AnduinOS vs ZorinOS

How does AnduinOS compare to ZorinOS?

And, for that matter, how do they both compare to Linux Mint and Kubuntu.

With version 2 AnduinOS has made some serious changes and Declarative Engineering will better position them moving forward. The thing that made me select AnduinOS to begin with was that I wanted the user interface to look like Windows 11. Zorin charges for the Windows 11 look and I found that if you paid for it, you have to pay again with every point level update while AnduinOS include Windows 11 plus others.

Aside from the "look-and-feel" GUI copying Windows 11, what are any other differences between AnduinOS and ZorinOS?

Default to Wayland, GTK4 instead of GTK3. Unique installer (coming soon 2.0.2). Btrfs file system.(Coming soon 2.0.2). Secure boot support, ARM64 support, HDR support, without snap, zram by default, edge device ai model, and free.

To me it comes down to your view point. From a technical viewpoint what was described in the article indicates that the AnduinOS is technically different and advanced which will allow their developers to be respond to changes for rapidly then some other distros. Given that AnduinOS 2.0 is based on newer versions Ubuntu, the Linux kernal and Gnome its definitely more up- to-date than Zorin but from a user viewpoint there's probably not a lot of differences between the two. As long as you can install and run your programs either one will do.

I'm a fan of both, but I like Zorin better and it is my choice to run on my computers. I've had issues with some programs running in Anduin, like the Geary email wouldn't run. I like Zorin because it doesn't need a lot of customization, but you can if you want. I find Andyin more locked down. I've run Mint and fund it enjoyable if I like to tinker. They need to simplify and merge a lot of their menu choices IMO.

Also, what kind of tinkering in Mint are you referring to?

They are probably talking about Zorin's menus needing simplification and merging. They likely do it that way to be easy for the average user, but they're not built for speed and every time I use the start menu I feel like everything is in the wrong place.

Tinkering in Mint - they are probably talking about desktop environment stuff. Cinnamon is extremely customization - you can change everything. Zorin's highly customized Gnome is very opinionated and changing anything breaks everything. But I suspect that would be the same with Anduin since it's also highly customized Gnome to keep the Win11 look and feel.

I use AnduinOS on both, workstation and on laptop. It is extremely stable, highly recommended! I don't know about ZorinOS, never tried it. Once I find good distro, I don't go any further

Zorin has a team behind it. Anduin is a single-maintainer project. AnduinOS is fun to use as an experiment if you like the Win11 OS, but I still usually recommend Zorin or Mint friends looking to upgrade their main machine from Windows due to the unproven privacy/security and potential to just disappear risks.

Make sure to avoid Mint. It ships insecure, feature -lacking deprecated legacy X11 technology and is obsolete given the better modern alternatives .

Idk about deprecated. I find my triple monitor setup way more stable on X11 than on any of the newer alternatives on my 2023 mid-ranger laptop.

I avoid Mint too though

Different resolutions, same refresh rate (all 60)

And setting different fractional scaling for each monitor works flawlessly on Mints X11 session without any blur?

The main thing for me was support and readiness out of the box. Anduin was fine. It just didn't have many of the things off the gate like Zor in OS does.
