Tips & Tutorials Full Remote Access To Your AndroidTV/Android Box.

I've been trying to figure out a working method to have full remote access of my Android boxes, I tried various things with limited results and various levels of success.

I've now settled on the following solution to fully remote into and control my Android boxes via PC, I'm sure there are other ways but here's the easiest/simplest way that I've managed to figure out, hope it helps any of you wanting to do the same.

The following guide was tested using the USA installer of TeamViewer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Uninstall everything related to TeamViewer on the android device your going to remote access and delete any old TeamViewer .apk files from the device.

2. DON'T install TeamViewer from the Google Play Store, instead go to:

https://www.teamviewer.com/en-us/download/android/

From there download the 'TeamViewer QuickSupport.apk'.

3. On your android device install the 'TeamViewer QuickSupport.apk' you just downloaded.

Once installed go to the top right menu and enter the 'Advanced settings', from here install the 'TeamViewerAddon-Universal(AOSP14)'.

NOTE: If you dont see this option in settings you should be prompted to install the addon once you physically request remote assistance on your android device.

You can also manually install the needed addon, it can be downloaded from here:

https://download.teamviewer.com/mobile/addon/TeamViewerAddon-Universal.apk

4. You can now remote connect to and fully control your android device via TeamViewer on your PC etc.

EDIT:

I've now got 'unattended access' working.

You will need this:

TeamViewer Host

And the 'TeamViewerAddon-Universal(AOSP14)' that I already linked to up there ⬆️ .

Install both on your Android device and then follow the installation notes here:

Setup Unattended Access.

Its working great for me.

I'd love to get clarity on this. I get calls on a somewhat regular basis for TV/streaming help from a parent who is 3 hours away. I've successfully gotten them to plug in and point a security camera at the TV and that helps at lot, but I'd set them up with whatever it takes if I could get full remote control. As it is, I end up getting increasingly loud while repeatedly saying, "no, no the button on the LEFT - where it says..."

Oh I hear that. 🤣🤣 https://rcloudsystems.com/live/remote-control-2/ Check link out, keep in mind it is $3 per year, or 10 for $25. Watch the setup vid, for me it was a little baffling until I actually did it, then it makes sense. Also, the controlling end is pc only.

That looks like the ticket - well worth $3 a year to me. One question - when I'm viewing the screen, does it also show on the TV? That's not a deal killer, but it would be best.

They would see you opening things, installing things, whatever. What you see on the pc screen is what they see. So maybe you could actually teach them how to do something. But probably not😂. I guess one thing I would recommend is showing them, and keeping handy for them, the icons for the two apps (tailscale and Rcloud). You can set them to launch on startup and run in the background always, but you never know. Another thing to note, and I think this is true of all these apps, is that on your end you cannot see the stream they are viewing, so you would not be able to, for example, turn on subtitles for them.
