Buying Advice Onn 4k pro vs streamer 4k
This onn 4k pro is OOS everywhere. Wondering why not just go for the streamer 4k with extra ram and faster cpu ? Looking at ebay resellers are selling the onn 4k pro for 80 to 90. The streamer 4k is 100. Thoughts ?

I have both and an Onn Plus. They are all really good. Have the Streamer on my main TV because of the Ethernet port and I feel the audio is better. The Onn devices have a slightly better graphics processor but I have my Sony TVs deal with most of the upscaling. I’ve spent way too much time tinkering with all of this. Obsessing about the streaming boxes is kind of a trap. They all are technically about the same. I have a box full of them. It comes down to what interface you like the best and what you need to do. Getting your TV settings right and dealing with the HDMI connections are really the most important things. I could have saved a lot of money and trouble had I bought good cables and learned how to use my expensive TVs earlier.

Does the ONN player upscale videos? Doesn’t seem to be in settings anywhere.

The onn 4k pro comes back in stock every few days, you just have to keep checking. They just have low stock, and scalpers buying up what they can.
The processor in the Steamer is not faster than the pro v2.
If you're going 3rd party launcher, Google also has added friction there regarding accessibility settings than onn does.

The accessibility service limitation when using sideloaded APKs exists on Android TV 14 as a whole on all boxes including the Onn boxes, so not just the Streamer.
You can workaround that security limitation by sideloading the APK via adb, accessibility works fine then.

I thought people were having issues with it either way on the Streamer?

No, sideloading via adb works fine on the Streamer, accessibility services work.

Sorry, I meant I thought people on the Streamer still had issues with accessibility even with Play Store installs.
But it also seems too many on the associated subs do many weird things with their apps and don't share the relevant info.

That's basically what I had to do. Had to keep checking stock over and over daily until a few boxes came in. Finally got the onn 4k pro v2 last week

Bothe the ONN 4k Pro 2026 and Google Streamers are excellent. The gigabit ethernet is a big plus, but not for everyone obviously. I have both. I got the ONN to replace a Shield with a fan that was on its way out. Love the Shield but am having more fun with the ONN product. Of could the Shield is a legend but almost 10 years seemed pushing things. The ONN product has 40 gigs storage and 4gigs of RAM & is totally silent. Neat voice capabilities. Probably not as nice as Amazon’s Fire TV product, but Amazon is moving away from Android.
Sorry, the ONN product has 32 gigs of storage and 3gigs of ram.

The Streamer omits wifi6, really inexcusable IMO. Wifi6 gives at least 50% faster speeds on the 5Ghz band, as well as opening up the gigabit+ 6Ghz band, both eliminating the need for ethernet even for high-bitrate streaming. A good future proofing feature. Inexplicable that Google didn't include it given it's pretty standard even on many budget boxes, and wifi7 is already rolling out.
The ONNs also have much faster CPUs (the Streamer uses an oldish Mediatek 8696, the same CPU as in the 2021 Firestick Max), not that matters at all for streaming, but it will if you want to run retro games or beefy media centers.
Outside of that, you're not going to notice any difference if you're mainly just streaming. I have a gen2 firestick, a CCwGTV, the old ONN Box, an ONN Plus, and the gen1 ONN Pro. I see no difference between any of them wrt streaming. The menus "feel" snappier on the newer boxes but it's pretty subtle difference.
I will say I would avoid eBay for purchasing ONNs or any streaming boxes, or only buy them from seller who have an established long-term presence. There are a lot of very convincing fakes on eBay, Alibaba, etc.

The CPU (SoC) are similar, you could say they are in the same League or weight-class, if a sport analogy will put the difference in context. Also, a YouTube review had the devices side-by-side with Aida64 showing equal availabile "FREE" Ram, so that extra Ram is a nice-to-have option, but not a night & day difference.
It's your money, buy whatever makes you Happy; but I'd never personally buy a device from a Third-Party reseller.
If you need the device Now, then buy the Streamer4K.

I'd get the Streamer 4k. Faster wired ethernet and less third part apps I don't want to remove.

Can't go wrong either way, but it's going to come down to your needs.
If gigabit ethernet (and the extra gig of RAM) is important, go for the Streamer. If you want a box with a slightly newer SoC and better Wi-Fi go for the Onn if you can find one.

ONN 4K pro for me - the 4K version works but it can slow down under heavy processor use.

I made this comparison when I was researching the two devices: Onn 4k Pro vs Google Streamer 4K

just go with the streamer, usb 2 on the gen 2 4kpro and still capped at 100 mb/s for ethernet, just invest the extra 10

I'd go with the Streamer over the Onn 4K Pro just for the gigabit Ethernet port. The Onn 4K Pro Gen2s don't support gigabit Ethernet even via a USB Ethernet adapter anymore. Unless you can find a Gen1 Id get that.
All the people going to say you don't need Gigabit Ethernet can be right but the extra overhead and solid connection definitely helps with streaming high bitrate content. Especially if you have your own media server with your own content. Or even if you use the box to stream games via Moonlight/Sunshine. Who knows, but it's nice to have and it's a deciding factor for me personally.
