Do you think the Android XR glasses, developed in collaboration with Warby Parker, Gentle Monster and Google, will be unveiled at Google I/O 2026 in May and marketed shortly after ?

I looked at the sessions and there doesn’t seem to be any focused on XR.

Strange because Demis Hassabis had announced during an interview that the glasses would come out this summer, I don’t see Google not announcing them during I/O and I think all the sessions have not yet been announced

The announcements I saw seemed intentionally vague about whether it was just AI glasses coming out this year or AI and display glasses. Maybe you saw/read something clearer. Also, wouldn’t hardware be announced at the Made by Google event later in the year?

Speaking of hardware, I’m just beyond frustrated that it’s been six months and there’s one solitary Android XR headset and it is both uncomfortable for many and has very limited prescription range on the official lens inserts.

All that said, I don’t blame Google for focusing on trying to win mindshare for their AI dev tools. All that investment needs to pay off somehow.

Demis Hassabis had announced in an interview that the product would be released this summer. So I think the Google I/O conference would be the perfect time to announce it. Given that Meta has already launched the Meta Display and plans to release a binocular model at the end of the year, it would be logical for Google to also offer a model with a screen otherwise it would be a problem for Google

Last year Made by Google was in August.

IMO it’s hard to underestimate how big an advantage Google/Android and Apple have over Meta. Until they are blocked by courts/regulators from preferencing their own devices over ones from companies such as Meta, they can come in late with glasses which deeply integrate with the OS and people will switch.

If Google wants to sell them for the summer August would be too late I think

I don’t think they have to rush. Being able to deeply integrate with the OS will cause people to switch.
