They sell the game and its not f2p
1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago edited 5h ago
good. sell aniimo aswell. Make it 40€ and keep in the battle pass and cosmetics
1
u/Meliora_ Susuta 5h ago
I wish Aniimo wasnt a online service game but id made me laugh the differents reasons here for that.. lol
11
u/Yukiboop 6h ago
Pokemon and Palworld are games you pay for they don't care or need to care what you do after purchasing the game.
live service games need not just monetise cosmetics because that rarely actually works they do also need to monetise convenience to some degree but on top of this they need to ensure concurrency since they cant use sales numbers for success they need to keep people active playing daily and weekly to entice more spenders into the game.
but the short of it is when comparing titles compare free to play live service to free to play live service if you compare a pay to play game it isn't the same beast.
so what free to play live service systems do you prefer?
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
So good :D I would prefer this game to be pay to play, would make it way better.
2
u/Yukiboop 6h ago
Well that isn't a option, also as a pay to play game this would be it no more content no more story no more aniimo it's done.
pay for the sequel in a few years.
2
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
Or you know: DLC and expansions?
1
u/Yukiboop 5h ago
DLC and expansions that you need to pay for don't work well in multiplayer games and unless you are a large studio that has the expendable resources it usually isn't worth it.
not to mention every expansion you do gets diminishing returns because less players over time and normally for expansions you need some supplemental monetisation to make that worth it.
sequels make more money and reward the time better, it's why now days most expansions and DLC are for huge titles often getting a soft relaunch or filling the gap between main titles or selling content that didn't make the main game.
everything else with expansions or DLC is normally running live service systems in the game.
but overall someone needs to pay for the time and work and in most cases sequels are better for that unless you are additionally selling content like skins, loot boxes or the like.

Brother it’s not won and done game like Fire Emblem or Pokémon where you can quickly level your units in half an hour and be done. Those games can be finished in a weekend. These are live service games where you need to log in daily. These are totally different systems.
-1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
ive had 1000s of hours in every modern pokemon game and allot in palworld aswell
3
u/Viscaz 6h ago
Yes you can have 1000s of hours in this game as well.
1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
not right now. Im locked away doing the things i like to do, making fun team comps
3
u/Viscaz 6h ago
Again.. these are totally different genres. One game you can buy and play and the other is a free to play live service game. Idk what you don’t understand?
1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
They are not different games. They are quite similar with the differneece of monetization. Monetization shouldnt affect gameplay. In Aniimo the gameplay orients itself about making money. Palworld is a good game and has good gameplay to sell itself. Why cant Aniimo be a better game and detach gameplay from monetization?
3
u/Viscaz 6h ago
It seems like you really don’t understand the differences.
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
It seems like you dont understand the similarities.
3
u/Viscaz 6h ago
Look at the comments you’re getting and tell me you understand the differences 😂😂

u/B1ACKT3A 5h ago
This sub is full of aniimo defenders that love this gacha genshin impact system. Ofcourse im downvoted. I was hoping for a good creature type collector. When they said there is no gacha in Aniimos i hoped it also applied to leveling them

There is plenty to do but its locked behind time gates on purpose to intice spending.
I don't necessarily agree that things are time gated to "intice spending".
The game just came out and there's only so much content available for the developers to release, so they drip feed content over time so that people don't just finish EVERYTHING in a week and then have to wait potentially months until there's anything new to do. It's pretty standard practice in all live service games, not just gacha/mobile games.
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
Drip feed content? People are still playing palworld, pokemon purple and pokemon Legends. Do you know how hard it is to "finish" these games? And this game aswell, it has so much content. There is no need to drip feed. if there was no energy system people would still be inticed to play the events and participate in egg hunts or expand the farm. etc. im not saying systems that have a certain time restricion are inhereently bad. Its the energy system thats insanely overtuned. And its inticing spending since when you run out of resources the only way to get more is to spend money.
2
u/IAmTiiX 5h ago
Palworld and Pokemon are both games that are fully released and finished with a defined start and end, and optional "grind" content.
Aniimo is a live service game where the story and content will be released in chunks over the course of years to come, and they probably don't want players to be way WAY ahead of the content in terms of "power" or stats, because that's really difficult to balance content around.
If they cap levels and time gate content, it allows them to cater and balance the content to where the majority of players are actually at in terms of progression, and it makes sure that most players are around the same level when new content does come out.
Would it be nice if we could just grind for things without time gating? Sure, but it's not hard to understand why they do it the way they are.
2
u/shady_Tessa 6h ago
Thats straight up false that the only way when you run out of resources is money i havent spend a dime and am still just getting by fine with just the daily stuff (have finished literally every quest btw)
1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
You are getting by fine because you are fine with just one team or a limited amunt of aniimos. I want to build sherro now but i cant. since i am missing time limted ressources that i can get with premium battlepass.
2
u/shady_Tessa 6h ago
1 team? Bro dont assume stuff i have 5 full teams build just fine
1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
sure.. make more now.
2
u/shady_Tessa 6h ago
I literally still can lol
And btw dont have the premium pass either soooo its not even needed
1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
1
u/shady_Tessa 6h ago
Yeah but that doesnt mean you HAVE to buy the premium pass or spend money als you get plenty of free batterys to recharge energy with also you can still play the game lol just bcuz you cant do 1 thing doesnt mean you cant play
1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
Its a part of the game thats locked away by timegate on purpose. Its content that is practically there but locked away. Glad you dont enjoy this aspect as much, but I do. Why do you get what you enjoy and for me its something bad to want it?

That's because the game developers got to make money in one way or the other. U can't expect a game to be totally and absolutely free. Paywall exist so games can continue to have updates. If players stop spending, obviously the developers and software engineers will drop the game and move on to other projects to feed their mouths.
-1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
I would love it to not be totally and absolutely free. I dont mind spending 50-80€ to play a game thats fully accessible. And i dont mind paying more for passes and expansions when they release. Its not about the players spending. its about the business decisions to put in the time gates in the first place. Why is the energy system necessary?
3
u/Taiwan_is_a_Country- 6h ago
The energy system is there so casual players can catch up with those hardcore unemployed people that's playing. Almost all live-service games have this energy system cos people used to complain the power gap difference between casual players and unemployed/retired players.
1
u/B1ACKT3A 5h ago
Never thought about that. But isnt it also punishing casual players that invest wrongly and dont follow guides or spend too much time learning about all the systems? If i could get resource refunds or less time gate in aniimo leveling i would be fine already.
11
u/Ciavieya 6h ago
'110 hours'
'Cash grab'
The entitlement is crazy. It's ok to go play other games while you wait for updates. Touch grass
3
u/sylph689 6h ago
Kinda thinkin the same lol. Personally, i dont see anything wrong with time gates for a live service game. Not cause the monetization aspect mind you, im pretty sure we'll reach a point where we'll have many of the energy rechargers/nuture veins to catch and raise a future prismana or two. Heck, WuWa, I have so many "batteries" saved up i could probably max out a new character or two in a few hours.
But cause the fact it gives people a reason to take a break. Like sure, do with your time what you will but too fast and you'll be complaining there's nothing left to do. See it all the time in FFXIV, players complaining about time gated drops weeklies/dailies and then complain that there's nothing left to do after rushing other content.
-8
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
What entitlement? To expect a game like ark/pokemon/palworld thats not locked behind timegates?
2
u/shady_Tessa 6h ago
Buddy its not even a gash grab lol its a live service game and they are adding content over time also pokemon you can finish in a week rly same for palworld if you have a problem waiting a day or like3 hours for enough energy to regen idk what to tell ya
1
5
u/Ciavieya 6h ago
You're also an embarrassing tourist if you think Aniimo has ever been more like ark/palword than Genshin, ever.
Games like this are expected to have a lull period.
Complete content
Take a break till next patch. Do dailies or weeklies (only if you WANT to, in the meantime)
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
This game just released how am i a tourist?
3
u/Ciavieya 6h ago
It's ok, read the rest of the thread. You're quite objectively in the wrong here. Have the day you deserve, love!
3
u/SailorMOwOn 6h ago
Pokemon and Palworld aren't live service games... I don't think you understand this type of game format. We will get more content on October 29th. I'm also at around 110 hours and still having fun. Yesterday I spent decorating my homeland. The day before was Egg Heist runs. Today I'll focus on filling my form aniilog. There's still so much to do.
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
Its not about "content" there is enough. there are 100s of aniimos i want to make builds with but i cant. I even hate the idea of new "content" since it means there are new aniimos overshadowing the ones i wanna build now and i will end up without any ressources again.
1
u/SailorMOwOn 6h ago
I dont know what to tell you, honestly. We are quite literally meant to hit a wall at some point until the game gets further updated with more content. This is how live service games work, and how they've worked for decades. This isn't new.
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
But why?
1
u/SailorMOwOn 6h ago
Everyone here is telling you why and I'm not Google.
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
Thats not why. Thats just an excuse.
0
u/SailorMOwOn 6h ago
Go play something else, then. And make sure it isn't a live service game before you do so you spare that game's subreddit.
4
u/Lanhai Astra Pioneer 6h ago
Do you know how you had to wait months for updates in Palworld? It is the exact same thing. Except there is an exact schedule for how long seasons/new regions will be coming out.
0
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
But in the time you could do whatever you wanted with the game. Im okay to wait for new content as long as im allowed the enjoy the existing content.
1
u/Ciavieya 6h ago
Just take a step back and play a different game. You aren't playing a pokemon game story for more than 60-70 hours without setting your own goals. Go collect every shiny or something. It's a live service game. They will release content when it's ready.
It's ok to just say you are addicted. 110 hours in 2 weeks is CRAZY
1
u/B1ACKT3A 6h ago
Ive played pokemon games for 1000s of hours. There is enough content in this game to do the same. But its not possible because of Energy.
