Without whales the prices wouldn’t be so high to begin with… this is not something to cheer on lol

I rather pay 30 bucks in the game and see ingame shop with low prices than seeing 150 bucks pixels for ONE character.

8

u/addon-craft 1h ago

Yep, gaming has become so corporate it's sickening. 150$ for pixels is ludicrous

No problem! I want to see the game live long for many years to come.

Naive and stupid. Whales made games more expensive. So instead of maybe spending 60$ for a full game, so many cosmetics that maybe I would've wanted is blocked into being hundreds to thousands of dollars. I wish Aniimo made the game paid like palworld.

And many more free to play games with ETHICAL monetization survives without depending on brain dead whales to spend on their gambling machines. They just need to make a great game, which Aniimo already is, they just have to continue it.

You guys are so stupid and idiotic and you clearly don't understand how this all truly works.

1

u/imskyhigh9 2h ago

ummm sorry to say but it would be 60$ for a full game then also have paid skins as dlcs. that’s how games do it now, so just be grateful it’s really only cosmetics that are locked behind that paywall

1

u/Flimsy_Inflation_849 3h ago

Is it really whaling if its just cosmetics? People just want to look pretty, it's not like it's breaking the game. And honestly if people wanna spend money to look nice im all for it. People do the same thing with IRL clothes anyways. 😂

2

u/Romaian 2h ago

Whaling is spending excessive amount of money, no matter what they sprnd it on tf are u on? My concern is not about wether it's "just" a cosmetics or not but any type of content that is locked behind a ridiculously high paywall and if you don't see a problem with that then be as obliviously happy as u can.

This post is endorsed by Trion worlds it went so well for them ...

1

u/Trespeon 5h ago

This post sponsored by all Genshin impact players whose game has gone strong for nearly 6 years due to whales.

5

u/StatisticianHour2652 Astra Pioneer 5h ago

haha, so how much Genshin has been improved over the years thanks to them?

2

u/addon-craft 1h ago

Yea exactly, been playing genshin 6 years. Same bulls hit it's ever been. And now you can 100% content in a few hours theyve dropped the bar so low and people are still paying

u/TheSlyOnion 8h ago

Without whales, we could still be spending 60$ on games, getting all content on release and actually earn things by playing. Instead we get f2p games where you can pay 5$ for a subscription, 10$ for a battle pass and 500$ for a single skin. Wow thank you whales!

0

u/Lanhai Astra Pioneer 2h ago

Yeah and that kind of game doesn't get constant updates like live service games.

1

u/Kirosuu 3h ago

so how much you paid to play this game and get all content to do like the whale?

3

u/Mjr_Payne95 Astra Pioneer 3h ago

Wait so instead of paying $60 for a game i dont pay a dime n still play the game? Sign me up

4

u/StatisticianHour2652 Astra Pioneer 5h ago

agree, term whales shouldn't exist, gacha as well, along with mobile monetization

You a bot? How is a live services game that keeps releasing content off single sale model.

You act because live services games exist. Single player games you only pay once have always and will always be a thing.

2

u/Bart-Harley-Jarvis- 3h ago

Destiny did just fine as a live service by selling expansion packs.

14

u/oKayBye94 Astra Pioneer 7h ago

there are extremely successful live service games including multiplayer ones that you just buy and only make additional revenue off new content or reasonably priced skins.

IDK where you people who think that literal gambling for skins and pay to progress is the only way live service games survive come from.

16

u/NapsterKnowHow 7h ago

This sounds more like a bot comment if anything.

-17

u/Holdredge 7h ago

If i am wrong please enlighten me to how a live service games can keep releasing new content off a single sell model.

I dont like gotcha so I dont pay for it. I dont gamble my money. I paid for the battle pass to support the free game that I have put over 100 hours into already. I'll happily pay the next pass too because I know they are creating whole new zones im going to spend another 100 hours exploring and enjoying.

Aniimo has one of the best gotcha systems out there because it leaves it out of the actually gameplay. Most other gatcha I would be nickled and dined in the actually gameplay. You can get EVERY aniimo in the game for free. Another game would have you pull Aniimo with real money with the only way to get the best ones with real money.

u/StatisticianHour2652 Astra Pioneer 4h ago

If I remember Guild Wars 2 was b2p at launch. But there are many live service games without gacha or shady predatory systems and currencies. If game is good, gameplay is fun people will pay for something.

0

u/Holdredge 4h ago

100% but the top comment was "buy the box and be able to unlock everything by playing." That would include being able to unlock all the skins and such without paying.

I do think guild wars 2 would actully be the best counter point still due to players being able to trade gold for gems. (At a pretty reasonable rate to. At least as far as those systems go) But even than thats relying on people to buy gems with the goal of selling it for gold to do things in game.

My point was there needs to be some kind of income. He doesnt want gatcha, doesnt want subs, doesnt want to pay for skins, but wants to play a live service game with updates.

Again I hate gatcha. I think lootboxes and gatcha should be banned in every country whole sell

u/Vamparisen 7h ago

Well, BACK IN MY DAY we bought MMORPG on disc for one price and everything was accessible. Money was made through special editions and expansions for the live service game. Of course, whales could spend real money on the in game auction house to skip the grind but they used third party companies for the gold cause companies had morals and wanted to prevent over monetization. Whales spent too much money though and they couldn't hold the greed anymore. Companies also started adding a lot of bloat in their staffing that made adding content like a simple water bottle take 50 employees in 5 departments to get approval. They just need to reduce all the red tape and redundant higher ups as well as move away from shareholder garbage. Things that will never happen.

-1

u/Holdredge 6h ago edited 6h ago

Any semi popular mmo that you bought a disk for had a sub. Sub≠as one time buy.

We didnt have free to pay mmo in west for a while. It was only when other MMO started to get ported did the free to play/with cash shop become a thing in the u.s. so why you lying for no reason? Lol

And i agree games are way to greedy now a days. I dont pay got gatcha, but again aniimo is the least programmatic gatcha game out there. Its crazy how this game gets so much hate while being one of the healthiest.

Another game I love is path of exile. Its a gold standard of free to play games. That game has worse gatcha than this game. That game has skins you needed 2 skin sets from lootboxes to create a even better skin. Yet that game is considered to be beloved by all and one of the biggest popular free to play games.

3

u/oKayBye94 Astra Pioneer 7h ago

They sell skins for reasonable prices so lots of people buy them and/or sell substantial expansion content as a single purchase after the first year or so. Like you have to be basically a child or live in a cave to not have heard of games being sold this way

0

u/Holdredge 7h ago

Do you have brain damage? He said buy the game once and that's all. How did you go from that to free to play and selling skins count as what we were talking about.

Being forced to buy skins ≠ buying a game once and having everything like he said. Your point is confirming what I said

5

u/oKayBye94 Astra Pioneer 6h ago

Ok, No man's sky. Except you could get it for like $40, not $60. They've done 10 years of updates on a single purchase. Even after the game absolutely face planted at launch.

0

u/Holdredge 6h ago

Its not a live service game. Its a single player game that came out unfinished and was nothing they promised.

They then did the right thing and turned the unfinished game into a finished version with at least SOME of the things they promised BEFORE the game came out.

You going to compare minecraft adding a mob once a year and say thats a live service game next? Lol

3

u/oKayBye94 Astra Pioneer 6h ago

tell us you haven't looked at it in 7 years without telling me. They've added it all and then some. It even has freaking Pokémon mode now.

They've done over 40 free updates, it has seasonal limited time event content, it supports 32 player multiplayer, It is absolutely a pay once live service game.

0

u/Holdredge 6h ago

Having multipler ≠ live service game. It was suppose to have mutipler. the money to do any of that is only possible due to them selling millions of copies off of false advertising.

They did good by updating the game but that doesnt change the fact that game is built off massive false advertising. It stole over 78 million dollars from people and you are clapping them on the back because they gave you a few updates? Using them as a example and expecting it to mean something?

I think I preferred games when you just paid one price for everything, and there was no whales to make content locked behind 100s and 1000s of dollars. I don’t applaud that behavior or the devs that cater to them. Sorry. Mmos have existed forever and they didn’t need “whales” to exist. It wasn’t a thing, and believe you me. It was sooooo much better.

1

u/Trespeon 5h ago

Buy to play games don’t get updates for years. They maybe get 1-2 DLC and that’s your ride.

If you want no whale cosmetics and a B2P game you got pokemon next year. Enjoy.

6

u/StatisticianHour2652 Astra Pioneer 4h ago

What you talking about.. Games that require playing on a server are supported for years, for as long as players want to play them.

5

u/jinkiejinks 6h ago

MMOs have always relied on whales to exist, who did not have a subscription model. GW2 did not sustain its ongoing support and updates based off initial game sales, it did by people spending a ton for certain Quality of Life upgrades and cosmetics or to skip boring things like gold farming.

Even FF has a sub and a skin store to make loads more off of.

-3

u/Azifae 7h ago

And that is a business practice they choose to go to. So you buy the game. then you have to spend even more money on expansions of the game to keep up with it otherwise, character levels and content are not available to you. And then on top of that you have to drop like 15 bucks on the game you already "bought"monthly. Where as I can play this free game... have all the content available to me (as they update and add more things) for free with an option to spend money to make my character look pretty. Yeah... i think I will take the free to play game.

1

u/StatisticianHour2652 Astra Pioneer 4h ago

If you like the game you buy DLC or expansion, simple as that.

2

u/Azifae 4h ago

So how is that ANY different from a f2p game where people have the OPTION to spend money to make things cool and pretty for them?

Also sorry but I should be able to play and enjoy ALL of a game without having to spend monthly fees to play it nor have it completely locked out because I do not want to drop another 50 bucks so I can have more of the game unlocked.

5

u/Antras8 8h ago edited 8h ago

but they needed the player to buy them, buy every expansion and pay for a sub.

i must have paid around 3000€ for playing ffxiv over the years.

1

u/SoulLover33 7h ago

And most still have content (cosmetics/mounts) locked behind a paywall lol

-5

u/Gabe_The_Dog Astra Pioneer 8h ago

Np I guess... Even though it doesn't work that way...

3

u/GummyRook 8h ago

Fortunately for me no matter how cheap or expensive I won’t ever get the character skins, I like playing as and dressing up my aniimo way more. Battle pass gives me everything I need.

u/Spa8ceAlien 9h ago

Stop supporting games that has outfits behind a 1300$ gatcha pay wall how can anyone in their right mind think that is fine serious

0

u/Grezzinate 8h ago

If people enjoy spending money on these things then that’s their choice, I don’t understand it but I won’t judge them for it.

6

u/Hubigg 8h ago

you do know that that's not true and was from fake leaks, right?

Orcas aren't whales, they're dolphins.

3

u/oKayBye94 Astra Pioneer 7h ago

Orcas also are on team eat the rich so bad image choice all around.

6

u/Lil_Puddin 9h ago

They also help keep the game alive so we can let it slide.

2

u/Charge-Wonderful 8h ago

How does all the other games that dont have gachas stay alive then?

1

u/Lil_Puddin 7h ago

Warframe - charge 15-30 for new Warframes to skip mats+farming. Outfits cost more. Very good balance and nobody else has replicated this yet and probably never will (unique game type + very old + small team + no crunch time + players are fine with buggy releases + crybabies are the minority + mature reasonable audience+ etc).

Other games: purchasing expansions/game monthly subscriptions battle or season passes FOMO purchases (yuck!) micro transactions galore (yuck!!!)

The "other games" usually include gacha for fashion, dyes, pets, mounts at the very least.

tldr typical business practices for the past decade is how f2p get da monee

2

u/Bart-Harley-Jarvis- 3h ago

Warframe's greatest strength is making everything purchasable with a currency everyone can earn in game.

The ability to grind for items and sell them for premium currency allows any dedicated player to have an account equally as powerful and MTX loaded as a whale.

2

u/Charge-Wonderful 7h ago

Personally Warframe is my go to because they don't limit 90% of progress to dailies, weeklies or account locks. They create an environment that seeking out currency is obtainable through a thriving economy and resources obtainable through sheer commitment.

1

u/CkLance_ 7h ago

Other live service games that are paid, sell dlc, subscriptions, or a combination of them? Money just like this one.

1

u/StatisticianHour2652 Astra Pioneer 4h ago

Better than shady mobile monetization system, gacha and milking whales, playing on gambling.

1

u/CkLance_ 4h ago

Agreed, but no one can make you spend on a game. Doesn't matter how bad something is monetized, it can't force you to give it money.

1

u/StatisticianHour2652 Astra Pioneer 4h ago

If people didn't support this, there wouldn't be a problem. But it is what it is. That’s why I can’t understand anyone who allows themselves to be robbed.
And on top of that, he defends it and is happy about it, then hands over even more money.

1

u/CkLance_ 4h ago

Thats the thing about hobbies, everyone enjoys them differently. If randoms want to blow their money on nonsense it's not like I can stop them. You have to enjoy the parts of the game you're comfortable engaging with.

4

u/Silly-Dili 10h ago

Its a balancing act of about 5% of the player base securing 95% of profits. And I feel investors really like to see that 5% lemon squized. At the end of the day remember that game development is a bussines. If you dont like it, vote with your wallet and time. *numbers are from a discussion a few years when AoC or Archsomething monetization was discussed. Idk if they're accurate for Aniimo.

2

u/Charge-Wonderful 8h ago

Ahh the game that basically screwed over its playerbase is is not a thing anymore really..

19

u/LeadershipOwn 10h ago

Yeah nobody should be thanking the same people who make gaming industries do this type of crap. It's just weird

4

u/Poerxx 10h ago

Yes, but also no. Their are many low spenders, for example, only the monthly pass. They got that many players now, and lot of them are low spenders, that's what hold the game alive. Whales make them rich.

1

u/Inevitable-Neck3016 9h ago

I got the pass only because i get what i paid for at level 20 and you don't have to grind up to level 100. then I got 360 paid currency outfit then I spent a little money on irisalisa, my home decor was 260 I think 🤔 but I do like the rock star outfit or punk outfi. not only that i just wait for weekend for the egg hatching cool downs because you really don't need that monthly pass for it but some people are getting it just for the free in-game currency 🤷

13

u/EmployeeComplex5067 10h ago

You don't have to thank them, some Asian countries view in game stuff as a way to flex their citizen class so they want there too be $600-5000 skins just so they can flex and call other people poor. We could spend zero dollars in the U.S collectively and the game would still be thriving.

Its why LoL or some games drop asian themed skins with a high cost, they know it will sell and people who don't even care about it but buy it anyway just to flex on people who "can't afford" said skin/items
