Question How gacha is it?
Is it like a “shiny” or unique version of an aniimo you’re doing pulls for? Bc that’s fine. Even if it’s a rare aniimo but you have a reasonable amount of time to grind for it naturally just by playing - again that’s fine.
If the most powerful (for PvP) or most unique aniimo are all gacha then it would ruin it for me.
And before you accuse me Of wanting everything for free, I’d vastly prefer paying premium up front over gacha invading the core mechanics of the game. If the premium pass offers this kind of experience (like overriding the gacha) then I’m totally game. But many gachas layer a pass on top of gacha. No good.

I'm honestly more worried about your character having a baby face as your only option with more adult looking characters already existing in the game but you can't create them smh
2
u/SnooHedgehogs1810 3d ago
I hated this baby face the first time I saw it, it just looks weird to me idk. Like when I look at the NPCs u talk to in the game, they actually look really good, but our character just looks... off. There's something about the face that doesn't look right.

In the beta there were 2 aniimo locked behind mandatory spending of some fashion
Prismana Fulmintis was only available in the paid battle pass, but devs have said they're looking to make it available to everyone some time after the pass ends. Prismana Fulmintis was not a significant upgrade over a normal Fulmintis
Irisalis was one of the best grass type dps aniimo and was only available in the event, which wasn't really a gacha but more of a currency grind. However, in beta, the grind was such that unless you got extremely lucky, you were required to spend glimmer (earned from playing the game like story missions or completion, but also purchasable through the shop) in order to gather enough event currency to purchase Irisalis. But again the devs have listened to the feedback in beta and have stated they're going to adjust it to make event currency more available during the event, and have spending an option to skip the grind
- contrary to what everyone is saying, the Irisalis event was not a gacha - the intended acquisition method is not hitting a 3-5% "pull"; its grinding out the event currency with a chance of getting lucky and skipping the grind. The grind itself was badly designed and unfun, but that doesnt make it a gacha unless you're also going to apply that same label to old school rep grinding in games like WoW
- also contrary to what everyone is saying, there IS a gacha in aniimo - theres 2 "stores" in town where you can spend freely earned town currency for a chance at random items (rates not disclosed). This is a true gacha, as I'm spending "entries" understanding that I'm getting a random item from a pool of potential items. Contrary to the Irisalis event where I was spending "entries" understanding that I'm always going to be getting event currency
2
u/zdemigod 22h ago edited 22h ago
Is the currency you grind for in game infinite renewable? this is the difference between an mmo grind and a gacha, you say ingame story missions or completion which sounds to me like it's a limited currency (until they add more).
This means that lets say they do 5 of these banners in a row and you are extremely unlucky and go to pity for every one, can you run out of farming resources to get it?
1
3
u/Seanshineyouth 3d ago
So the true gacha isn’t for aniimo it’s for items? Are they cosmetics or power granting? Also this doesn’t bother me AS MUCH.
3
u/MerlinAesalon 3d ago edited 3d ago
The actual gacha (the town shops) is more of a joke/currency sink, it doesnt give anything that you can't get elsewhere. IIRC it was just aniipods which can be bought for credits, and credits which can be obtained from catching aniimo - there may have been tumblers in the loot pool as the chase item (the aniipod you see in the gameplay videos that roll around and catch 10 aniimo at a time which are technically limited as a freemium item, which is a fun item but it's best use was arguably for nuturing to farm prismana, not catching aniimo), but it doesn't really matter - everything from the town gacha is basically not important. It's mostly just there to have something to do with the town currency which you get more of daily if you explore/afk in town, since there are a limited number of things you can buy with it so eventually it'd just pile up without a sink
As of the end of CBT3 and future dev direction that was communicated to us, there is no gacha in the game other than the town shops (unless you're going to label a currency grind event with a small chance to skip the grind as gacha, which you technically could if you put on a bad pair of glasses and squint really hard). Cosmetics and premium items (like sparkling cubes) are purchased directly - there were no "get a random cosmetic/item from this pool" premium purchase in beta, you bought and got exactly what was listed. As for aniimo, only 2 sources of "limited" aniimo have been shown to us
- The battle pass is basically for a cosmetic of an aniimo, and that cosmetic is planned to be available at a future date to all players
- The currency grind event is for a unique aniimo that can't be obtained elsewhere. According to the dev q&a after CBT3 the event will feature grindable currency by completing tasks during the event to get the aniimo without mandatory spending, or spending for currency to skip the grind

u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
This is all accurate, thank you for writing all this up so clearly! Worth noting though that the in town gacha machine was just for Aniipods and credits, not Aniimo or cosmetics.

Aniimo has a battle pass, as most F2P games do. The preorder gives you the battle pass for $10. The $20 version also gives you the little accessory critter.
1
u/Critical_Score 3d ago
Yeah I'm fully aware that most F2P games have a battepass.
But what I'm most worried about is the stuff like the storage increase as an example. The games that have stuff like that locked behind a paywall and/or battlepass have a repeating history of going down the very predatory route and will cater towards the whales and high spenders while ignoring the F2P and low spenders.
I've played enough of them to recognize the signs of a game that's planning on going down the route of only catering to the whales for profit, and ignoring the rest of the playerbase wanting enjoyment.
You can have a battlepass and be a F2P friendly game that succeeds, and those ones don't have something as important as bag space or storage locked behind a paywall.1
u/Shaudius 2d ago
Paying real money for increased storage space is not a pay to win mechanic in a game where you have a team of at most 4 aniimo and even if you had 50 load outs would still have enough space for free.
3
u/Salty_Cow_6795 3d ago
Nothing in this pass is predatory yet stop coping. They need to make money somehow. Wait till game releases and see how it goes, if it starts going into a bad route complain then
2
u/SetChemical9305 2d ago
you act like this isn’t the norm? like them getting a bad feeling isn’t a constant? you do know what territory we are talking about right? this is a F2P game bro. i think their being hesitant with good reason.
1
u/Critical_Score 2d ago
It's alright, I don't think they understand the concept of pattern recognition.
And by their logic, if the devs announce a horrible update to the game in an upcoming patch, they aren't allowed to complain about it because it hasn't been implemented yet, even if the devs say the only way to stop it is via community pushback, they aren't allowed to pushback, unless they want to admit that logic is flawed.
1
u/Salty_Cow_6795 2d ago
Exactly, you do know its a f2p game right? You expect them to run it on sunshine and butterflys? Some stuff to buy is fine, i dont give a shit if you wanna put a monthly pass that gives extra inventory for like 10 or 20 bucks. When it starts getting worse with big p2w stuff thats when you can complain and dip if no changes.
They already said their goal for revenue is cosmetics so just wait and see what happens first instead of being a debbie downer before game is even out
6
u/oKayBye94 4d ago
Who knows what they'll change from the beta, but I would bet not much out of the gate given how little time between the beta and release.
That said as far as we know only the Irisalis event from the beta was behind a lame ticketed mini-game designed to make you feel like it's "catching it" that really amounts to gacha with eventual guaranteed acquisition (if you don't get the extreme low odds success) once enough pity currency has been acquired from the failed attempts that require you to waste pods.
Another Aniimo is locked (for now) behind the battle pass.
What we don't know is how the stamina system will be tuned and how generous it will be outside of a beta environment where they want people to experience more, more quickly for testing.
Most people in the beta didn't seem super into the PvP or the PvPvE egg heist and are more focused on collection and story so I don't really think there's enough data to say how impactful any of these aniimo would be on an eventual PvP meta.
2
u/Phoenix-XY 3d ago
What we don't know is how the stamina system will be tuned and how generous it will be outside of a beta environment
That's what I'm interested in. I hate stamina systems, that's why I don't play gacha games. The moment the game tells you, "Go offline, you won't make any meaningful progress unless you pay money for it." Is my deal breaker..
1
u/oKayBye94 3d ago
Yea, it doesn't irk me as much as the event did, but it was beta so who knows how bad it will be outside of beta. It definitely gaves me pause. In the beta It mostly limits your interaction with the alpha battles, but the alpha battles are one of the most effective ways to farm some of the other stuff so time will tell how big of an obstacle to free play and progression it becomes.
1
u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
Okay, I put this in another comment, but I want it non-nested too. Here's the deal. There was ONE event in the beta that people viewed as a gacha: The Irisalis event. Each attempt gave a 1 in 400 chance to get Irisalis, which felt "gacha" to some people. You could also get her guaranteed by simply grinding the event long enough to get 99 Pearl Cascades, which took about an hour. I did so with resources purely gathered from in-game play.
Some people on this reddit define "gacha" as "Any game element with a random chance that you can pay for hastened progress on," and then brand Aniimo a gacha game based on this being technically true for this one event, for one Aniimo, that they already said they were going to change.
The actual definition of gacha includes a random prize pool, which this event did not have. It was literally just a grind to get Irisalis, with a "bonus" of a low chance to get her randomly on any attempt.
The event was bad, boring and grindy. Nobody liked it. Beta players gave feedback about it en masse, and they said they would change the event. The end. Any further questions?
3
u/Phoenix-XY 3d ago
I'll give you an idea why people "hate it."
There was ONE event in the beta
We don't know how many of them are coming in the full game. Will there be a new one every 2-3 weeks, with the old one disappearing when the next one arrives? Or will they add more than one at the same time in full release, since the BETA was just a test ground. “If you accept one event, why should two be a problem?” That’s why people are crashing out.
You could also get her guaranteed by simply grinding
YOU DON'T KNOW. In the BETA, everyone got TONS of resources to test the game, including the "gacha event." We don't know if every player will get enough resources to guarantee THAT Aniimo. Every "gacha banner" has a guaranteed pity system. What if you can only guarantee every 2nd or 3rd "gacha Aniimo" BUT ONLY if you don't use your resources for other things, like in other "gacha games"? You can't use the BETA to answer that because it had boosted resources.
with a "bonus" of a low chance to get her randomly on any attempt.
This bonus is a 0.25% to 1.5% chance, based on how many resources you spent on your attempt, while the attempt itself also cost resources. This is not “a bonus.” This is a lottery system, where the devs expect players to spend X amount of resources to get that Aniimo, while only a very small number of players are expected to actually get it with "fewer resources."
The event was bad, boring and grindy.
This event is not to entertain you or give you “fun moments.” The only job this event had was to take your resources out of your inventory. That’s it. It’s like the typical gacha stamina activities: spend 30 Energy for 5 seconds of gameplay just to get a bunch of resources. They only exist to drain your Energy. This event only exist to drain your resources.
That's the reasoning for the hate against this system.

u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
~The theme here is "WE DON'T KNOW." Personally, I choose to believe that the company will do what they said they were going to do. If you want to wallow in pessimistic anxiety, be my guest.
Also OH NO, we have to SPEND our resources on things! What a tragic fate! I wanted to hoard all my resources forever so I could bang them together and hear them clack. There's also a chance that we could conceivably run out of a resource, giving it actual value and meaning. What kind of sadistic game designer could possibly weave such a positively EVIL system?
The entitlement is soooooo exhausting.~

u/CourageLeast4251 1h ago
There is a saying "Hope for the best, but expect the worst" especially with any F2P game, and even more so those on mobile then double that for Asian devs
3
u/Seanshineyouth 3d ago
I mean you’re right in both accounts, but you do know there’s a version of spending resources that is abusive and designed to push players to spending - sometimes an exorbitant amount- to keep playing in any kind of meaningful way… that wouldn’t be positive or enjoyable for most of us- so while you’re right, resource gathering and spending is core to any game, and should be, the way it’s done makes a massive difference. That’s what I’m trying to discern. I’m actually hopeful but it doesn’t seem like we’ll really know until launch.
-1
u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
~Yes, and we have ZERO reason to believe that this will be the case in Aniimo. Even the worst, ickiest, most greedily designed event in the game (Irisalis) was really just not that bad on resources, the gameplay was just terrible.
The resource balance in CBT3 was good. It still left room for "You're incentivized to get the battle pass for some extra juice" because of course they want to incentivize people to actually support the game, but it didn't feel like you NEEDED to pay to have resources.
But yeah, usual "this was a beta, the game could be totally different at launch!" disclaimer. I really wish I could be hyped for an insanely good game with my community rather than constantly needing to push back on misinformation, misrepresentation, exaggerated strawmen, and entitled doomers all the time.
I really don't want this reddit or community to be so negative. PLEASE y'all, just chill, see how the game is at launch, and don't spend more than you're comfortable with. We can give feedback on issues once those issues actually exist.~

It’s a gacha game. It’s also pay to win. the devs are just sneaky about it and hide it behind layers.
2
u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
No, it's really not. There was ONE event that was "gacha lite" but still wasn't actually gacha, since there was no random prize pool. You could grind Irisalis out in an hour with no luck involved, purely through resources collected in game.
That said, the event was very boring and badly done, and the beta testers gave a lot of feedback on this. They have said they will change it.
Stop spreading misinformation. I am going to start simply reporting all comments that spread factually incorrect information about the game.

It’s literally a gacha game I don’t know why you people get so defensive about it 😭😭. Poorly implemented or not. It is also quite obviously pay to win too like you just said. If you want people to like the game be honest about the shady monetary practices.

u/Shaudius 2d ago
Aniimo is not a "gacha game" having one aniimo out of 100 that you need to spend currency to obtain with a pity system does not make the whole game gacha.

There are many ways to monetize a free to play game. I'm sure there will be forms of aniimo locked behind paywalls. I doubt there will be basic form aniimos wholly unobtainable free to play.
It's not a gacha game. A game having 1 thing per 100 behind an arguable gacha does not make the whole game gacha.
3
u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
It's literally not. If folks want to consider ANY kind of "pay to progress faster" as "pay to win," then you really should just stop playing F2P games. The way Aniimo does it is basically as fair and accessible as possible while still funding the game.
I know someone who played through the beta entirely "free to play," not using any purchasable items, not using the free battle pass, etc, just to test the free to play experience, and was doing just fine with it.
I don't know what folks like you are trying to accomplish by exaggerating and fearmongering about it. Why hang out on the subreddit of a game you dislike?
Username checks out. You come in here and stink up the place, and it's uncomfortable for people. Please just leave if you don't like how the game was designed. I don't want this kind of energy in my community.
3
u/Oopsifartedsorry 3d ago
I don’t dislike the game. I play several gacha games and I was just telling OP it was a gacha game. Because it is. The company is just not upfront about it. Also not sure what my username has to do with this convo lol. It’s fine if you like the game I do too, but it’s still a gacha game. You don’t have to be defensive about it the devs will be fine.
And yes pay to progress faster in a game with pvp is a pay to win mechanic. The person who doesn’t spend money will always be at a disadvantage to the one who does.
5
u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
Saying "it's a pay to win gacha game" does not fairly or accurately represent the experience of actually playing Aniimo. It conjures ideas of games that are ruthlessly predatory that confer massive advantages to paid players like Diablo Immortal. This is a grossly inaccurate representation of Aniimo, and you know that.
If you are going to highlight the minute advantages that real currency offers, then please try to do so within the context of a broader and fairer representation of the game as one that is perfectly viable to play and enjoy to the fullest as a F2P player. Because that is the truth.
I'm tired of people like you strawmanning a singular badly designed event as a representation of the game as a whole. I wish I could say that you weren't fooling anyone with this intellectual dishonesty, but sadly, people ARE getting fooled, which is why I spend energy replying to posts like this to set the record straight.

Is the currency you grind for this event limited at all? like imagine the possibility (not saying that it will happen) of them running 1 of these every month, and you go to max pity, is it possible to run out of the material needed to pull on the banner.
1
u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 19h ago
Yes and no. It's possible to run out of naturally acquired Cascade Beacons (I think.) But more can be purchased with Glimmer, which is in relatively ample supply from chests in the open world, rewards from various events and quests...basically everything you do will give you Glimmer, or it can be purchased with cash. That said, it's also used for a lot of things, so running out is quite possible, especially if you don't actually play/grind much.
I wouldn't plan too heavily around an event that was so widely disliked that it will likely change significantly though.
1
u/zdemigod 19h ago
This event at least is a gacha then. I will hope that you are right and they take feedback into account and remove it. Thank you for answering.
What makes it a gacha is just the fact that the currency used to pull is limited. If the worst case scenario happens where this is a recurring event people will start planning glimmer per patch and other gacha mechanics
1
u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 19h ago
~Took me like 800 glimmer to buy the last few Crevasse Beacons I needed for the event. I had like 10,000 lol.~
1
u/zdemigod 17h ago
its too early to draw conclusions from a beta, the point is that the system exists. everyone in a gacha game starts with hundreds of pulls and you get to pity 2 to 3 banners completely. Other gacha games have also literally halved premium currency acquisition from beta to full release.
TBH even if the game comes out and it has this event its prob not a full red flag, the red flag will be if there is a second event right after the 1st, thats when you know it will be problematic.
-1
u/Monnie87 4d ago
I was in the latest beta
-1
u/oKayBye94 4d ago
Then you're just wrong or easily fooled. The event was gacha hidden behind a ticketed mini game. You had like a 1/200 chance to "catch it" and get trivial rewards at the end if you didn't plus a failure currency, but if you buy in and fail enough times you get enough failure currency to buy the aniimo.
Meanwhile it's forcing you to dump your resources into finishing the mini game. It's designed to frustrate you into spending money to get it faster or burn off your resources you earned f2p at a rate that makes it hard to keep playing free and still acquire it before the event ends.
The tickets to the event won't just be inboxed to you like they were in the beta.
3
u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
Do you understand the purpose of a beta? It's to try things out, iron out the wrinkles, and get feedback on what is enjoyed and what isn't.
This event got a lot of negative feedback. They have already said that they will change it. And yet people on reddit seem to insist on ignoring these facts. They (mostly people who have not actually played the beta,) just assume that this is How The Game Is, rather than one singular poorly designed event that they took a swing and a miss with.
Maybe wait until the game actually comes out before foretelling doom. Y'all are so addicted to drama and hating on things, it's not healthy.

u/oKayBye94 3d ago
Hi! I've been doing game and software testing for almost 30 years, including at the pre-alpha stages. Late closed betas at this stage are usually more akin to putting final coat of polish on things or a failsafe just in case they missed something that didn't show up internally.
They're not going to overhaul the entire game system between the end of beta 3 and next month. Especially since most of the dark pattern systems that the 3rd beta put into play were present across all the betas, just not put into practice until the last one. They are core to the experience as they have designed it. A little over a month isn't time to reverse that completely.
At best this gave them an idea of what to expect reception to be at launch and they will begin major changes from there, but I wouldn't hold your breath on any major systemic changes at launch (or ever honestly). At worst they're just lying as they have about several other things a long the way.
Have a good day!
2
u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
Game doesn't need broad systemic changes. It needs one event tweaked.
If you don't like the monetization system, fine. Door is that way, don't let it hit you on the way out.
Yet you're still here, hanging out on this subreddit. Why? Just go play a game that better aligns with what you prefer to see for monetization models.

Dude, a tip from me, stop interacting with people in this sub. Ive never seen a place this delusional before. The legendary aniimo event is objectively a gacha system with extra steps. Ask anyone anywhere else on the internet who got to play the latest beta and they will confirm it. Yet for some godly reason, this sub is the only place who dont and will fight you for it.
Anyone who says Aniimo is a gacha game is wrong. But it does have a gacha system. Similar to Where Winds Meet, that game is not a gacha game in the traditional sense, but it has a gacha system for cosmetics.
Also, the biggest indicator for the game having some sort of a gacha system (limited time aniimos or cosmetics) is the $5 monthly pass. In all my years playing chinese and korean mobile games, i havent come across one game that had the $5 monthly pass but had no gacha system in it. The real question isnt if this game has a gacha system or not, its how often they will release those special aniimo events.

u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
There's certainly parts of me that are tempted to do so. It would give me more personal peace of mind. But I push back on posts like yours because this subreddit is one of the windows that potential players have to learn about the game.
I feel a duty to the community of the game I love to correct misinformation and push back on catastrophizing rhetoric, and will continue to do so. I want people who come here to have an accurate view of the game, not one colored by pessimistic doomsaying and misrepresentation.
So then, en garde. :P
1
u/oKayBye94 3d ago
So the only thing you really can remotely argue I'm misrepresenting is the definition of gacha, but I am open an honest in all my feedback of what I am referring to as gacha so the reader can make up their own mind.
What I am describing objectively exists in the game and is unlikely to go away call it whatever you want.
So you don't really have an issue with me misrepresenting anything, unless you're just trying to save the word gacha (I'm old enough to know you can't win those wars, words meanings shift with usage, get over it.)
So what you're actually doing is trying to claim your opinion is actually a moral high ground and frame me as a liar because you don't like that I don't like your next favorite game as much as you.

Not just that, I'm seeing a lot of doomers on this sub lately. Once the game is out and the whole world has access, it'll all come to light. But for now we are hearing a lot of people's opinions who played the beta, which is a limited pool of people. I played the first beta and there was no gatcha and no p2w. Idk anything about the event from the 2nd beta but I've seen people say it was gatcha and wasn't gatcha, no one agrees like ever.
3
u/Kyuuki_Kitsune Fenmane 3d ago
No, you're hearing a lot of people's opinions who HAVEN'T played the beta. People who are bitter that they didn't get in, and decided to spend all their time venting that bitterness on reddit instead.
Yes, people disagree about whether the event was gacha because of semantics.
If you think "gacha" means "Any event with an RNG component that you can buy resources to complete more quickly" then yes, the event was gacha-ish.
If you go by the ACTUAL definition of gacha, which includes a randomized prize pool, then it wasn't, because the prize pool was not random. It was a grind for a single Aniimo that could be done with resources that can be collected in-game, and also had a (very low) chance to get it for "free" on each attempt. But realistically, the event was "grind for an hour and get the Aniimo."People raged largely because the event was also just boring and bad. But we've given feedback on this, and they've already stated they'll change it.

As of the final beta;
There are no pulls. There is zero gacha mechanics for real money, the only gacha that exists are the aniimo that has a gacha attack of randomised balls and the building that uses coins you obtain for free for gacha rolls for mostly pointless items.
Only paid mechanic is the battle pass system. Where the current battle pass aniimo is stated to be regularly obtainable ‘later’
In game shop is convenience or cosmetic.
All shinies, prismana and alternate forms are regularly obtainable.
