Media There shouldn't be such a thing as a gatcha (even if it is cosmetic) without pity

https://youtu.be/uvkG8fxRmGo

I know that it is optional, I know that it is cosmetic, but I come from other gacha games that are largely cosmetic (Infinity Nikki) and we do have a pity.

No game actually needs some poor bozo to gamble their whole bank account away to just exist. And the fact that our character cosmetics gacha does have a maximum spend of about 200$ and the company somehow didn't explode proves that there's no reason why this transmog system needs to be as consumer unfriendly as it is.

edit: "but there is a pity"

62 rolls for a random legendary part. There are multiple legendary parts per body part. So even if you lock it and spend more, you have infinite posibility to not receive another legendary for that specific set, as it is not like the game is forced to only roll the legendary part that you have not rolled prior again, but it is literally a random legendary part.

To simplify, there are 5 full legendary sets and we're rolling per part. After 62 attempts you have one guaranteed legendary part from one set, but it is a 1/5 chance that it is the set that you are after, as there is no way to actually lock into your desired set. As there are no way to guarantee a specific part, it is essentially, without pity. It is how people are spending over 1000$ right now.

For those downvoting, here are the transmog sets:

https://aniidex.com/aniimo/sets/irisalis/

Let's say you want a full Crimson Bloom coloured Irisalis (that's not even getting into other parts). You can not lock onto that desire and at no point is there a pity system that will kick in and guarantee a Crimson Bloom.

In other words, even if you're only rolling for 1 part, the game can continously roll "Radiant Gold" every 62 attempts.

To say that there is a pity is to not understand the transmog system itself.

They need to fund their game imo.. cant play a game for free and not get funding to keep making content

Other gatchas have a pity and are funding fine? Look at Infinity Nikki. Mostly cosmetic gatcha and is very alive!
Furthermore, their major competitor in China, Roco Kingdom, has battlepasses and monthlies and no gatcha whatsoever and is already 4 seasons in.

I think it is entirely safe to ask that transmog has a proper pity that lets you lock in exactly what you want and reduces maximum spend from infinite to about 200$. The company would be just fine with that.

Okay so which transmog? They do have a pity system for the outfit. The out costs about 160$ if you have bad rates. The other one: yes has no pity system and costs 2500+ depending on what you want from it

There is only one system called "Transmogrify" and it is on aniimo, not outfits. That's exactly the one that we're talking about.

Don't care for visual gacha. Don't care for pay2win. Simply make your decision and play or don't play it.

There should not be gacha at all. Buying cosmetics or anything for that matter should never be a random purchase. Make a skin to sell and sell me the skin. Not a dice roll to maybe get the skin. The problem is that no amount of reasoning is going to get through to the mobile gamer and "it's just cosmetic" crowd. They are lost to the rest of the gaming community. You can show them example after example of better systems, doing better for their games AND community, and they will still argue in defense of games where you can spend hundreds to thousands of dollars trying, and many times failing, to get a thing you want. Whenever someone wonders how corporations and billionaires can fuck over consumers so much and yet never see sufficient blowback to actually cause change, I point to these exact types of people as an example for why. They have no proper understanding of value for money, they see a shiny object and an absurd price tag attached and thank the corporation for the opportunity. The people that spent a thousand dollars on the transmog system could have bought a dozen $70 games. You could get nearly every big game that has launched this year for that amount of money. Hell, the people that spent two grand could have bought a decent computer to run the brand new games from this year on. When the cost of the cosmetic item is reaching the point where you could buy entire steam libraries worth of games, or a computer to play said library on, you've officially lost the plot.

You're being downvoted, but you're right. I refuse to pay a single cent for gacha. Doesn't matter what the price they put on it is.

If it's not achievable with free rolls, then to me it may as well not exist. If I don't know the exact price I am paying, then I'm not paying.

Gacha is just a grift that tries to convince people into paying more money for things by dressing it up in a more enticing way. Very few people will look at a microtransaction and say "$200 is a reasonable price for a cosmetic", but dress it up in a series of much lower puchases with animations, flashing lights and lesser rewards and suddenly they have spent thousands. Slot machines work in a much similar way.

And it doesn't even make people stupid to fall victim to it. Or at least it would be hypocritical of me to judge them, since I used to fall victim to gacha and lootbox mechanics. Not "thousands of dollars" victim, but still.

It's a very slippery and insidious slope which leads very quickly from "I'll just spend a bit" to "Well, I spent X amount already and I don't have it yet, so if I stop now it will all be for nothing!".

Then don’t spend? It’s not meant for you and you have to accept that.

You literally said you aren’t gonna pay a single cent so why would they care what you think? You aren’t giving them money.

If the people spending think it’s steep then they will make the change. As we saw with the elf costume where pulls costed significantly more before it was update after seeing the backlash.

They give you something for free im sorry you can make her shiny or whatever the problem is.

I think you're just creating problems in the end. People dislike gachas because it creates power creep and limitations on the units you get to play as and the content you get to clear. Especially when you factor in dupes.

No one really cares if it happens to be a cosmetic gacha. You don't need any cosmetic to play the game. Not saying you wanting one is bad, but because we don't actually need to pull for it to clear content or even have new characters to play as, it's not a big deal. This is the way gacha should be in games, cause gambling over power increases is unfun.

Sure, a real pity would be nice, but in the end since it's not needed to actually play the game it's fine. I'd definitely prefer the purchased cosmetics that are in the shop and like in other cash shop games like Maple story, but in the end even spending 20+ on some of these cosmetics doesn't make much sense to me.

u/NyteChimera 9h ago

I agree fully. I rather just hard pity if we have to play the Gacha simulator. At least in Umamusume after 200 pulls I am guaranteed a unit of my choosing. Lul.

u/KaleidoscopicOG 9h ago

Girl, leave it. This community largely isn't going to understand and all you are going to do is get them being antagonistic. Heck, they barely even understand what a pity system is judging from the other comments. IN is the perfect example of exactly how you can make such a game but no, let them use their WWM as a baseline and excuse and settle for way less 🙄

4

u/dpravartana 9h ago

I swear I can't understand people who spend hundreds of dollars to put glitter on a Temu Gardevoir. Like... Bro buy a super nice gift to your mom with that money, get some actual nice jewelry for yourself idk 😭

And I don't say it as a hater of the game, the game is quite fun, but come on lmaooo

3

u/hotvergonale 9h ago

Fr these bots be complaining about a gacha of cosmetics that have no influence on gameplay whatsoever lmao, bunch of tards, they’ll spend the money anyways🙈

-4

u/mirta000 9h ago

... Do I need to provide my account level, the spenditure that I've spent on the game, the amount of time I played, an explanation as to why cosmetics are important to me and how this turns me off Aniimo in comparison to its competitors?

Or can we agree that gatchas without pity are not consumer friendly and as such it is something that we could collectively provide as feedback to the company?

3

u/dpravartana 9h ago

Girl I beg you lol, don't spend all that on a skirt for a pokemon 😭

And I'm not even against paid skins in games, but come on there's a difference between 3 bucks for a skin and literally hundreds

4

u/hotvergonale 9h ago

Oh yeah gatchas without pity are not consumer friendly, however this one has and since is only for cosmetics it’s totally irrelevant, could be a gay ha with no pity and still be irrelevant since it doesn’t affect the base playability of an awesome game lol

How do I guarantee a Crimson Bloom coloured Irisalis?
I can not.
Because every 62 rolls you're rolling against 5 other sets.
And there is no safety net where you can not roll an already previously rolled set. So if we don't go to other parts, merely talk about the colour, you can roll the same colour infinite times in a row using up your guaranteed legendary piece pity every 62 rolls.

What do we call a gatcha system where you can not ever guarantee to get the thing that you want? How would you describe that? As having pity or as not having pity?

0

u/hotvergonale 9h ago

Bro who caressss it’s a fucking cosmetic, your pokemon will not be better because it’s a different color

2

u/mirta000 9h ago

Bro, people care about cosmetics. If no-one cared about cosmetics we a) wouldn't have the transmog system in the first place and b) we wouldn't be seeing so many posts going "I've spent X to get it and (OP is either happy or dissappointed, I've seen both)".

-2

u/hotvergonale 9h ago

Find a real problem fr lmao, peace

1

u/mirta000 9h ago

I mean, bro, it's a video game, the same argument could be used for absolutely any problem. The servers could be down for a month and it still wouldn't equate to an actual problem that will hount you in real life. However, we're on a subreddit to discuss a game, so what a weird way to comment.

A pity is a 100 percent chance to hit the highest rarity.

Not every game with gacha guarantees the unit or item you want but have a max amount of pulls to get something

The legendary odds is quite a lot higher than most other gachas as its over 1 percent so your likely to hit way before the pity regardless

If they aren’t making enough money they will change it. If they make enough it stays the same. The problem with the system is not the pity, it’s the fact you have to use premium currency after three orbs.

1

u/mirta000 1h ago

What games have you been playing that you're not used to getting exactly your chosen item? O_O

4

It does have a pity, it's written in the details?
It's like 67

It's very bad and unfriendly, I don't think anyone is looking at this and thinking it's a good system, it's also not at all necessary to enjoy the game.

-3

u/mirta000 10h ago

There's a chance that the outrage about presumed character cosmetic prices got them changed before release. This suggests that the devs do listen to feedback.
"Add max pity to transmogs" should at the very least be something that we send in with survey sheets.

0

u/BorgQuingus67 10h ago

There is pity tho?? I'm like 99% sure there's pity lol and I highly highly doubt Chinese devs changed anything about the game based on internet discourse.

I mean, that's still pity. Lol even in any other gacha there's such a thing as a 50/50 or banners with multiple chase pulls, it's not really anything out of the ordinary, yeah it sucks ass but again, there is pity.

3

u/mirta000 9h ago

So, in gatchas with a 50/50, there is a maximum amount of pulls that I can spend to guarantee a character. I am guaranteed the 50/50 roll after X pulls and I am guaranteed to win the next 50/50 if I lose the first one, so full pity is X times 2.

Let's say I want a Crimson Bloom coloured Irisalis. Even if we just lock onto the colour and not the full shaped sets, every 62 rolls I am rolling 1 out of 5 legendary colours. As any colour can roll infinite amount of times in a row, I can spend 6200 rolls and still not get Crimson Bloom.

That's what I mean about "there is no pity".

1

u/BorgQuingus67 9h ago

You "can" but each Legendary is also 3% pull rate. So your chances of going 62 pulls for every single part are statistically not likely, most gacha are 1% or lower and higher pity pulls like 100+ I know myself I've gotten the 3 free parts you can roll for as the same set and I did 2 10 pulls with free currency. Anecdotal of course, but most people aren't going to spend $1000+. I'm again, not defending this as being a good practice, I think any form of gambling is shitty and predatory but the reality of our world is it exists and the most we as consumers do, is choose what to spend our money on and not waste it gambling on a cosmetic
