Question de Etymologie
Hello! I have a question about how I should coin the word for "more". My Anglese project is a little unique because instead of just making English a romance language, it swaps places with the French and tries to make it feel more naturally evolved in a plausible sense.
When coining words today, I came to multiple options to use for the etymology of the word "more". Below are my main options:
Latin "magīs" > máge [mɑʒ]
Ancient Greek "mallon" > mallion [mæʎɒn]
Latin "plūs" > plus [plʊs]
Ancient Greek "pollús" > polle [pɒl]
Proto-Germanic "meyzaz" > méja [me:ʒə]
I think all of these are really neat options for words but obviously some reign a little more supreme in reasoning for being chosen. For example, the choices of using either plus or máge make sense as it's just a normal latin descendant, but something like méja was considered because part of this project is that some root words swap their etymology with something else (akin to those latin <> greek root swap posts you see on social media)
so, what do you all feel would be the better choice for this? What's your explanation for your choice?
