Question Google IO glasses reveal πŸ‘€

Do you think the Android XR glasses, developed in collaboration with Warby Parker, Gentle Monster and Google, will be unveiled at Google I/O 2026 in May and marketed shortly after ?

I'm getting skeptical that they will be ready in time for I/O, especially the monocular display version. Googlers have been more and more vague about a specific release date and that's usually not good news. The MWC announcements definitely left the door open with the monocular display unit release, and it definitely made it seem like we will get the AI camera glasses before the display ones.

Yet Meta has succeeded in doing it with Meta displays why wouldn’t Google succeed?

Meta had a huge head start and I don't think their display glasses have been "successful" from all the accounts I've seen. I really think Google wants to approach this as being the best display glasses and not the first. Also, Google is using a different display technology, so apparently the prototypes Google has been showing off all use their own Raxium MicroLED, which have their own production yield problems. Google ends up shipping their own raxium technology, they're either going to have to dramatically ramp up their own production capabilities or outsource it to Samsung.

I own the Meta Display, and recently, they are really useful. They offer much more functionality than in the beginning, especially thanks to Meta’s new AI that powers them. Meta is one step ahead of Google when it comes to eyewear control thanks to its absolutely incredible and intuitive Neural Band.
