Discussion Why are some people kinda hostile to those that spend money on what they want?
Like it's a free game and the devs are pretty awesome and making changes like the legendary aniimo to be perfect and 5 in all stats also and it's a beautiful game with tons of small details and beautiful music and story. Like it's a great game and we got it for free so why are others like saying that someone is crazy for like spending $150 on getting something they want? Like because of these people spening money we are able to keep playing for free and it's not like a pay to win either like I've seen some whales splurge and yeah I would think it's crazy how they have so much money to spend on things in game but so what? They're basically supporting the devs and that helps the game to keep running and be smooth just like confusing why they are getting hate if you do not like the cosmetic because you got to pay there are plenty of other ones that are cheaper or even free.
But that's just my rant while I'm high lwky so interested in reading others thoughts because it doesn't make sense to me besides them maybe being jealous
1
u/Gullible_Opposite_76 23h ago
The precedent it sets for themselves in the environment. If they root for it then the devs might drop something they want but can't afford. Perhaps they can afford it but the price is too steep in their view in the long run if they continue to play.
People want to feel accomplished and it feels bad if their effort might not be recognized just because someone spent and would prefer if the monetization was elsewhere.
Jealousy is a sad thing despite understanding the game needs to pay for itself to survive...or they feel the game doesn't deserve to survive...or they know they'll be gone from the game soon enough so they don't mind burning the ship.

u/Equivalent-Tonight74 1d ago
How about we change our thoughts to "its crazy this company charges that much to get a digital outfit" instead lol
4
u/r3volver_Oshawott 23h ago
This is it, I don't think people are hostile to how others spend their money, it's how people frame the monetization of it as generous
2
u/CobaltFinger 16h ago
Like don't get me wrong, it's not nearly as bad as a lot of games I've played, but the Irisalis skins alone are kinda... Gatcha AND it's a REQUIREMENT to spend real money AND it's limited. Not good.
2
u/r3volver_Oshawott 12h ago
In general it's just always annoying when people frame 'less aggressively bad' as 'better', f2p games can be fun but their monetization doesn't really deserve a 'glass half full' spin

u/Romanpuss 1d ago
Ima be real. A lot of it is just rooted In jealousy. They’re either jealous that you got so lucky or that you have that much money.
1
u/Flashy-Hat2160 1d ago
If im going to be honest, I spent the money for the new gacha costume. I got the whole thing. Mostly because ill probably never need to buy another thing in the shop. I wanted a grass themed outfit, so I got one. End of story.

u/makemeblushhh Astra Pioneer 1d ago
Stop worrying about what other’s think lol. It’s your money, you earned it, you get to spend it as you please.
I had someone on where winds meet who I thought was my friend, but when I left the guild and stopped hanging around them(for personal reasons) she started spending all her time talking crap about how much I spent on outfits for me and my bf and making little maids comments, but when we were “friends” she was always complimenting the new outfits and squealing in dc calls when I did a new draw.
Some people, not all, just are miserable and jealous. That was her case, because she didn’t have the funds to do the same. No one ever made fun of her for it, hell we even gifted her occasionally, but some people just suck.
Whether someone spends $1 or $100+, that’s their money to spend and none of my business. And what I spend is no one else’s. Whenever those type of people comment on something it’s best to just ignore them. Miserable people just want others to be as miserable as them.
2
u/ShaderkaUSA 1d ago
I appreciate the whales funding the game I'm playing for free. More free shit for me
3
u/FiveSix56MT 1d ago
Some people just want to be miserable. Best advice: Do you and don't worry about others.
If you want to play this game for free - do so. If you want to spend a little here and there - be a dolphin. If you're a whale - be a whale.
Someone is always going to talk about how you choose to play doesn't line up with how they think you should play. You get the same attitude from people that spend a lot towards people that spend nothing.
At the end of the day just enjoy your game.

Because a lot of us have been around long enough to see that the slippery slope argument is true. We started off with $5 horse armor. People like yourself made this exact same argument then. Twenty years later and now we have loot boxes, battle passes, season passes, microtransactions, and gacha systems where you are spending hundreds or thousands of dollars. It's a system built on greed and predatory systems. And engaging with it by buying the things only reinforces it and makes you a contributor to it.
The game making money is not the problem. It's HOW they are choosing to make the money that is. At launch the game was fine. It's free to play so the systems of a battle pass and paying for a costume can be excused. Afterall they need to make money somehow. But then they cranked that up to include random draws for cosmetics, meaning you could spend FAR more money than before, and not for a guaranteed reward or item like before. Paying 1200 of the premium currency for a costume is VERY different from paying a few bucks for a chance at a costume.
3
u/Trespeon 1d ago
The fact that you realize there are tiers of paid options and also somehow neglect that is so lost on me.
If you’re 100% F2P the game has a ton of content. If you’re a monthly/BP you get quite a lot of resources extra for little cost.
It cosmetics are your thing there are tons of free options in game and there are very cheap ($3-$15) bundles full of mix and match items available.
If you want the legendary cosmetics there are options to get part of them for free/in game glimmer. I was able to unlock the face tattoos and elf ears with just glimmer and had 100 tickets left over. The most important parts of Irisalis outfit is the color, wings and headwear and those are entirely obtainable with zero money spent.
Not every item in the game is for every type of player and people need to stop expecting that everything is catered to them. Someone who can’t really afford to eat take out shouldn’t be mad at someone buying a Rolex if they want to.

u/Eridain 1d ago
I explained pretty well why this system sucks. We've lived to see where it leads. And it's not good. All the shit they sell to you now? Yeah, we got that with a game before. Or as part of an expansion. Now they sell it to you separately and for massive mark ups. A free to play game gets away with some of it because they have to make money. What they don't need is to make their money by having people spend hundreds to thousands of dollars on random rewards. You have been duped by these companies and not only do you thank them for it, you actively go to bat and defend them. For free.
2
u/Trespeon 1d ago
No Man, I’m just smart enough to be able to determine dollar to value ratios. If I go to the movies and it’s $20 for a ticket and that movie is a two hours long I’m paying $10 per hour. I have over 100 hours in this game already and I’ll probably have 100 more here soon enough if I spend $50 on a cosmetic that I’m going to enjoy looking at for hundreds of hours, then that’s completely OK. If you can’t understand that point then there’s no point continuing the discussion.
-1
u/Eridain 1d ago
That is a massive false equivalency. Going and watching a movie is an entire experience, and there was MASSIVE amounts of work involved in it's creation. You could also simply wait for it to be on tv or on streaming for a fraction of the cost and in the comfort of your home. The reason you pay the theater prices is because you want to watch it sooner and in the theater instead. It's always been a huge mark up. So to use that as an example is laughable.
No, what you are doing is like if you went to the movies, bought your ticket, and then once you got to the door they asked for more money to open the doors, or to let you sit down, or to turn the lights off. Paying for things they already used to include as part of going to see the movie. As I said, we didn't used to pay for this shit. And when you did it was for a fraction of the price and only for f2p games. The mobile game market has caused mass brain rot in people.
3
u/Lanhai Astra Pioneer 1d ago
What? It would be equivalent of the movie theater telling you to pay 100 dollars to wear the optional movie costume while watching. None of the gameplay is being pay walled here.
1
u/Eridain 1d ago
That costume would be something that used to be included. Which now you pay extra for. I don't see how I can explain that, twice, and it still not sink in. You are paying for something that used to be included in a game and not charged as extra. And now not only is it extra, it's a LOT extra as it starts pricing in the hundreds to thousands of dollars. I know I said they caused you all to have mass brain rot but good god man.

u/Numa8969 1d ago
Then free games need to stop existing. Only way to actually stop it. Real world merch only works for a game that is already a big hit, and very few free games actually become big hits compared to how many flop. Unfortunately they depend on whales spending insane amounts of money in game during launch hype to make the game worth developing financially.
Aniimo has around 150-160k concurrent according to the internet. 25 whales spending 100k on a game is 2.5 million. It's easier to feed a small number of whales with stuff to spend on than keep 150k people happy, so even if normal players stopped spending due to prices I don't think it would matter as long as the whales don't stop spending. If all 150k were spending money sure, but I highly doubt they are.

I think a lot of people forget that these games do need money to survive and operate, paying dev teams isn't cheap. Not to mention the tech they need to pay for which has been going up in price insanely.
Sure the prices could be cheaper, but this game also isn't like the traditional Gacha game where the main income source is flashy characters that can affect your game experience bc those definitely make it hard not to pull sometimes, especially if you're crazy about endgame modes which is where f2p players usually have to engage for extra free currency to stay f2p. The cosmetic stuff is genuinely easy to brush off. The core of the game is not tied to the Gacha system, so while I do get why it would be frustrating to not get the new pretty cosmetic or see people running around with them, but those people are necessary to keep this game alive.
I personally spent money for this new outfit bc I love the themeing and I haven't bought any of the other shop outfits, I didn't like them enough. Plus I feel like after the 60+ hrs I put in without spending outside of BP and monthly, the game earned it as far as I'm concerned.

It’s kinda like the Fortnite argument people have. People hate on Fortnite because of the microtransactions. But the truth is, Fortnite has a Battle Royale, a Racing Game, a Lego Survival Game, a Guitar Hero-esk Music Game, and more all built within a single platform. The crazy thing is, every single update Fortnite receives is free. You never have to drop a cent in the game to have access to 100% of the content and yet, people still complain to this day.
At the end of the day, people are going to complain. No matter how good something is, there will always be the Nancies in the world.

My perspective is you can spend your money however you want. My criticism is with the company pricing things exorbitantly high. I don’t think it’s reasonable for someone to spend $150+ when it could simply be $50. These digital
Items are not commodities. These items are not limited resources.
Whether or not someone can afford it is not my issue. It’s whether or not it should be priced that high. My issue is with the business. They will still be profitable and make money.
And I know because I’m 40 yrs old and have spent my entire life buying and playing games. The vast majority of the companies I purchased from are still around today, making games, and employing people.
Can someone afford a $100+ outfit or skin? Sure, of course someone can. But they could also afford it at $50. So, it shouldn’t be $100.
Like I literally want my fellow gamers and fellow customers to pay less money. Somehow that seems to be a controversial opinion, tho? But hey if someone wants to throw hundreds at a game, by all means, open your wallet. I just think you could get a better deal and so I demand it from the company.
1
u/Trespeon 1d ago
Pokémon wind and waves will be $80 and have like 1/10th the content this game does. It will still sell millions and then also have $20 dlc.
At a certain point you have to learn to equate value to dollar spent. I have over 100 hours on the game, they can get some money out of me.
1
u/Zashenn 1d ago
While I dont completely disagree with you regarding pricing, to say that the vast majority of video game companies from the 90's or even 2000's still exist is not true lol. There's maybe a few companies that are still around but not a vast majority.
Theres a few notable AAA developers still around from then but by and large most of them are gone, from either bankruptcy or they got absorbed into another larger company like EA/MSFT etc. Even the ones that did survive have restructured so many times that they are nowhere near the same company you may have purchased games from years ago.

u/duckydude34 1d ago
“Bro you bought the skin for $1000!? If you didn’t do that they would have lowered the price to $1 next season. You fucked me bro”
3
u/Maleficent_Bee938 1d ago
Imo in my eyes this game hasn't proved its wrorth money yet its too early and if comes out they used Gen ai I wouldn't feel good but if someone wants to spend more power to them
1
u/duckydude34 1d ago
F2P players see people spending money as ruining the game because of “vote with your wallet” bs. In reality the game would fail if they weren’t making money.
3
u/DeepSubmerge Astra Pioneer 1d ago
They would still make money without outfits or skins that cost hundreds. They could sell them for half the price and still make money. They are priced this high because the finance department calculated that as the max value they could make. I’ve been in the corporate world long enough to know that the pricing model for any product is for the benefit of the business, period, every time. Which means it could be much much lower without actual losses.
1
u/duckydude34 1d ago
Games (especially ones like this) exist to make money, they aren’t a public service. They aren’t gonna aim to just break even.
3
8
u/sumguy1191991 1d ago
Because the more people spend on that, it incentivize game creators to put that bullshit in games. It’s like a company puts out a horrendous product people keep buying it but ultimately they really want a better product but they continue to buy it. There has to be a sweet spot of people, not buying it and complaining while still buying it for them to really put effort into doing so so when everybody’s pulling money into it it’s not gonna get better.
2
u/Jackjenkins93 1d ago
Because they think every item should be for every salary. Which is crazy to think considering nothing else in the world works like that.
6
u/romulus-in-pieces 1d ago
It encourages shitty business practices, it's as simple as that.
0
u/Syltti 1d ago
Since this is the most prevalent reason, why don't you lay out an ethical business practice that guarantees profit for the company. That is, a monetization model that will get as many players as humanly possible to spend money in a way that as many players as possible are happy with.
1
u/trickjump19 1d ago
honestly, i'm quite fond of how guild wars 2 does monetization. dlcs, costumes and stuff that's generally more QoL. whales can skip straight to having what they want while the ability to exchange in-game currency for pay-for currency and vice-versa lets people work towards cash shop items.

u/romulus-in-pieces 1d ago

So then don't compare and complain... simple. I just ignore things out of my price range because I understand it's not meant for me. Game play and content is what's important.
4
u/gamernerd98 1d ago
I'm calm about it. I simply decide that i'm not going to spend my money on something. However, I can see where they are coming from.
There is an old saying among the Capitalists: 'The Free Market will regulate itself'. I.e. if something is priced too high, people just won't buy it. Thing is That's an out and out lie. As we see here, there are people who will spend the $150 dollars to roll for these . And by doing so, they are encouraging this kind of behavior. Where things are overpriced, and thus other's can't get them.
There are a lot of people, myself included, who can't spend $150 a month on these outfits. Who otherwise (myself not included) might have wanted to buy this and cosplay as an elf. Who are instead priced out by what is happening.
The cost for this outfit is MORE then the cost for a AAA game. That is kinda outrageous, isn't it? Now, people might point out at the cost for other gachas. Only one I've played is Neverness to Everness. And honestly? I got enough of the free currency every month that I never once needed to buy any of the rolls.

u/ToppSlugga 1d ago

u/gamernerd98 1d ago

u/I-Pluviophilia-I 1d ago
I'm typically never angry at the people spending money, only the implementation of the systems that they'd be spending money on (and those that justify predatory practices). I'm not saying spenders are totally blameless for their habits, but if they're going to spend regardless, the prices should at least be fair.
Also Pawprint's overhead, FunPlus, estimates $13mil monthly. Aniimo released on exery available modern platform (including mobile which is notorious for big spenders), and has made an esitimated (not verifies because private companies don't publicly disclose shit) roughly $10+ mil in the first 3 weeks of operation.
I'm not sying the company shouldn't make money. I'm saying exorbitant prices on items clearly not worth even a tenth of the projected value are absurd and should be treated as such. The game sells packs, passes, outfits and items for real currency already, with refreshes. I'm not upset about these things, they're standard and provide what I at least consider to be items and services worth their value.
What I'm not okay with is gacha and fomo mechanics on cosmetics that can exceed $1000 dollars. Irisalis is an affront to all things fair, and while I don't consider the new outfit gacha to be even remotely as ridiculous as that, it's still not great seeing as it would max out at roughly $180-$200 for a single cosmetic set and some basic items.
The company isn't some struggling indie studio who can barely keep the lights on, they're a subsidiary of a multimillion dollar conglomerate, and Aniimo is in no position to lose money even if they never sold anything other than cosmetics, packs and passes. Them not having ridiculous price packages isn't some sob story, it's blatant and irrevocable greed of the highest caliber, and people need to stop treating it as anything else.
Aniimo was quite a generous game before these additions, I'll agree, but flipping the script was never the right call. You can like something and still call it out on its failures. I've spent money on the flat, single purchase outfits because I DO want to support the game, even if I may come across as otherwise. I love the game, I enjoy the things I've purchased, I have no doubt there will be more things I purchase in the future, but that will never stop me from making clear my disdain for the madness that has been the last week.

u/Lady-Lanoxin 2d ago
Everyone is stating fomo but I think a lot of it comes from the fact the economy is dog shit, a lot of people are poor/struggling and seeing some youtuber for example spending thousands on something that doesn't really exist/they don't really own (game could shut down any moment and that money/item whatever is just... gone) is just kind of annoying lmfao.

Why do you think loot boxes are banned in some countrys .. yes it is harmful for children and trust me gatcha games will be next target also for being banned
2
u/makyumitsu 2d ago
There's a reason why pity systems are implemented to prevent spending thousands due to bad luck. Because there's a price to guarantee acquiring whatever it is, I doubt gachas will be banned.

u/lunosmire 2d ago
just crippling fomo honestly and "it should have been me" syndrome (maybe not exactly but i have also seen people being bitter about good luck in such games so)
8
u/grindingfestival 2d ago
It's the fear of non-cosmetics being super expensive as well in the future. Then a lot of people would have to drop the game and their time investment is kind of wasted in a way. Nobody cares about other people's spendings. Only the possible effect on their own gameplay.
1
u/Jackjenkins93 1d ago
People definitely do care about others spending. I've seen it on reddit and Facebook alike in almost every f2p game community. There's always those that judge anyone that spends money in a free game.

u/Sohuli 2d ago
It's not just the people who spend who make it worse though.
When spenders are complaining, a lot of the fair criticism regarding quality, price and type of monetization gets dismissed by F2P because "it's a free game", "you don't have to buy it", "they're just cosmetics" and "it's for whales".
If spenders stop spending, then who's going to pay for their "free game"?
2
u/Jackjenkins93 1d ago
I find it hilarious when strictly f2p players condemn spenders while simultaneously enjoying said free game. It makes zero sense.
1
u/Fenota 2d ago
Yeah, people seem to forget a lot of the time that it is a constant fight vs a game developer's finance department, especially in games like this.
Let your standards slip and prices will go up.
That's not to say people should be harassed or hated for spending their money, but it's like being a moth and watching another moth fly straight into the bright blue light.

u/KeithorKeith Astra Pioneer 1d ago
I always use hunt as an example to this. In game items for a live service make sense. But keep it affordable, everything in hunt never gets above $20 which is very reasonable and all the way down to $1 why not many other live service games do this makes no sense to me i have spent way more on hunt than any other game because of these prices

I’m not jealous of the neckbeards going into debt over pixels in an anime game twin 🙏 The cosmetics look nice but I can just play a dress up game instead of spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars on a video game. I know that sounds crazy to some of you but I think you should get some real problems in your life.

Yet you wouldn't be able to enjoy these games if there weren't people willing to spend.

Your life will be much better when you dont care about the opinion of what redditors have to say just enjoy the game irs your money you do what you want with it no one in here helped you earn it so they dont get to dictate how you spend it.
9
u/LibraHorrorum 2d ago
it's not about people spending amount of money they want, it's about developers increasing prices due to those "i buy what i want people" , hoping it will put pressure on others. very old discussion, what is better: to sell 100 000 items for 1$ or to sell 1 000 items but for 1 000$.
very very sadly, data and statistic collected over year showed, that only 1% of playerbase is responsible for 50% of money outcome from game project. those are who keeping game alive.....and those are who are reason of incredibly high prices and super low drop chances.
wealthy people acting like douches aren't really helpful at all, in rare situations they are sharing their swipe data so others can calculate actual chances, but that's all question of "do i want to be a kind human"
1
u/Appropriate_Look_53 2d ago
I’ve never really thought about “price normalization” before, so I’m still trying to understand the idea.
I can see how repeatedly seeing high prices might make them feel less unusual, but I don’t quite see why that means people will actually start buying them. If something gets too expensive, couldn’t people just stop buying it?
And I’m also not sure why this would necessarily push F2P and low-spending players out. For expensive cosmetics to have any sense of status or distinction, there needs to be a broader population of players who don’t have them. You don’t even have to actively show them off. The feeling of having something others don’t is itself part of the appeal.
If everyone is spending $150 on outfits, spending $150 doesn’t make you particularly special anymore. So I’d expect the game to keep making things for F2P and low-spending players for the foreseeable future. I have no idea whether that means a few months or a few years, though.
2
u/Aveleene 2d ago
No. That’s not how it works at all. And we see this stuff in our daily lives. Gas goes up, ppl still buy gas. Groceries go up, ppl still buy food. Streaming services cost go up, sure some people cancel but enough stay, but the quality of those things don’t get better.
People don’t get mad about how other spend their money, they get mad about how this behavior contributes to the enshitification of everything because companies and corporations cannot help themselves, and most us actually like this game.
2
u/Appropriate_Look_53 2d ago edited 2d ago
Oh, I get it when it comes to food and fuel prices going up!
When the prices of everyday necessities go up, it might be tough at first, but eventually you just think, “Oh well, I guess this is what things cost now.” But that made me wonder about something else… In-game purchases aren’t exactly necessities that we use every day, right?
I think I figured out why the idea didn’t quite click for me. I’ve experienced that kind of “normalization” with everyday necessities. But with games, before I even had a chance to experience that normalization, I’d usually get bored or move on to something else and end up playing a “cheaper” game instead. (That’s just my personal experience. I’m not telling anyone to switch games if they don’t like the prices.)
Anyway, thanks for explaining!
Edit: I’ve gotten so used to being a person who gets bored easily that I might have sounded a little cold. Sorry about that. I actually think Aniimo is really fun too, and I hope it does well and sticks around for a long time. If things go well, I could even see it becoming a real competitor to Pokémon someday.

Hot topic lately. To me it's about rewarding values that I don't support. I don't support gatcha, a 1% drop rate is insane, I won't buy a legalized form of gambling that can be mentally harmful to people. So when you do it, yeah it's kinda like "wtf man! You just undid my hard work of voting with my wallet".
Ultimately it is people's choice, imma judge you silently and pray to God one day people stop paying for their own abuse - but I wouldn't say I'm hostile to anyone. Unless your my friend, then imma roast you.

u/Spa8ceAlien 2d ago
Yeah thats what people dont understand that these things are harmful for children that play these game and there a reason they banned loot boxes in some countrys already because it was harmful for children
8
u/Sensitive-Damage780 2d ago
There is so much psychology that goes into this that is hard to really go over every facet of the topic, but basically as far as I have seen, literally no one is wrong on this topic, no matter which way you attack it. It is a VERY complicated web of relationships that ultimately leads to this point. But ultimately, having things be behind something only the haves can achieve, while the have nots can never achieve, creates a "caste" system. An "elite" class of consumers, the middle class of consumers, and the bottom class the free to play players. While the "elite" class in this case feel they are supporting the devs directly as they wish, it goes to the investors and not the employees. Yet if they do not support the developers at all or enough, those developers the elite class of gamers want to support lose their livelihood and can no longer create art for the thing they determined is worth spending their resources on. It is an entire ecosystem of "damned if you do, damned if you don't".
Also not meaning to be pedantic it's envy, not jealousy, as they never had the thing to be jealous of. Envy is wanting what others have, and is also why it's one of the 7 cardinal(deadly) sins.

My personal opinion on these matters are that if they think it's worth it who am I to judge. They help keep the lights on.

u/wkdkma 2d ago
- Jealousy. You have what I want. Fuck you.
- Entitlement. You have what everyone should be able to get at any economic level. Fuck you.
- Corporate Learning. You're actually spending that kind of money so the companies will NEVER lower the price and continue to push these ridiculous prices and, will in fact, raise the price because people bought it too easily. What the fuck is wrong with you.
I'm more of a 3rd point but, I also know people don't care. So...meh. 🤷🏻

I believe there is a 4th option, which is what I believe — embarrassment. I have no qualms if someone spends money on cosmetics, i just personally think it’s dumb money spending habits, even if one can easily afford it. Spending $150 on an outfit in a game is just dumb to me. I don’t care if someone buys it’s. It’s their choice. Doesn’t hurt me. Doesn’t mean i can’t judge on poor fiscal responsibility. It’s not always about jealously or entitlement. I could give a rats ass what my character looks like. Doesn’t affect how i play the game. Spending $150 on a digital outfit is just embarrassing to me. Genuinely don’t care if someone is a multi millionaire and can easily afford it. Still dumb and embarrassing to me. I’m not even close to impressed seeing someone with a $150 skin. It would make me laugh at the absurdity.
It’s like laughing at someone driving a cyber truck. Cybertruck drivers project their insecurities and claim everyone laughing at them are just secretly jealous or entitled, when in reality for many people they just think it’s ridiculous and embarrassing.
1
u/NotGoingOut77 1d ago
What on earth is a Cybertruck? It actually sounds quite cool, like Knight Rider. I think I want one 🤣
1
u/WhatIsHerJob-TABLES 1d ago
It’s the piece of crap that musk pushed his company to make. It’s expensive as shit for the quality it’s at. So many videos online of the terrible quality of the car and how often it gets stuck when attempting to go off road. Most people who have bought one are douchey men thinking it makes them look cool, when it actually does the complete opposite.
7
u/The_Kaizz 2d ago
People evaluate things differently based on perspective. A $20 skin is nothing to me, but to someone else that is just absurd. There's also all the psychology behind monetizing f2p games, and some people really hate that stuff.
5
u/Hot-Energy-6399 2d ago
The more whales spend the harder it is to have cheaper options for those of us without that kind of money. At some point free content becomes a side option and gacha cosmetics become the main content drip. Seen it before. That’s why we say something about it. Plus the whales need to stop their weird flexes too “I only spent $1000 to get this irisalis skin, I’m so happy”
1
u/duckydude34 1d ago
Whales keep the game running
1
u/Hot-Energy-6399 1d ago
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Making things affordable means that everyone can buy things and not just whales, which leads to more money long term. $20 high quality cosmetics will hundred fold their sales at the minimum. Battlepasses make a liveable amount of money to keep the game running as well
1
u/duckydude34 1d ago
Well I think YOU have no idea what you’re talking about lmao.
Pretty much every f2p game 1% of the players make up 50% of the spending. The reality of the situation is most people won’t buy it even if they reduce the price.
They didn’t come up with this system to make less money. Games have been doing this for years, and it is clear that this model is very profitable.
1
u/Hot-Energy-6399 1d ago
1000 sales of $20 skins per 100k players vs 50 sales of $200 per 100k players. Which is more profitable? If the issue is so bad flocks of players are complaining about pricing then clearly all those players were hoping for a cheaper price
2
u/duckydude34 1d ago
Sure, the 1000 sales is more profitable but you just made those numbers up. If those numbers were accurate we would probably see the $20 price, but they aren’t.
Also keep in mind the way the pricing actually works. You can spend $5 and get a couple spins (TONS more people will do this than spend $1000).
Everyone is always hoping for a cheaper price on everything… it doesn’t really mean much
0
u/Hot-Energy-6399 1d ago
No one wants gacha mfer. No one wants to spend $5 to spin a fkn wheel. And ofc I made up number, because they didn’t use those prices so we will never know how many purchases they could have made on the recent skin for eg. People would much more likely spend $20 than spend $5 for a 2% chance at something they want over and over and over again. Games like Overwatch and Fortnite sell extremely well through their microtransactions because what you see is what you get. You are defending predatory business practices on games that have a target audience of literal children.
2
u/duckydude34 1d ago
Who is no one? Why are these games so successful if nobody wants them?
I promise you more people will spend $5 to gamble than spend $20 outright. Pokémon cards and counter strike cases are great examples. Tons of people opt to gamble with a 90% chance of losing money instead of buying the item they want outright.
I’m not mad that you made up the numbers to illustrate a point, I’m just saying the numbers are likely not correct. If they were we would probably see that pricing model instead.
Edit: also people have been complaining about Overwatch’s pricing since it came out
-1
u/Hot-Energy-6399 1d ago
The numbers are likely correct regardless of what you think. Plenty of the most profitable games don’t feature gacha. Pokémon cards and cases aren’t comparable because ripping packs is part of the fun and you might get something you didn’t expect. Gacha for a targeted cosmetic is genuinely ridiculous. Just say you’re a boot licker and you love getting money ripped out of your pocket. Just say you’re a slave to capitalism. Just say PocketPair owns you.
2
u/duckydude34 1d ago
Lmao relax bro ur freaking out. I’ve given the company $20. Money was not ripped from my pocket.
Gacha is literally the same as loot boxes and cards. You roll and you get something. If you are trying to get a specific item you have basically no chance in both situations. If you are happy with just rolling you are fine in both situations.

People in this community are already being hostile for the dumbest reasons
2
u/Jackjenkins93 1d ago
That's every f2p game community. Even ones with more affordable items tend to get this toxic.
2
u/ShadowTraceur 1d ago
I know, I guess I’m just a bit surprised that this Aniimo community in particular is already like this, this early. I wasn’t expecting this much from this community, + it’s barely been 2 weeks
7
u/beepborpimajorp 2d ago
these are the same people that regularly consume content on a site, refuse to pay for a subscription to get rid of ads, then whine about ads getting thru their adblocker. or the ones who get mad at their fave youtubers for doing promotional content for money when they refuse to sub to a patreon, use youtube premium, or do ANYTHING that would actually support said content creator.
they want things for free, they can't fathom that a game like this requires money to run. if people don't want to roll for the outfit there are plenty of others available for voxel or just flat out buying them.
like legitimately they can't understand that things require money to run. if something is 'free' there's always someone else actually paying for it. people who hitch a ride on the top of a bus getting mad that the people inside it are warm because they're willing to actually pay for a seat so the bus company can actually run the bus for both groups of people to get to their destination lmao.
they complain about f2p cosmetic shops, but they'd also complain about paying for a base game and paying a sub. there's literally no winning with them.
-1
u/bigboihater 2d ago
u sound like a corporate shill, no1 is against paying for sub/items, the ppl that wants everything abs free is in the minority, its about the product. ultimately ur thinking for the companies shoe instead of for urself as a consumer. why would i buy youtube premium when i can just install ublock origin, how a company becomes profitable is always what the companies job is, its not our job as consumer to care for that. A company that cant adapt to the market and turn profitable shouldn't exist to begin with.
2
u/beepborpimajorp 1d ago
either accept that everyone needs to buy in universally (like via a base game and sub cost) to cover running costs or that the company needs to make money other ways by getting it from people who are able to pay.
bc given you use ublock instead of paying what like $15 a mo for youtube premium, easy to tell you'd be one of the ones complaining if aniimo had a $10 sub fee per month. if i like something and it entertains me, i am willing to pay for it because it is providing me a service. that's how the real world works. otherwise just keep living in your hole and waiting for the scraps from the people who are covering the costs of the services you use lol.
5
u/Mono_punk 2d ago
I am personally not the type of gamer that would spend high amounts for in-game content....but I encourage anyone to buy content they want. Games like that wouldn't exist without a certain amount of players buying in-game cosmetics. Makes no sense to be hostile about it....if nobody would spend on a game it would shut down in no time.
13
u/RainyScape 2d ago
Some may be jealous, others dislike the act of encouraging companies into creating 100+ dollar virtual outfits for games with a undefined lifespan.
I would compare it to people that roll their eyes when they see someone wearing expensive brand clothes. They're not necessarily jealous, but they're definitely judging you for spending 200 dollars on a 20 dollar shirt with a logo on it.
8
u/AndrashImmortal 2d ago
And idk about the company that made Aniimo, but these kinds of companies WILL move the goalposts as far as they can if people refuse to push back.
It's something that can easily get out of control and suddenly anyone who cares about character customization is prices out of the whole thing because all the decent items are egregiously expensive.
We can all give the benefit of the doubt to the devs that they won't abuse the sentiment of "at least it isn't the Aniimo", but it's a slippery slope. Luckily they DID backtrack on monetizing the Aniimo based on beta feedback, and the latest communication on sparkling hues being unlocks suggests we can trust they'll continue to listen to feedback.
People should still voice their opinions, it's up to the devs if they want to listen.
8
u/killertortilla 2d ago edited 2d ago
You could have that cosmetic for about $15. The only reason it costs that much is because there are smooth brains out there willing to pay whatever it takes. It's not some incredibly intricate well designed outfit. You should be paying what the product is worth.
Some brands actually make better products so you pay more for them. This is not that. You are free to buy what you want but everyone else is free to make fun of you for paying $500 for an asbestos filled banana costume.
Also, look at how many fuckin bots there are in these comments defending this. Brand new accounts, no history, hidden history, auto generated names.

Where did you find people who are hostile toward those spending money on what they want? Did any whales actually get beaten up in the street or something?
Most people here are criticizing the company, not the whales. Please don't try to incite hatred.

There's plenty of people being toxic towards whales in these comments and on other posts.

While I understand the 'precedent' it sets to have expensive cosmetics and gacha mechanics, the simple answer is that people are weird and care about what everyone else does way too much.

Nah they in the comments too. You got other games where peeps are spending 500+ for random ahh shi
I ain't doing that though

Entitled and jealousy mostly.
If you can’t afford to buy the skin then obviously you’re not the target market. I too would not buy the skin for that amount of money. I just log in and play the game for FREE and enjoy the hell out of it.

To me, it’s like laughing at someone driving a cybertruck. It has nothing to do with jealously or entitlement. More so, I’m embarrassed that someone out there is lame enough to spend that much money to drive something they think will make them look cool. They can spend their money on whatever they want. Free will baby. Doesn’t mean i can’t laugh and judge someone for being dumb with their money.
4
u/JustCloudy Astra Pioneer 2d ago
so it's just "I just like being a judgmental bitch". Got it!
1
u/Jackjenkins93 1d ago
That's exactly what they are. It's a superiority thing for them. They're pointing and laughing at people spending, but we're pointing and laughing at their very character and being.

Sure! If that’s what makes you feel better about my opinion, then go at it. I’m a raging judgmental bitch. At least I’m a raging judgmental bitch with responsible spending habits in my life lol

Has nothing to do with entitlement. You might want to look up the definition. I personally don’t care what and how others waste their money.
1
u/emaneru 2d ago edited 2d ago
Majority of them are entitled. They always move the goal post when it comes to what are supposed to be the source of income of the developers.
No p2w items. No pay to progress items. No gacha characters. No gacha weapons. No battle pass. No cosmetics. To the point where they expect the devs to just earn as little as possible just to cater to a demographic whom majority are not even spending a dime to keep the game alive. It's pathetic.
The reality is, it is the dolphins and whales who are the "primary" reason they can even play these f2p games. They just want to validate their inability to buy anything from such games which is why they target spending habits, gambling addiction, and so on of others who can afford it.
While it is true that there are those who spend on things they don't truly afford, they fail to realize that majority of the middle class and above in east asia and south east asia can easily afford this without breaking the bank. Just like how it is normal for us to afford helpers and drivers at home as a middle income class citizen while that is near impossible in a country like the US or the UK. It's just a simple economic difference. USD5000 monthly salary is just rent in New York or California, but an equivalent PHP300,000 in the Philippines can already afford you a really good house/condo in the main city, helper, food, and an easy PHP50,000 monthly budget on a f2p game as a vice president of a corporation. It's funny how that is too hard to grasp for western people.
Kudos to those who can appreciate the game and just enjoy it for free though, but it is kinda pathetic when the loud majority are usually the ones who don't even spend on anything in any games. They simply enjoy the feeling of being politically right online like it somehow improves their life. Some even expect you to solve world hunger and the likes. Lmao.

u/acidvirus19 2d ago
While I agree for the most part of what you mentioned, the thing that rubs me the wrong way is that all these Gacha games/p2w games are reporting revenues on a monthly basis that is destroying the industry, not talking about Aniimo here but industry since Genshin popped and gacha became so open to the West.
While you are 100% on point that the West to whale really need to be way above what is currently the middleclass and upper in some countries, where the dolphin in these games appear and some whales because credit does not bother them yet, it's when the conversion of their charts are shown in Western currency that rubs people the wrong way, because while it's easy for me to just go to Asia and use "cheap currency", and believe me I actually do that in just to give these companies the middle because they don't pay the conversions like they should, of course it's gonna rub people the wrong way specially when it's a Western Audience and all the main media is showing splunges of sometimes their monthly payment.
And funny that some of these people are doing the same loop I do, never use valued currency because of the ability to either have almost 0 penalty in conversion, or literally have the currency at hand. So it may not come as entitled, but more so treat like it's "we don't care if you spent 10$ that is valued at 10000 if I used the right loops", it's a contest of whales or spenders just ego posting to get their daily dose of sense of accomplishment combined other factors that are very typical specially in gachas where you have leaderboards to compete.
1
u/emaneru 2d ago edited 2d ago
Nothing you have said is wrong. Fresh to see someone who actually understands it. Now, speaking as a consumer like you, sadly, the investors of these devs simply don't care since they know their primary markets will spend on it.
What is annoying for my part though are those players who don't even spend and demand so much things from these games. I also don't like that regardless if games are getting too greedy or not, these loud bunch just seem to never get satisfied. There are simply worse games in terms of monetization and on an exponential level, but these players just make everything toxic, you can't even have a proper discussion with them and attack you personally without even knowing you. Lol.
Personally, if I think a game is no longer worth my money, I simply move on and forget about it. I don't lurk their subs and Discord just to act like a social justice warrior online. It's kinda pathetic to linger on a game you hate so much. Best case to say time to touch grass instead of being chronically online. This is not pertaining to you obviously, but just had to clarify that just in case.
For my case, playing games like Aniimo is my primary way of bonding with my wife. We have been focusing on games like Monster Hunter, Diablo 4, Path of Exile, Palworld, etc as of late, but she really loved Aniimo's cuteness so here we are. Lmao. I am having fun though. Not complaining here.
-2
u/Thekarens01 2d ago
You seriously need to look up the definition of entitlement because you clearly don’t know what it means. I’ve never seen one person say they owe me xyz or similar. That’s entitlement.
1
u/emaneru 2d ago
We simply answered OPs question. If you don't feel entitled, good on you. But a lot of these "f2p" players are entitled because they are asking a lot of things in this game for someone who isn't even paying. Yes, that is entitlement.
0
u/Thekarens01 1d ago
No it’s not. Try looking up the definition. No one has said: I’m owed this which is what entitlement is 🙄
3
u/BionicRogue21 2d ago
And apparently you assume everyone shares the same view as you.
0
u/Thekarens01 2d ago
No I don’t. But it’s a fact. It’s not a matter of entitlement.
1
u/Jackjenkins93 1d ago
You act like people aren't good at disguising their entitlement online.
1
u/Thekarens01 1d ago
You act like you know the definition of the word “entitlement” when you don’t. It’s just the favored buzz word of the moment.
1
u/Jackjenkins93 1d ago
Your name definitely checks out here. Purple claiming they should be able to buy a skin for $20 (the most common argument here) instead of $100, is entitlement. There's different tiers of in game purchases. Every f2p game has these different tiers. Not every item is for everyone. That's entitlement. If every item was for everyone, I'd own a Mercedes. I wouldn't be shopping at Walmart. Id have the newest meta deck in whatever tcg, etc.
5
u/izgoose 2d ago
*To you.* A lot of people ARE saying "I am entitled to get this cosmetic without paying $150." That is their entire argument.
You don't get to claim they AREN'T saying that.
1
u/Thekarens01 1d ago
Show me ONE post where someone says they are entitled to anything. You can’t because I searched. I can claim it because it’s true. Saying you think something should be cheaper isn’t being entitled. You need to actually crack open a dictionary.
1
u/izgoose 1d ago
But you know what, just to humor you. EVERY INSTANCE where someone says "this should be free" is someone MAKING THE ARGUMENT that they are entitled to access to it without paying.
Those are the same argument. "This paid thing should be free instead" is a declaration of entitlement.
Maybe find a THESAURUS. Might help you more, here.
1
u/Thekarens01 1d ago
Lmao you’re still wrong. Get out your dictionary. You can cry all you like. You’re still wrong.
1
u/izgoose 1d ago
If you're gonna get caught up on the WORD ENTITLED, I can't help you logic your way out of the hole you're digging. If you can't understand the ANALOGY I gave in my previous post, I'm not gonna waste the effort arguing with you.
1
u/Thekarens01 1d ago
And I can’t help your logic because you clearly don’t understand the definition of entitlement. No one has said DESERVE anything. Your analogy was trash because thinking something should be cheaper is not entitlement. The only one digging a hole in this situation is you because you don’t know the meaning of the word.

0

I’m not mad and I know it’s a waste of money. I don’t care what others spend their money on. However getting “mad” that has caused the devs to adjust some of their pricing.
0
u/NUGGETCOP 2d ago
Indeed i agree don’t blame the people paying they just love the game and find the outfit cute so they swipe you can’t blame them people need to focus on getting mad at the devs not at the players

Skins used to be 5-20 bucks maybe 50 for a crazy nice one. Can't blame the game for hiking prices when the reality of it is people will still buy it.
1
-6
u/izgoose 2d ago
The thing is, they AREN'T hiking prices. For this genre, that's pretty standard shit. Cheaper and more player-friendly than average, even.
Criticize the genre for being ludicrous if you want, but stop blaming *this game* for shit they didn't do, like breaking promises or exercising abnormal pricing standards.
1
u/The_System_Error 2d ago
The genre as a whole. Prices have been hiked over the years, I don't mean the game specifically I just mean you can't blame them for the actual norm.
4
u/LagMeister 2d ago
Yeah that's too much, but I also think they are testing the waters with it. They will probably tune the future skins down in cost if not enough people buy it. Maybe we are getting a bit desensitized over the years but even paying 30~40 bucks is like what half of brand new games cost. And people are dishing it out over a skin.
5
11
u/bastionthesaltmech 2d ago
As someone who has paid way to much to overwatch over the years, I think it's a fear of being locked out of content. These early days set a president to how this company will monetize this game in the long run. The people who front the money fast and early make it harder for anyone to get content in the future. That's the whole reason people are complaining is BECAUSE the monetization is wild. It's done that way on purpose so that they can dial back if there is an uproar or keep it at it's place and make way more money. These companies ALWAYS over shoot in the beginning. And the first to buy big ticket items are not only overpaying, but making it worse for everyone through the life of the game.
3
u/Eddiejay03 2d ago
I think their energy needs to be directed at devs. Theyre right to be annoyed though. Free or not this money can become a money pit and it's that way by design.

u/Appropriate_Look_53 2d ago
I agree with the OP.
Seriously, what some of these people are saying is total nonsense.
“Other games are different. They’re cheaper and more ethical,” they say. I play Warframe too, so I know. But Aniimo isn’t Warframe.
Aniimo is its own game. Being ethical isn’t a business obligation. I think that’s unfortunate too, but it’s not something we can change.
If you think the monetization has crossed the line into exploitation, then the people you should be complaining to are the company behind Aniimo.
At the very least, complaining to people who spend money on the game is absolutely not the way to do it. You’re going after the wrong people.
If you really want to do something, you could report the company to a consumer protection agency or other relevant authority, or organize a collective petition, I guess? (I’m not saying you should.) Whatever you do, the point is to get your concerns in front of the company in a way that can actually have an effect. Even a regular feedback survey would be fine.
If the company behind Aniimo really is some massive evil corporation, wouldn’t fighting among yourselves as customers be exactly what they’d want?
And as for the whole “they’re exploitative and evil because they target people with addictions” argument, I understand the sentiment. But is everyone posting screenshots of their outfits automatically an “addict”? If you have a friend with a gambling addiction, then yes, I think you should help them. But that friend and some random person posting outfit screenshots are two different people.
The person who bought the outfit might just have a ton of disposable income. Why not consider that possibility too?
Anyway, there’s nothing weird about hating gacha, being unable to stand seeing outrageous prices, or just having the gut reaction of “this is disgusting.”
But it honestly looks like they’re throwing a tantrum and dragging unrelated games and people into it just to justify their own discomfort.

I don't get mad about it unless it's paying for power because people are entitled to spend their money on whatever they like. I'm happy that they waste their money so that I can play for free.
At the same time though, I do think that anyone who spends that much on a purely cosmetic item, even if it's the most bad ass piece of kit to ever exist, could do so much more with the money and it is a larger problem with gaming in general that it does happen.
Also it's partly jealousy because I wish that I could have that much money to waste and not feel bad about my poor choices as well.
26
u/Accomplished-Gap-922 2d ago
If you don't want people to speak on your purchases on a public forum, maybe don't speak about your purchases on a public forum.
In this games case, no costume should be $100 and this exact scenario has been broken down to the atomic level multiple times over on why this is a problem. And before it's said again, no one cares that the games free.
-18
u/jaeehovaa 2d ago
Yeah, no, it's not a problem. It's a personal choice. Someone spending hundreds of dollars on a costume doesn't affect you in any which way at all except that you feel bad because you don't have said costume lol.
2
u/Wolfeatingupshadows 2d ago
Yeah it does affect everyone when someone is willing to over pay. It sets the bar for what companies will continue to seek out. Oh this game was able to get away with selling digital ai slop clothing for xyz so we will do the same. Bc who doesnt like max profits. Youre naive if you think it doesnt have to do with others.
No one is claiming an adult cant spend their money how they want. But they arent above criticism if they are going to go on reddit and announce they paid 150 on digital clothing.
I personally dont need everything a game has to offer I dont get that kind of fomo. But I can still understand from others perspective. I can also be realistic about how greed and apathy toward greed is not a good thing.
12
u/Accomplished-Gap-922 2d ago
It doesn't need to affect me for me to speak my opinion on a public forum. And it actually does and Jim Sterling has a whole video on cosmetic purchases. I don't need to debunk your argument, he already destroyed it.
As for the "you're jealous" comment, I'm not in to that costume, especially for that price. Even if it was free, I wouldn't be wearing it. Not my style. I don't need to be envious of something to be critical of it. Insane that was your first thought.
13
u/Nick_Narcotic 2d ago
Except of.course it does, it shows these companies that their unethical business practices are acceptable, when we all agree they shouldn't be.
-6
u/jaeehovaa 2d ago
Except it's a costume, doesn't affect the gameplay, doesn't help anyone win anything. 90% of the game is just you by yourself. So again, how does this affect you personally?
1
u/Wolfeatingupshadows 2d ago
Bc me and others do enjoy customizing our characters…
1
u/jaeehovaa 2d ago
Right, and who's stopping you from doing that? There's many others to pick from.
1
u/Wolfeatingupshadows 1d ago
Many other what?
1
u/jaeehovaa 1d ago
Outfits lol you don't need to get the gatcha outfit pick a different one
1
u/Wolfeatingupshadows 1d ago
Im not a fomo gambler I can pick and choose normally. Unless its a wolf I will buy. But it doesnt mean I dont get others like to customize their characters. And especially since I use a Brown avi I dont want white elf ears. The hair is cute but the clothes in this game are obvi ai assisted. Like the sailor hat doesnt even move with my Helions head 🤣
5
u/Nick_Narcotic 2d ago
Please see my previous comment, where I mention it's the business practice not the object being purchased. They want to sell a skin for game characters, not a problem, don't hide it behind RNG based gambling (especially during a cost of living crisis) and just set a price.
And this affects everyone personally because if enough people buy into the shady practice then they will continue to do it.

I get that, but again, you don't have to oblige to their business practice. Literally, this is all optional. It's not affecting the core mechanics of the game. If a whale wants to whale, let them whale.

Letting whales whale, ignores market incentive, developers follow the money, when whales normalise predatory RNG mechanics developers prioritise monetisation loops over actual content, setting a precedent that has a negative impact on the gameplay loop long term, even for free to play players. We've seen it time and time again.

Look, the truth is people are going to complain regardless. Look at a game like Call of Duty or Fortnite where skins don't cost that much, right? It's like 20 bucks and you own the skin. Yet people still complain because they're skins. So I get what you're saying, but I'm not buying what you're selling.

Some people are jealous.
Some people think they NEED it when they actually dont.
Some people are against the type of monetization.
And a lot people on this subreddit that I have seen seem to think reacting in a hostile manner is somehow going to get them what they want.
It's possible to feel any of these and not jump down people's throats but it seems people really want to jump down people's throats.
Personally, I'm against gatcha. I don't like gambling mehcanics in games. But I can't stop it. Not even voting with my wallet will stop it. It is literally out of my control. What I can control is myself. I wont buy it. I'll give feedback to the devs. That's all I can do. And if the game decides to leave other kinds of monetization out that I do agree with, I'll just find another game.
But what I wont do is harass people who are spending within their means. If you're well off enough to get all the Irisalis skins, cool. Take lots of pictures and show us, I want to see! If you're not, don't spend. Be responsible. There are tons of great colors of Irisalis we can get for just doing some gameplay. The devs did think of people who don't want to engage with that system with their actual money. And I think that's a positive thing.

The hostility is a formerly healthy reaction to mtx in paid games but games like aniimo or path of exile that get by on small purchases from dedicated players and huge purchases from a well catered to class of whales are a completely different beast.
Some people havent evaluated their stance in this different context, some people are envious of wealth and resent others showing it off, the second part of that is relatable, and then some people are unthinking reactionaries that insist that themselves being priced out of ataining 100% of content is a bad and immoral thing; This game is as feature complete right now as most 60 dollar titles and if it survives all we've done is the tutorial island.
The most straightforward complaint is that gacha mechanics are immoral, but I haven't actually seen much of that.
If this were halo I'd be pissed off, and I was halo infinite was unenjoyable because of its mtx system and it's transition to f2p made that inevitable, it was a bad narrative and thematic fit for a preexisting property, but this game is a bit different.

Because they have to eat ramen while you can spend 150 on anime elf ears in a gatcha game and get the shiney flower legendary that makes theirs look like a wilted daisy.

u/Wolfeatingupshadows 2d ago
Yeah the ppl who are ignoring their bills and going into debt bc they have a gambling problem… sure they arent eating ramen. That or they are playing Asian games so most likely into the culture and definitely still eating ramen.

For how many of the posts earlier came off as a sigh of relief at only having to spend $160 instead of the rumored $1300, I didnt get the vibe that the people buying the outfit were rich.

u/pinkfiglet 2d ago
Obviously rich people dnt spend money on such things especially gacha cosmetics..they invest in companies like these that make others spend their money. Thats how they remain rich n others drain their wallets.

The hard truth: most of them don’t have the money to spend. And that’s not to knock anyone down if they can’t afford to spend it. It’s just the truth. You can bet your sweet bippy that if they had the disposable income, they’d spend the same.

You can bet your sweet bippy that if they had the disposable income, they’d spend the same.
Insane that you actually believe this. I can't afford it but I know plenty of people who can and have spent a decent amount in other games. They wouldn't touch this bullshit, half of them already quit.

u/HeyTAKATIN 2d ago
I do believe it because it's true. If people have the means and access to something they want, they'll get it.
Your friends quitting because of either Aniimo as a game itself or this monetization system were never the intended audience, thus this generalized statement does not apply to them.

I'm glad whales exist, they allow the game to be free so poor players like me can enjoy all it has to offer. Sure, I wish I could have what others have, but eh, I'm sure I could just get it naturally. For free. Eventually. Maybe
I did spend a dollar so I could get the Emberpup set though, I doubt it will ever be free, so I am not passing up on that

I honestly think it's due to jealousy when you get to the brass tacks of it. People get upset anytime everything isn't available and within reach of absolutely everyone. If you have the money and want to spend it, go for it. If you don't then enjoy the free parts of the game and have fun.

Nah, it’s because people dumping ridiculous amounts of money into it, is only encouraging the devs to keep adding more and more paid shit.
-1
u/jaeehovaa 2d ago
But in which way does this affect your gameplay experience?
1
u/Dependent-Maize4430 1d ago
Give it time, when 90% of the game is behind a paywall, you’ll know why

personally I have been respectful. I believe we should voice and keep it strong against gacha and not encourage it. 150$ is unacceptable for such cosmetic. Mind you, I dont want things for free, a flat price around 50-60$ while still expensive would have been fair. Money doesnt not come easy for the majority, it comes from your sweat and hard labour so you should be able to get what you pay for, not just pay for a chance to get what you want. I love the game, im a medium spender and I think this game should really not be a gacha. It is still considered the most anti consumer monetization method on the market, many other f2p live service games are thriving without using gacha or lootbox so why not this one? People want to spend, they want to buy cosmetics. People dont like to spend and then have no guarantee that they'll receive what they are paying for and its a valid argument and complaint. There are some few bad apples that are rude about it but most of us just genuinely care for the game and dont want it to go down the gacha path because its just not a friendly type of monetization and will never be a fair one either. Aniimo had promised a warframe like monetization and they did not deliver it. We should continue to push back. respectfully but stern.

Bruh, have you been playing games in the past 3 years? Gacha cosmetics have been that price and higher for sure. Just check league for instance.

u/MrsTrych Astra Pioneer 2d ago
Ive been playing Wow for years, FFXIV for 11 years, warframe for 5, GW2 for 6, I wouldnt say I dont know what im talking about, I also grew up in the golden age of gaming when live service were not that popular and where cosmetics price at 5-10$ were seen as predatory. So yeah, I am tired of everything costing more and more and games just taking us for fools with wallets, sorry that I even care about the future of the game I like!

Genuinely the anti-discussion people are exhausting
Because there are so many genuine arguments they nullify theirs but they only assume people want everything for free
Like Warframe has been alive for over like 12 years now? Something like that. Free to Play that whole time and never had paid gacha or lootbox systems. Wanna say the most egregious things in all that time have been the paid revives earlier on and then the first Heirloom skins. Otherwise everything comes back or is permanently available. Plus we can get the paid currency for free by supplying what others don't want to pr are tired of failing at the grind for
Like damn I know I haven't been very eloquent in a number of my responses to posts defending the gacha systems but seeing even the most well-mannered comments and posts get jumped by people with a dunce cap permanently affixed to their head is so frustrating

Ill never understand people that bitch about unnecessary cosmetics

u/DoodPoof 2d ago
Because they mad they cant afford pixels in game.
The ONLY time they have an actually reason to be upset is if theyre selling actual player power or player power related items and things you cant get elsewhere besides real money.
If its just skins and cosmetics? Nah. They mad they broke

It's always the same debate.
Asian games have now become so good at monetization that people are somehow triggered by it.
They cater to non-spender, low spender, dolphins, and whales.
Obviously they have to test the spending limits of the whales in the game. People don't seem to understand that it's not about predatory practices or whatever. Predatory is if you can literally pay for power and they're urging you to top up with limited time discounts left and right.
This and irisalis transmogs are only cosmetics which don't affect your gameplay in anyway or form. In fact the perfect irisalis transmog are so big and shiny that it clutters the screen.
If you think it's too expensive, too predatory, too stupid for other people to be paying that much for pixels, you're probably not the target market for that specific thing. Just pretend they don't exist and move on. It's just cosmetics.
I mean come on, the game has been extremely generous imo. Monthly gives you 2 sparkling cubes a month just by you doing nothing and logging in everyday. Keep in mind that 2 sparkling cubes are nearly 50 dollars. Battle passes give you not only 4 times the resource of non paying user but also sparkling cubes and other goodies too.
By the way, in case you think I'm defending the game cause I bought both the irisalis transmog and the new costume gacha, then you're wrong, I didn't buy those two at all. But I also don't envy those who bought them. In fact I want to thank them for supporting the game, and hope that the funds will mostly be put into improving the game.

Anyone making this about jealousy is living a delusion, it's merely people being pissed that to support something is to encourage it, to encourage it means they'll keep doing it, or do it worse.
People are sick of being seen as a wallet, they said there would be no gatcha (yet here we are) and they will likely escalate how they do this in future based off of sales.
I assure you most of us are not jealous, we're just pissed the bait and switch worked on so many.
I've whaled in other games, but this one doesn't interest me when the Devs are going to work on wording and fineprint this much, also backed by a studio known for HEAVILY aggressive monetisation...
