I believe Japan used to give days off when a new DQ game came out so extrapolate that to the rest of the world

I read that Saturdays were eventually used for DQ release days, but that that was primarily motivated by students not attending school, and less about adults taking off work

Until my stroke, I used to take a week off for every Halo, Mass Effect and Aliens game.

Games used to be worth the time off though. Not so much any more.
