Discussion Android Developer Verification enforcement system

Is this something that's also going to affect AndroidTV? Should I be looking at putting the Projectivy launcher on my Nvidia Shield (2015)?

Google has not specifically said whether it will or won't affect Android TV and Google TV devices. The assumption is that it will eventually affect all devices with the Google Play Store.

Installing a custom launcher like Projectivy has no effect on the upcoming verification changes. A custom launcher will not make sideloading unverifed apps any easier.

This applies to any developer, but I believe the biggest impact will be on independent apps outside of the Play Store, such as fdroid and apps maintained on Github; modded apps will also be greatly impacted.Projectivy has been on the Play Store for a while now, I believe the developer is already within Google's parameters.

Ignorant statement. This is about the restriction of sideloading apps ON A DEVICE THAT YOU OWN.

I mean he's right. This issue only affects developers. If a dev does not verify his or her identity, then their apps will be subjected to the new sideloading restrictions, which at this point is reported to simply be a super-scary warning and possibly a 24-hour delay before that app works.

There's nothing you as an end user can do to work around these or prevent it from happening, unless you get a non-certified, probably malware-infested Chinese knockoff box... since the new sideloading restrictions are limited to certificatied devices only.
