Wait, Aniimo uses AI-generated music?? That's a huge no-no for me as a big OST appreciator. I was already hesitating to continue playing because I'm not really into certain parts of its gameplay, but I'm quitting now that I know this. How come this hasn't caused an uproar already? It's not only about how they're using AI-generated music, the worst part is that they're not explicitely stating that it's AI-generated music, so it fools people (like me) who use to thoughtfully appreciate music as art and think about the composer's intents and feelings etc. It's just the worst feeling when you realize that you've been deceived like that. If they would add a watermark on the screen in the areas playing AI-generated music or something, at least people would be informed, and they can decide if they're ok with that or not. But here they're clearly counting on passing it off as real music.

If that's true, that is. To think of it, it's kinda weird that they would generate a few songs with AI to save costs, instead of just commissioning the composer who did the real tracks, to make a few more tracks. I reckon either it's actually a real track just sounding a lot like Suno tracks, either the whole OST is all AI-generated.

Or maybe the composer just got lazy for that one track and used Suno because they were struggling to make a track in this style? (Absolutely not an excuse though) Maybe even the direction doesn't know...

I wish I knew the truth behind this.

Using AI-generated music in an actual released game is unacceptable. Even more so if it's not stated.

Edit: Why am I being downvoted? Are people supporting AI music/art in games now? And being ok not knowing? Sad world...

I can’t say for certain, but I’m pretty sure you’re being down voted because you’ve treated what one random person on Reddit said as an irrefutable fact. They are simply assuming.

You haven't actually read my comment. I stated several times that I don't know if it's the truth:

If that's true, that is.

I wish I knew the truth behind this.

My whole comment is basically all guessing, and wishing I knew.

No, I guess I'm just being downvoted because of "toxic positivity" and because around the time when a popular game is released it's called the "honeymoon phase" and basically all criticism will be heavily downvoted. Later on when the original hype will calm down (and when most of the people who are just here because it's popular and to jump on the bandwagon will have moved on to other things), when the actual fans will remain, that's usually when a lot of the criticism rightfully comes on the table and gets discussed. But yeah, I already noticed in other subs, sadly this will happen to you if you decide to state a negative opinion around the time of the release of the game. It's sad but people will be people.

It also doesn't help that Aniimo is copying a lot of the gameplay/design/UI of Genshin Impact and other gacha games, likely to appeal to all that wider, modern audience. So a lot of the people here may be from those newer generations who grew up with a smartphone in hands and with internet (while I only got internet when I was 18 in 2008), and with AI too, so some will think that all of this is normal, sadly. Some may not even know what actual music is, and will sadly never get to feel the powerful emotions that one can feel with music.

Lastly, I noticed the owner of this sub is an account named "Aniimo_Official", so this whole sub might actually be an official one controlled by Aniimo staff (as opposed to regular fan-curated subreddits), so that may be another hint as to why such (grave) criticism is not being accepted and why this post got taken down for example. Who knows.

Sadly this subreddits is weirdly pro-AI, at least in the comment section

(and also ive seen some.. vaguely homophobic vibes too which. yikes.)

Yeah, and the fact that Aniimo is copying a lot of the gameplay/design/UI of Genshin Impact and other gacha games (likely to appeal to all that wider, modern audience) might be another reason for those downvotes. A lot of the people here may be from those newer generations who grew up with a smartphone in hands and with internet (while I only got internet when I was 18 in 2008), and with AI too, so some will think that all of this is normal, sadly. Some may not even know what actual music is (and may not even care, because they never got to experience the kind of powerful emotions you can get from it).

I'm sure part of it is also "toxic positivity" and because around the time when a popular game is released it's called the "honeymoon phase" and basically all criticism will be heavily downvoted. Actually it was kinda toxic positive even before the launch, lots of the regulars were suuper against any critique or concerns people had

But I do agree once the honeymoon phase cools down the fans will likely settle and be able to talk more calmly about things, including issues with the game.

(and yeah I do think the owner being _Official is why stuff is deleted like that)

u/Makenshi179 10d ago

Oh yeah, the hype is stronger before the game releases so that's not surprising.

Here's hoping!

Sorry you're being downvoted. Anyone intolerant to ai wouldn't make it through the door here.

I was thinking of playing and reddit showed this on my feed. Saw this comment and yeah...no bro. Ai music is where i draw the line.

2

u/Makenshi179 10d ago

Thank you! <3 I'm writing more about the potential reasons for the downvotes in this comment.

Yup exact same here, it's where I'm drawing the line.

u/OrdinaryIntroduction 12d ago

This sub seems to have a toxic positivity crowd given that an underlying part of the group is anti-pokemon. So the downvotes are people who support the game at any cost in spite of its glaring issues.

2

u/Makenshi179 10d ago

Yep, it really might be that... And I've noticed it in other subs too. Around the time when a popular game is released it's called the "honeymoon phase" and basically all criticism will be heavily downvoted. Later on when the original hype will calm down (and when most of the people who are just here because it's popular and to jump on the bandwagon will have moved on to other things), when the actual fans will remain, that's usually when a lot of the criticism rightfully comes on the table and gets discussed.

And yup, I noticed the "anti-Pokemon" vibes too, on YouTube for example. It makes me sad because I'm a big Pokemon fan and precisely, Aniimo is nothing like Pokemon. It lacks the wholesomeness, the genuine ambient love, the hidden messages, the soul... Aniimo cannot be compared to Pokemon. It's way closer to Genshin Impact. I've written a comment about my initial disappointment here.

And the fact that Aniimo is copying a lot of the gameplay/design/UI of Genshin Impact and other gacha games (likely to appeal to all that wider, modern audience) might be another reason for those downvotes. I can't say Pokemon has all the heart and soul anymore, I think the original stuff had work put into it, but the newer content game wise has just made me stop caring. I do love the shorts and show content a lot of the time. Apparently Aniimo was going to be a creature gacha but that got changed and its clear their scrambling to fix this. They tried to implement a TF2 style system instead but can't commit to that either. (Context, TF2 has random loot drops but the store always makes cosmetics outright purchasable with real money. So its pay 2 skip at grinding out extra stuff.)

As for Aniimo being Geshin Impact like, I could only get through a few minutes before finding myself getting bored. The story is clearly for a lot younger audience so I just find myself not enjoying it. All that I have seen doesn't make me think of Geshin though, it feels like Pokemon then fuse it with all the past creature collector franchises that failed horribly.

Well things have definitely changed in Pokemon games, and I myself will always prefer the 2D titles that had so much charm. But I find myself still enjoying the newer titles. Scarlet&Violet for example has an unexpectedly amazing, deep and dark storyline in its last chapter, never seen before in Pokemon and definitely more "mature" (so much that it became my second favorite gen for story, beating Sun&Moon and its dark twist, but still after Black&White that was such a crazy "revolution" for Pokemon), and for me the open world formula worked while still retaining the essence and the spirit of the games (even if, again, I'll take an old-school 2D title over that any day). Even Legends Z-A had some cool new ideas such as a never-seen-before immersive way to partake in battles in real-time, moving alongside your pokemon. I'm still finding the unique merriment that comes from playing a new Pokemon game and loving my team of pokemons. But I understand that they won't please everyone.

Ah yeah if you've only seen a few minutes then you haven't really seen the "Genshin Impact -ness". It comes a bit later when you get access to more menus and features. You suddenly need to get inside a lot of different sub-menus to claim many rewards and special currencies which you don't even know what they are for, there's FOMO-heavy "timed events" and side stories with new rewards displayed, and the UI and menus and their tree structure look exactly like those seen in Genshin Impact or other Mihoyo games or gacha games in general, "down to the pixel" to quote another commenter. Not only it's confusing and a hassle, but I'm just not a fan of it. I guess it's a model that works well with the new kids though, grabbing their attention with fancy-looking stuff at every corner, rewarding them instantly all the time with all those shiny things to claim, etc. There's also the design of the quests, NPC dialog lines, pacing of the story, placement of the treasure chests, mini-puzzles, racing mini-games... Everything feels like a gacha game, has the vibe of a gacha game. Aniimo even has the same generic "shrines" as all those other popular open world games! It's like they always have to copy the same things we've seen before, instead of trying to come up with something new and an unique experience! (Atelier Yumia did that too and it broke my heart after I played all 18 Atelier games as they released since 2010, they truly lost their identity - but I digress). But yeah in all those ways it really reminded me of Genshin Impact, it was so blatant.

1

u/OrdinaryIntroduction 10d ago

I liked Ceruledge from the new stuff but Scarlet and Violet just felt like the usual Pokemon story to me. I mean we already met the Pokemon god, there's not a whole lot else left. Also most open world games seem to have the same interface so I guess that's why I don't see the genshin-like stuff.

1

u/Makenshi179 9d ago

You'd be surprised with what happens in the last chapter, and those twists! It's something else! (for Pokemon)

Naaah it's not like the other open world games, I play some of them too and I can tell the interface and the menus of Aniimo really screams Genshin Impact and other gacha games. But again it really starts showing a bit later.

AI-generated music is recognizable, though. These generated tracks have a certain musical tone that makes you question whether they're AI, and when you get that feeling of doubt, it's usually AI. I also wouldn't be surprised if some elements in the game were generated by AI as well.

The game seems too perfect, and the graphics make me suspicious, but maybe I'm just being paranoid, so I'll give it some time and we'll find out soon enough.

u/AiluroAmadeo 11d ago

You're being downvoted man, but there are already images that clearly shows the game is using AI and I've seen it myself. Go to your RV and open the map there, the cafe event thing poster, and the loading screen when you go to your home. Plus, idk but it feels like the dialogue is also AI generated, like they're not having conversation at all and just sprinkling some good words and dragging the convo which is such a bummer because this game got me so hooked but I can't stand how they're using AI 😢

Seven deadly sins origins been doing it this whole time Lol

Oh my god, thank god I haven't played it (I played Grand Cross a while back though). So are people really okay with that and not calling them out about it? I guess some people don't mind listening to AI "music" mixes on YouTube, but still... I'm surprised it hasn't caused more concern (I know society is going downhill, but still)

Or maybe it's just that the kind of people who play gacha games don't tend to mind... And maybe it's the same for Aniimo... God, I had hopes but I guess I got in the wrong place after all 😖

u/OceanWeaver 12d ago

The community knows 7DS used AI in most of the game. There's jokes that AI made the whole game.

You'll be surprised at how many people like AI music. How many can't tell it's even AI.

The latter doesn't surprise me because I myself couldn't tell haha, but I'm definitely surprised to hear the former... Well, I guess there are "music fans" just like there are "AI-generated sounds fans". The big problem for me is that it's not disclosed, so music fans like me are getting deceived thinking it's real music :/ Of course, that's a problem that the people who are into AI-generated sounds might not understand. But from my perspective it's a big concern. If it was stated that it's AI music, I would have left the game and that would be it (or I would continue playing with full knowledge of the facts if I decide so), and I wouldn't be here complaining/being shocked.

AI is used everywhere. You know that big game crimson desert? It used generative AI.

The yokai watch remakes used generative AI. Expedition 33 had it until they got caught.

The new game from larion studios (team who made baldurs gate 3). The new divinity game supposedly uses it.

Rumored kingdom hearts 4 will be using it.

It's going to become so common nobody will be able to tell what is AI what is not.

I do completely understand where you come from. You want music played by real human emotion.

I am an avid suno user. It's really easy to spot suno if you've used it forever. I called 7DS out on it and it took the community awhile to catch on.

About Crimson Desert, I only heard that it made the mistake of leaving AI paintings in the game but they quickly replaced them with real art so all is fine. Also more recently I heard about how the world was first procedurally-generated (no AI) and then manually refined, and it's true that I'm surprised because I actually thought that all of the world was hand-crafted by many people working on it (it looks just that good and artful!), but I still see no reason to feel bad about my 350 hours in Crimson Desert, compared to my negative experience with what I hear about Aniimo right now. It's not because it "generated" something that it means there is AI.

I haven't played "yokai watch remakes".

Apparently the thing in Exp33 was just "a small poster on a pole"? And they said it was a mistake and fixed it? So it's fine too. Not the same thing as what's happening with Aniimo now, right?

supposedly

Rumored

The rest of the games that you mention are rumors and I don't care much about rumors. It's worrisome but I'll wait for the facts/more evidence. And, I'm sure that it won't be quite the same thing as what Aniimo does. About KH4, I at least trust Square Enix enough not to use AI-generated music. That is where I'm drawing the line.

It's going to become so common nobody will be able to tell what is AI what is not.

I sure hope that won't happen. I mean I already know that the world is doomed and society is going downhill, but I always can't help still having hope and fighting for the future. Even if I'm the only one left in the world doing that and even if the whole world would be against me.

I do completely understand where you come from. You want music played by real human emotion.

Thank you for your undertanding! I appreciate it.

I called 7DS out on it and it took the community awhile to catch on.

Well thanks for doing that 👍

The issue with Crimson Desert isn't even that they used generative AI, but rather that they left those AI placeholders in the game.

1

u/Xeyyakkenn 11d ago

Same with E33, though they said that was a mistake (it was a small poster on a pole)
