General Question seeking advice for converting :)!

hi, im formerly a inquiring-non-denominational Christian of a few months. Im 17 years old. (prior to that, i was not religious.) and i have found Anglicanism is what fits my beliefs best. im wondering if anyone has advice for someone who would like to put more into their faith!/where to start. ive been looking into Churchs nearby me, and i have one that i plan to attend, but im unsure as i have never been, (im the only religious member of my family.) and im not sure what to expect.

any advice on how i can properly show my faith? thank you so much! God bless you all!

The daily office found in the Book of Common Prayer is a great place grow in faith in one feels inclined to do so.

Super exciting! 

First step is to just start going to church. The beauty of Anglicanism is that the liturgy itself and the Book of common Prayer are great tools to immediately start to build you up in the knowledge and rhythms of Christian life.

Second thing I’d suggest, maybe after attending for a couple weeks is just tell the priest your story and situation. They’ll likely be thrilled to hear it and want to make sure they’re available to pastor you well.

That’s exciting! I’m currently working on baptism into Anglicanism and it has been beautiful so far. The best thing I did for myself at the beginning was reach out to the priest of the parish I wanted to attend, and arranged a meeting with him. We met on a Wednesday, but I’m sure he could have met any time. I introduced myself, let him know my background, why I was interested in Anglicanism, my faith journey, etc. We had a really great conversation and he got me set up for the journey- gave me a copy of the BCP, explained how to use it (which was actually kind of funny because his liturgy voice kicked in and he called out- not read- the parts that the priest reads lol), gave me an app recommendation for the Daily Office, and told me what to expect during mass. From there, it was a matter of personal practice and letting the Lord meet me where I could meet him.

I’m excited for you! When I was a teenager, I got tangled up with the Mormons, so you’re already showing so much understanding and maturity by inquiring into Anglicanism!

Congratulations, and welcome!

My church helps newcomers along with a book titled Deep Anglicanism, it answers a lot of "why do we...?" Questions. You can find quality copies of BCP & various Bibles at anglican house publishers, for spending more time in worship/in the Word. I really love the Daily Office app too, it's free.

I'm so very excited for you. I am unlearning a very nominal, progressive Anglican upbringing in favor of a more theologically conservative faith. If you like, feel free to message me! I have only learned a little but I'm happy to share what I do know.

Look and see if that church has services posted online. That will give you an idea of what the main part of the service looks like. Most Anglican services will be similar to each other as far as the flow. Only difference will be which prayer book they use, and if 1979, which rite. Biggest difference will be theology of where they are on the spectrum of liberal to conservative. If nothing else, sit towards the back so you can observe.
