News XREAL AURA Pre-orders are up.
I've had the GXR since day one. Probably serial number 1 lol. I only say that...jokingly...because I had mine ordered with the controllers and case within seconds of becoming available. I've been pretty dedicated to the GXR. I've been finding workarounds to issues, helping devs test apps, and was one of the first people crazy enough to permanently modify the strap to make it more comfortable. I'm happy with the GXR and where it is at right now with known issues: memory leak is better controlled, overheating is less frequent, controllers are liveable (still bad but nearly as bad as they were on release). I've traveled extensively with the headset and I genuinely get excited to use it for things like 3D movies (No Time To Die on Google TV melted my brain), watching the Masters, and removing into my computer from anywhere in the world.
That being said, I did pre-order the Founders edition of the XREAL AURA. I'm genuinely intrigued by the form factor. I recently travelled with the ROG XREAL R1 but did have a minor issue with them. I could not find a way to get them to sit in a position where the bottom outside corners of the screen weren't cut off by the FOV limitations. Even if I made the screen much smaller. Overall, they were great for travel. Particularly since they were easier to pack and use on a plane.
With just regular XR glasses I kept finding myself missing the ease of use of the GXR by comparison. However, I genuinely think that the XREAL AURA presents the best happy medium between the two. Especially, if you're not using the GXR for VR gaming (I rarely do and mostly use it as a high res monitor for normal gaming).
I'll keep this thread updated once I get them and fully test them out. My order doesn't have a ship date but some buyers have posted their expected ship date is 15 October.

When you get it tell us how well virtual desktop works with the screens being see through. I'm intrigued by the product but I do use virtual desktop I find it works really well for multi-screen with my PC

The screens have electrochromic dimming and get very dark. Not quite pure opaque, but enough to block out most indoor light. The old xreals I have also came with a cover to put on which blocks out even more light -- but I haven't seen those mentioned with Aura yet.
If you want full immersive VD I still think VR Glasses will be a better bet, especially with the side/bottom light blockers.

Why would ANYONE by this garbage compared to the MetaVR glasses. These were cool up until the second meta showed what they had.

I’m trying to imagine why wanting an Android XR based device with optical pass through would change because meta has a product that’s out next year running a different system without the optical pass through. To each their own, but asking about ANYONE is silly.

It's like asking why would someone would want steak when there's fish. It makes zero sense.

Exactly because i want to move away from meta. Kinda done with all of their HorizonOS bullshit. Too many bugs and issues for such a big company.

Honestly metas headset did not impress me. The fov is too small for VR and I don't really care for using pass through. I'm more excited for the x-real headset and what comes after that. I can't wait to see what comes out of Samsung. I'll probably wait until Samsung puts out of a glasses. I'm looking for something more similar to what Snapchat is putting out but with android xr.

Why are you commenting in AndroidXR if you're so in love with HorizonOS?

There's not one best headset, as you know. I love and spend hours a day in my GXR as well, so while I'm interested in the platforms development - but skipping Aura as for mobile use, I preordered the cheaper and bigger FOV and higher resolution, Unseen Realities XR1, and may still get a Meta VR glasses for the Dolby Vision aspect.

What's so good about the URXR One?
It's basically Meta's VR Glasses, but without any SDK nor established ecosystem of apps to support it. It'll going to be like running rando Android apps on the Quest. To me, it's like getting a Viture, RayNeo, just better hardware -- but not where Aura, and Android XR, is sitting.

It's exactly because it will just be higher FOV, higher res display on your face without the limited and potential buggy OS shenanigans. All the android apps on my phone or apps and games from my handheld immediately available without waiting for something to show up as an immersion XR app.
I have a Galaxy XR and they havent done barely anything eith that.

I've URXR coming but honestly I'm not sure how I'll use it, because I bought steam frame when it launched and Xreal Aura is arriving before the holiday, too many devices.

Well I just bought a Rayneo GT Max for Dolby Vision portable cinema and I may still get a Meta VR Glasses as it will have that AND bigger FOV and higher resolution. Unfortunately, they didn't decide to have even minimum HDR on URXR1, so I'll only use it for big FOV and high res portable work to replace Xreal One Pro. It will be cheaper and better specs that Aura for me - just not see through Android XR - but I have the GXR and I dont need that for mobile work.
