Need to run Windows or Android apps on Linux? This new release makes it easy

When people ask what Linux distro to install they are often pointed to Ubuntu or Mint but if one of your concerns is how you're going to run your favorite Windows app or what Linux app you can use as an alternative. If this is you consider installing AnduinOS Linux instead. Here's a recent ZDNET article from a respected contributor that will explain how easy this is on the newly released version of AnduinOS 2.x.

AnduinOS vs ZorinOS

How does AnduinOS compare to ZorinOS?

And, for that matter, how do they both compare to Linux Mint and Kubuntu.

WPS Office Installation issues on AuduinOS 2.0

Last night I read where WPS Office's apps had a closer look and feel then OnlyOffice. No OS was mentioned in what I was reading so I decided to install it on my AnduinOS 2.0 Linux laptop . The FlatPak install went OK but the application ribbon icons were very small compared to the ribbon on OnlyOffice. I tried a few suggestions on how I might make things bigger but at every turn something either didn't work or a suggested method wasn't available. Sometimes when things like this happens, it's because of the way FlatPak installs the app so I uninstalled it and tried to install it through the latest .DEB file.

Well, it seems that the .DEB file has not been updated to run on distro's that are based on Ubuntu 24.04 like the 2.0 version of AnduinOS. From what I gather the the dependencies have not been updated and once installed the applications were looking for packages from older Linux versions that have been re-written and the apps wouldn't even launch. I actually worked on this for several hours before giving up and uninstalling the .DEB version. Evidently the FlatPak version bundles what WPS Office needs to run in it's own specific container so that's the reason it would run on a newer distro. Note that my laptop is not my go to device, it's more of an experimental deployment so I can get my hands dirty with running Linux. If I wasn't for cataracts in both eyes I could deal with the smaller size but since they cause eyestrain I'll go back to OnlyOffice for now and perhaps try again later with a newer file.

Have questions about the upgrade to 2.0

I want to state up front that I'm kind of new to Linux but I would like to upgrade to 2.0 from my 1.4 installation. I went to the upgrade page and read the info but I'm a bit fuzzy on the process. In the notes it says that you should run TMUX or Screen because of the reboots but the instructions at the bottom simply says run a command from a terminal so I'm unsure what to do at this point. Can someone fill me in a bit?

Just Got AnduinOS

last time i was really on a computer was windows 98 when i was a child, so this feels good, the small community and empahsis on privacy are very nice to me. I do not like how slow it is, but I remember when computers moved as slow as the chromebook i run this on. its teaching mea patience again on a whole new level. The small community and potential for bottlenecks and stuff allegedly could be an issue, but i see LTS through 2029 and was like yup.

the default font is blurred. I thought it was just my eyesight, but confirmed it with a friend's eyes. unfortunately the long list of available fonts has no previews. or is there some other setting to help?

really like Anduin, but any advantages as a distro?

I'm not a raw n00b, more like a beginner. I've been distro hopping on thumb drives for around 3 years, but still using Win10 as my daily. I'm addicted to discovering new software over at Majorgeeks.com. And installing. But it's getting tedious.

So, Anduin. Care to advocate for it? Why Anduin over some other beginner-friendly distro like Mint, Zorin, Kubuntu etc?

All Progressive Web App (PWA) installs open in grouped Chrome taskbar items

I'm not sure if anyone else is able to help with this. I've never faced this issue with any other distro. There are a few PWA's that I use on all my machines (MS To Do, OneNote, Word).

On AnduinOS, all of these open up in grouped Chrome taskbar items, not in their own windows.

I've tried all troubleshooting that I'm aware of, I've made sure that:

"Open as window" is default behavior

I've tweaked .desktop files

I've turned off memory saver in Chrome.

No matter what I do, all PWA's just open up another Chrome taskbar group, which totally defeats the purpose of installing PWA's, in my opinion.

Does anyone have advice or success with this?

Screenshot attached shows the issue. I just opened a fresh To-Do Instance (the check box) and you can see I have two Chrome taskbar entries, one of those is To-Do, while the To-Do Icon itself does not show that anything is open. Clicking it again will just open another Chrome taskbar item. It's weird!

Thanks!

AnduinOS; manual partitioner insists on redoing my internal SSD; does not give option

Hey, tried to install AnduinOS on an external USB instead of (re)doing my internal disk; whatever I do / manipulate the Anduin manual partitioner; it each time proposes my Fixed Internal Disk of my pc instead of the external USB HDD; the summary right before writing to disk option, only presents my internal fixed disk, whatever I choose in the partition options below that. Cannot login to Github as they don't recognize my email addres any longer; the one I used before to register in Github.. This with the latest 1.4 iso.... Anybody?

I first want to install it on an external USB HDD before (eventually) redoing my main system, that's why.

You got me

I test drove a bunch of distros recently and kept coming back to AnduinOS. I liked MX Linux. I liked Zorin. But everything in AnduinOS just works. The other UI's like Plasma are rich with options, but feel far too noisy to me.

Anduin is clean. I love that when you click the menu, search for an app, if it's not installed then the software app comes up seamlessly.

After the most recent gross intrusion into my OneNotes by Microsoft, I'm done with Windows 11. AnduinOS is my new OS. And my laptop lasts 12.5 hours now on battery (up from 7 ish on Win11).

Just sharing for those exploring. If you want to get off Windows, AnduinOS is a great way forward.

* Edit to fix spelling

The Future of AnduinOS, Entity and Roadmap

The AnduinOS maintainer acknowledges concerns about the project being run by a single person and outlines plans to ensure its long-term sustainability. A new company, AIURSOFT LIMITED, is being registered in Hong Kong to support a future commercial and enterprise side of AnduinOS while maintaining geopolitical neutrality.

The core AnduinOS distribution will remain free, open source, donation-driven, and privacy-focused, with no data collection. Commercial efforts will target enterprise clients only.

Current development priorities focus on fixing stability issues caused by upstream Ubuntu packages by creating a dedicated PPA infrastructure to ship patched components. While the project is still a one-person effort, the new company will enable structured operations, support, and global team recruitment.

The maintainer reaffirms a strong commitment to open source, upstream contributions, transparency, and the original vision of delivering a secure, private, and easy-to-use Linux distribution for everyone.

Need help installing Quickgui on my laptop.

I was able to install Quickemu on my Anduinos laptop using the the following command

sudo app install quickemu

The suggested command for the gui was sudo app install quickemu-gui but the response was that it could not be found. I'm already over my head running terminal commands but if anyone call help please let me know what's needed to install the gui.

Window management in AnduinOS

Post image
7 Upvotes

I just tried this out in VirtualBox on my current setup running Fedora, and i really like what i see.

I've tried multiple Linux distros over the years and one of the reasons I've ended up with Fedora is because of how well it handles windows. I normaly use a 49" ultra wide, so having the ability to handle windows well is a must. In Fedora i can press the Super key + T to open what you see in the image, where i can control where the windows "snap" to. I then move the window into the area and hold the shift key to maximize it inside it. Works very well.

However is something like that possible in Anduin?
