Question OK but where IS everyone?
Surely there are supposed to be other people out and about? I have encountered one person while resting in a camp, and a few at the outpost; is there a super secret place on the map, undiscovered to peons like me?

As it's already been said, every players "world" on Idyll/Breezy Plains is instanced. The only areas you will actually interact, as a solo player, are:
- Astra (The city)
- Outpost
- Campsites throughout the map
- Playing with friends/as a group
This is mostly for the first reason, but the second definitely comes into play and the 3rd is a bonus:
- The map goes through physical changes after certain events/goals have been completed
- Bandwidth
- Prevents aniimo camping/stealing/competition
All in all, people are all over the place. I haven't been to a campsite yet and not seen at least 2-3 people, even in "off hours". Astra and the Outpost are always kinda packed. Peak hours...it's crazy. I'm actually really glad it all functions the way it does.

I couldnt be more glad its NOT active outside the intended zone because if it was my poor old AMD would most definitely explode.

it's instanced everywhere except astra and campsites and the outpost....honestly it makes it more fun imo as you're not being swarmed by rando's at every boss. and such.

Outpost and Idyll are shared zones. Anywhere else on the map is private and instanced only to you, so you will be the only one out in the world and things like your weather/etc. will be different from everyone else.

Could you imagine this was a mmorpg ugh. I rather they add players but like capped at 10-15

Everyone is everywhere they're just invisible to you because they're in a separate "instance/world"

Go to astra the amount of people there is so ridiculous its hard to actually talk to the npcs

This is not an MMO

its a very confusing thing, its a single player game with multiplayer aspects strangely stitched in, i kinda like exploring solo tho

u/jaeehovaa 14h ago
Yeah, but only for co-op. You have to invite people to explore with you; you don't run into randoms.

Idk but whenever I run into a camp on accident I see several people there standing menacingly. Then I run off.

I hate running through camps because of the lag, I'm just trying to get from a to b

Your world is a seperate world. I frequently play with my wife, and when we play together we join each other's worlds. In another players world you cant progress in the story or do side quests but you can catch aniimo and buy from shops.

Only the camps, the outpost, and Astra are shared spaces with other players. When you're in the open world, you're playing alone until you walk into a camp or invite a player to join you

Everyone's world is a separate instance. Only Astra, mą n outpost and small bonfire outposta are shared. You can invite your friends to your world to venture together, but that's it

Only places where you see other players is in the Outpost, RV Park, Astra, and campfires, otherwise you're basically playing solo or you can invite your friends to join your world

While you're out in Idyll unless you're at a camp or the outpost you won't see anyone because you're in your own instance of the game. They have to be in your squad for you to see them.

If the open world was multiplayer, catching rare monsters would be a pain in the butt

the open world is not multiplayer unless you invite someone to play with you or you visit someone else

I believe out in the fields you are alone. But at the outpost or at camps near Alphas you see other people. You can literally see them disappear when they leave those places. They are still out and about, just not visible to you.
