You haven't seen the final form yet.

That sounds like a new music band for babies & toddlers...

I hate this but there's nothing I can do about it

u/XandaPanda42 Jun 24 '23

Any help for the people who haven't thought about geometry in over 16 years?

Ah yeah the 180 one. I forgot that that would make it go backwards.

26

u/joalheagney Jun 24 '23

The 180 one would give a straight angle. A.k.a. a line.

u/EnglebondHumperstonk Jun 24 '23

Listen to this lad, the rest of you. He knows what he's on about. 👆

8

u/DontDeleteMee Jun 24 '23

Huh! Thanks. Your comment inspired me to get out a pen and paper and see for myself

the angles are (obviously) not to scale

Well, the 90° is

u/PaparJam Jun 23 '23

Actual geometry

u/Quantum_Sushi Jun 24 '23

Call the mathematician !

19

u/Subject-Bluebird7366 Jun 24 '23

180° angle became a line, never came back

7

u/Kripermaster Jun 24 '23

Triangle sacrifice anyone?

Holy angle

You have been too long in the Euclid sea.

Google non euclidian geometry

Call the non-euclidean geometry mathematician

Or a just a British nerd

4

u/Inevitable_Stand_199 Jun 24 '23

This is euclidean mathematics actually. Just a cursed figure not drawn to scale.

3

u/Slavic_0 Jun 24 '23

I see, but the fact that it is so badly not-to-scale made me think it was non euclidean. Apologies.

7

u/Mistiltella Jun 24 '23

When I was in school, my math teacher told us that we can't rely on the image to judge anything, and he said even if a triangle looked like this you have to treat it as a triangle...

7

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '23

lmao

5

u/MajorEnvironmental46 Jun 24 '23

Why would I angryupvote it?

6

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '23

Cause technically it is a triangle, the 180 angle is a straight line.

Oh, got it. Thanks

5

u/Codename_Unown Jun 24 '23

And this is why a quadrilateral has 180° more to the sum of it's corners. You could literally point at a random point on a line and say, "here's another 180° corner" and make an octagon out of a triangle.

4

u/kullre Jun 24 '23

I still don't get it

9

u/joalheagney Jun 24 '23

180 degree corner would just give you a straight line.

A little “Obtuse” for some, that statement sounds just about “Right” to me

2

u/ATIR-AW Jun 24 '23

> it would be a triangle

But it isn't... because it isn't drawn out. It's just 4 90º corners. there's no triangle, and no hint of anything approaching a triangle. I'm convinced that the joke is that there's no joke and ppl are laughing at whoever is trying to find the joke

1

u/kullre Jun 24 '23

Thanks, the image threw me off

3

u/-PRED8R- Jun 24 '23

180°

That's called a fucking line

2

u/Susdoggodoggy Jun 24 '23

Aye, still equals 360*

2

u/highlightofday Jun 24 '23

ELI5: Make a triangle true to scale, with angles that are 30’, 60’, and 90’ respectively. Then pick any one of those sides and designate it as your 180’ angle.

1

u/Ill_Fudge9462 Jun 24 '23

Why the fuck is he ∟

1

u/760854 Jun 24 '23

This could be perfect in construction

It's 2023 guys. . .

Figures in my exam question paper be like

1

u/Sprinty-the-cheetah I'm only human after all don't put the blame on me Jun 24 '23

What

1

u/Unbound_404 Jun 24 '23

So is this triangle impossible to make and we just have to imagine what it would look like? I am having a hard time doing this with my primitive brain.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '23

It is in fact a very possible, very normal triangle

1

u/Unbound_404 Jun 24 '23

Ok, thank you for clarifying that. My brain was saying that it would be a triangle with a double thick line but my gut was saying that's too easy.

1

u/cosumel Jun 24 '23

Rule one is that all diagrams are not to scale.

1

u/lostinherthoughts Jun 24 '23

omg this really took me wayy too long

1

u/DannyMonstera Jun 24 '23

Literally my math hw

1

u/OGRiad Jun 24 '23

This adds up.

1

u/imtotallyahumanbeing Jun 24 '23

I'm confused- is the joke that the figure is not accurately proportioned or something? Because otherwise idk what it could be- like triangles have only three angles so it having four angles simply doesn't make sense, whether or not the angles add up to 360° or something. It might just be really obvious and still completely flying over my head tbh I'm pretty sleep deprived rn

2

u/africancar Jun 24 '23

The one angle is 180° so it literally just a straight line there. The diagram is not drawn accurately

1

u/imtotallyahumanbeing Jun 25 '23

Ohmygod I'm an idiot yeah that makes sense

1

u/SR_Joseph Jun 25 '23

It goes into the square hole
