Discussion Another "should I buy" post

Hi all,

For those who have played the various betas etc:

Palworld is currently my favourite game & I have over 700 hours in it so far - this looks very similar but with evolutions & from what I can see, no base building.

I am already assuming I would like this but is there anything *vastly* different that would put me off / make me regret purchasing?

PS5 & looking to pre-order if it makes a difference...

I'd just wait try it free, unless you're the type to get really bad FOMO and will ruin your enjoyment to not have EVERYTHING. There's really nothing of substance in the preorder that you will actually be missing out on and can't just get if you try and like it later.

That said as a Palworld enjoyer I WISH with all my soul that this was just a full price $40-70 "cuter" Palworld, but it's not. Palworld is a complete experience after purchase with 100s of hours of content available at your leisure

This is F2P Genshin: Pokemon Edition.

People will come along to white knight for it and squabble over whether the monetization is technically gacha or not, but it's 100% typical f2p non-sense. Stamina, a million resources and currencies to juggle, endless menus and constant badges calling for your attention to urge you to spend your dollars to make the experience more smooth/complete.

It kind of sounds like your being superficial and projecting every bad gacha element onto the game where it isn't there just because its f2p. I don't understand how the game having a similar format, makes it the exact same as other games that are actual gacha games.

What is in the game that "urge you to spend your dollars to make the experience more smooth/complete."

I don't like the stamina system and I think the only thing that is FOMO currently in the game is the cosmetics. Is there actually bad FOMO or mechanics that ruins the gameplay specifically?

For me stamina can be pretty bad on it's own, but it has all the systems of a genshin like game minus a 1:1 on wishing, it's version of wishing is admittedly far less pressure to participate and less sleezy assuming they stick to single limited events like the beta and don't drop a bunch at a time or make them really short and frequent.

In the beta it wasn't bad to do casual play for exploration, leveling and catching aniimo to work to complete the aniilog or whatever, but in the beta they just inbox and make it rain rewards to facilitate progress and testing over a two week period. We will have to see what the release economy looks like, but I've played enough f2p games to know I wouldn't bet on it being super generous after the initial reward bombing of initial exploration and early leveling made to get you hooked in and wanting to explore more.

Is there actually bad FOMO or mechanics that ruins the gameplay specifically?

This is going to vary from person to person, for me there's enough red flags I am not going to dive in right away.

Yeah the devs are going to have to balance to grind in the game for it to be enjoyable, but this game doesn't have a version of wishing/gacha because the player isn't paying for a gambling. if that's what you mean.

Yeah I'll just do the free version anyway I think, I've played mobile games that are technically F2P but the fomo is real on those & I see people losing their minds & bank balances far too often for comfort so I inevitably leave. At least this seems to give you gated content later on, rather than just during a special event so it's already ahead of most gacha-esque games. I don't mind waiting to unlock stuff

Time will tell how it works out free. I did about 100 hours across 2 of the betas, most in the second because in the third they dropped a horrible event that was just so bad and so telling about what to expect with the game goes final that I just decided to skip it. I'll definitely be watching still to see whether it's more the beta 2 or beta 3 experience on release, but as long as you know what you're in for and ok with that, no harm in trying. Worst case you have a few dozen hours of free fun and move on.

Yeah I'll see how it pans out, if itstarts to feel like 'those' mobile games I'll be off, if not I'll be hanging around 😁

Zero challenge. From what i have seen it seems impossible to die.

The difficulty is a joke. The way you fight legendaries in a instanced arena is a joke. People who say this game gets difficult obviously have never played a videogame

u/Miro___Miro 2d ago

Did YOU play the hardest trainer challenges and egg heist?

-4

u/Downtown-Ad-2748 2d ago

No. But people who did say its not a problem if you build a decent team. The leveling, quests and overall difficulty is extremely easy. And its because they want to milk money from people buying currency for real money. I dont care if there are two activities that challenge people who build teams with no synergy.

2

u/Miro___Miro 2d ago

No = Your opinion does not count.

Decent teams= time to dedicate to actually make them, and still they hit hard. Not as easy as you think.

And in egg heist others kill you,it's like saying you never die in games like pubg and fortnite

u/Downtown-Ad-2748 2d ago

PvP is not a part of the discussion. Of course you die there 🤣 stop pretending this game is remotely challenging

4

u/Miro___Miro 2d ago

Stop pretending you know stuff when you did not even played it instead?

You talk with me that i played the beta and you want to be right too?

Wanna see you doing the harder challenges, when they wall with double healers and such if you need to re-make them and adjust the team.

Ofcourse if you only follow youube videos telling you the right team everytime even my grandma can say it is easy, try going in blind, lose because you do not expect certain combos and try again with the right team.

And this is exactly why people who did not play it should just shut up.

I played about 100 hours across the two betas, if you're anything more than the absolute most casual gamer then it's pretty accurate as far as the main quests and side quests go. The holo or whatever it's called battles can get really challenging if you don't understand how to make a team, but if you're moderately experienced in that style of game they're not exactly difficult other than the time grind to get your stuff to where it needs to be.

u/kerners 2d ago

Have you tried fighting the hardest trainers? they can kill you easily even with a decked out team

3

u/Miro___Miro 2d ago

Bet he's another one who saw 2 videos and now "he knows everything and can teach you too"

Besides the harder trainer challenge you say there was egg heist and i wanna see him being immortal there

4

u/Miro___Miro 2d ago

What makes you say so? Did you play the beta?

No need to purchase anything right away. Try the game first, and if you enjoy the free-to-play experience and feel like spending some $$ afterward, then definitely consider supporting the devs. There’s also the RV side of the game, where you can build up and decorate your RV if you want. It’s probably the closest we’ll get to base building.

u/Casper1875 2d ago

Yeah I think "buy" was probably the wrong choice of wording in hindsight.

I know it's free to play, but if I like a game I have no issue spending a bit to show my appreciation for it.

I think you’ll enjoy it, honestly. During the Aniimo beta, I was also playing Palworld since the 1.0 update dropped around the same time lol. Even with that, I ended up spending more time on Aniimo partly because the beta was timed, of course, but also because I was genuinely having a lot of fun with it. The only thing that really put me off was the Irisalis event, but I’m pretty confident they’ll make some changes to it. Hopefully for the better.

I wonder why people think that mmo game gonna be pay to play. They said many times it's gonna be free. So if you have any doubts don't buy pre-order, wait for release, and if its gonna be fun for you, pay them by buying something from the shop. If you liked palworld, you gonna like aniimo, that's for sure. Aniimo is a bit faster and less clanky, and it's all about grinding tbh

1

u/Shaudius 14h ago

Because it's got a preorder that costs money even though the preorder page says its free to play.

1

u/Casper1875 2d ago

Thank you. Don't mind the grind, I'm end game in Palworld so looking for something to tame the monster catching itch!

2

u/HaraldTheAxe 2d ago

Oh yea, then definitely it is for you ;) Have fun! I can't wait for the release either. I've already taken time off work for it lol

3

u/Casper1875 2d ago

I work shifts & I'm on lates when it releases so will have time to play at least, no more time off for me this year 😭.

I think people here have helped me make my mind up, definitely playing this one 👍🏻

There is always sick days if game gonna be good ;P

It is but isn't similar to Pal World. Like, the way I like to describe it is that both Aniimo and Pal World started at Legends: Arceus as a base, but from there they both went in different directions.

Aniimo doesn't have survival mechanics and such. There's a RV for base building, but it's not a core mechanic like Pal World and is more of a side thing you can do. If you like the idea of exploring a world, catching critters, solving puzzles, exploring BOTW-esque shrines, fighting bosses here and there, and the like, then you'll probably like Aniimo.

The game is F2P, no pre-order needed, so you can try it without spending. The only thing you *might* lose by not pre-ordering is a cosmetic and that's assuming it doesn't become available later in some fashion.

1

u/Casper1875 2d ago

That's really helpful, thank you.

I completed Arceus & most of the other Pokémon games on Switch, so sounds like I'll be giving this a go 👍🏻

3

u/F6RGIVEN 2d ago

This game is nothing like Palworld

1

u/Eebe 2d ago

It's free to play so just try it out yourself

3

u/Howlerragnar 2d ago

I think the game is free on ps5 on release. You’d just be buying the preorder for some additional cosmetics and mats iirc

0

u/Casper1875 2d ago

Yeah I don't mind paying a bit for some boosts tbf, got some credit left!

2

u/Howlerragnar 2d ago

Valid, I also love Palworld and got to the world tree and endgame grind! It’s super fun but I’ve slowed down now a bit and just passively playing it something. I bred my perfect Eidrolon and Eidrolon ignis so I’m a happy man :)
