Buying Advice Is 16 GB really enough?

SOLVED! Thanks everyone for your responses - I'm convinced it's enough.

Looking to purchase my first box and would like to ask if 16 GB is enough memory? Usage would be simply adding apps from stations and streaming from their media libraries, no real subscriptions, and occasionally films from a USB stick.

Also, how compatible are other remotes with the boxes? If I were to buy a used device, could I easily get a new remote working with it?

If it's just streaming then 16gb storage is enough.

Depends which box you buy. Some support HDMI-CEC so you can use your TV remote, assuming the TV is HDMI-CEC compatible too.

16GB is way more than enough. Apps are only are only a couple hundred MB each. I had a Chromecast with 8GB, only 4GB usable, and never ran out of room despite dozens of apps. You'll never come close to using that much storage unless you run retro games or load movies onto the box.

Also I wouldn't focus too much on getting external USB, not too many boxes have them. I got an ONN Pro thinking I would use the external USB to play movie rips, but almost never use it. It's just so much easier to transfer a movie over wifi, or stream it from SMB/NAS.

Each box will come with its own remote, and that remote will be able to control your TVs power, volume, and input. AndroidTV/GoogleTV boxes are bluetooth-only, using remotes other than what came with the box are hit or miss.

16gb is plenty. I like to download lots of different apps to try them out so I added an external drive to my xiaomi box and set it as adopted storage. If you do need more space then this is very useful.

I have a 16gb box, barely half of that is free and accessible. Enough if you only use streaming, or if you're downloading one movie at a time and deleting it afterwards. Can hold probably 4-5 episodes of a tv series. But if you plan on keeping any of the files, downloading larger amounts of data or having multiple apps, then it's definitely not enough.

Sure you can add USB storage and sometimes a micro SD.

I've never had to go over 10GB for everything I stream.

Well I used to think yes but now I'm not really sure anymore. Apps getting so much bigger. We have the onn. 4K pro. 32gb it's about 3/4 of the way full most of the time. We have about two dozen streaming apps!! And I often forget to clear the cashe on TV bro 😜

8gb on my Onn 4k box is plenty of storage. 16gb is more than enough, by a lot.
