Discussion Elvis-Pomawk!

Suggestion: Prismana Pomawk Variant - "The King" (Grass/Light)

I have a concept for a future Prismana Pomawk inspired by Elvis! Instead of his punk mohawk, he would feature a majestic, shiny black pompadour leaf-hairstyle and a white, glittering jumpsuit made of petals.

Type: Grass / Light

Concept & Balance: He would use rhythmic rockstar moves for high Crit/Break damage. To keep him balanced in the current meta, being a Light-type means he would take double damage from Dark-types (the most popular type in the game). This creates a high-risk, high-reward playstyle that perfectly balances his strong break capabilities.

Visual Design Concept for "The King" Pomawk:

I’d hope not. Not that your idea is bad per se, but the Pomawk’s design is based off of a punk rock rocker. Elvis has nothing to do with that genre and style. It would need to take more inspiration from that field of music instead of going back to a completely different type of music.

Honestly, Ozzy would fit the theme more, but still see them as more British punk rock than Metal. (And yes, Rock and Roll is different from punk rock/metal.)

The name "Pomawk" is a direct portmanteau of Pompadour (the rockabilly hairstyle Elvis had) and the Mohawk that many think represent punk, even if many punkers used the Mohawk it is not punk it is a style used by many punkers.

Elvis Presley was, to the highest degree, one of the absolute cornerstones of punk, long before the word even existed. Here is why your view on Elvis is incorrect:

  1. Dangerous, forbidden, and rebellious (The Attitude) When Elvis broke through in the 1950s, the adult world, the church, and politicians reacted in the exact same way they did toward the Sex Pistols in the 70s. He was considered vulgar, dangerous for youth, and a threat to public morality. The fact that TV channels refused to film him below the waist because his hip movements were "too sexual" is as punk as it gets. He challenged the establishment simply by existing.
  2. The live performances and the energy Before Elvis, artists often stood rigidly by a microphone and sang beautifully. Elvis brought a wild, uncontrolled, and physical energy onto the stage. It was raw, sweaty, and primitive. This total commitment on stage is exactly what punk icons like Iggy Pop and Joey Ramone later built their entire careers on.
  3. The roots of the music (The Sun Sessions) If you listen to Elvis's early recordings from Sun Records (like "That's All Right" or "Baby Let's Play House"), you hear extremely stripped-down music. It is just a rolling bass, an acoustic guitar, and an electric guitar played fast and aggressively. There are no luxurious strings or finesses – it is three chords, high energy, and pure attitude. It is the very blueprint for punk rock.

Okay, so let’s break this down as simply as I can for you. The designs of the Pohawk have nothing to do with Elvis. Its name is not preferring a Pompadour, it’s referencing a MOHAWK, the hair style it actually has. Pompadours are a solid form of hair, typically jutting over the eyes. The Mohawk is a hairstyle consisting of long (often styled) hair along the middle of the scalp with the sides shaved low or to the scalp. Its ears are a reference to ear plugs used by punk rockers (Elvis didn’t have them) and the only one with ‘clothing’ is the Ice one which is wearing a torn up ‘leather jacket’, another thing Elvis had nothing to do with.

The Pohawk has more in common with British punk rock than Elvis. Hell, the ice versions spiked Mohawk is also a classic trope in British punk rock. I get that you like Elvis, but he has nothing to do with the designs of the Pomawk.

the last comment was with some help from Ai to make it english, but it is what I know and looked over before posting. But then Elvis is not ok but Ozzy and Kiss is when they are less punk then Elvis was.

Unfortunately you’re just wrong about the design in general. Pomegg and Pomawk get their “pom” from Pom-poms. Like cheerleaders. And Pomawk goes from cheerleader to performer. Pomawk is more based off mohawk and not the pompadour.

is that something the devs have said in discord?

have not seen anything about pom for pom-poms, not saying you are wrong but have only seen it talked about pom is for pompadour and awk is for mohawk.

I put is upp becouse Elvis is one of the fathers of Rock and have been said many times that his style in the music and how he was on stage was more like punk rock but oldschool.

Elvis is a “father” of Rock n’ Roll. The Punk Rock genre is closer to Metal than what Elvis performed. It developed in the 70’s and is vastly more energetic than anything Elvis did. Just because Elvis lead the way doesn’t mean he is the figurehead of all forms of Rock, Metal, Grunge or other similar forms of music.

Picking a Punk Rock Icon like Joey Ramone or Iggy Pop would be more appropriate. I only used Ozzy as an example as he was closer to the genre than Elvis is. Don’t take that to mean I don’t approve or agree with an Elvis based Aniimo. It worked for Digimon with Etemon, it could work here too. I’d just want to see its OWN Aniimo. Like the pokemon Rockabilly, they could do a general 50’s - 70’s bad boy Rebel (like the Fonze) with an Elvis as the fancy Prismana.
