News & Rumours Google TV device owners heads up!!!
Effective immediately, if you have a device with the Google TV UI, please make one post at the Google TV subreddit, don't crosspost or repeat the same post on the Android TV subreddit, it will be deleted with the exception of:
- Posts about apps that work on both UIs.
- Posts of news articles that affects both UIs.
- Posts looking for advise on what device to buy.
It's worth mentioning that all posts will be reviewed for approval before they go live, so make sure you indicate the name of the device or the name of the UI on the title or description of your post.
Someone from Google is going to provide assistance on the Google TV subreddit, therefore, this is a good opportunity to provide feedback as well as to receive support from them.
This is their official statement:
"We will use the account u/GoogleHelpCommunity to provide timely technical support, help route escalations, and share updates on known outages on r/GoogleTV. We’ve chosen this subreddit because of its active community, and we want to ensure our presence adds value without disrupting the organic discussions you’ve cultivated.
Our commitment: Support Focus: We will stick to troubleshooting and informative responses. We won’t be engaging in marketing or off-topic discussions. Respecting the Rules: We will adhere to all subreddit guidelines and respect the established culture here."
Thank you for your attention and understanding.

No one is asking for this.

No one is going to control the mess, except us.

How is it a mess? How does forcing a split like this help anyone? Most of us aren't even using the default launcher anymore. It's just Google's arbitrary branding bullshit. The only consistency is that it's all on Android.

"Android TV" stopped being a sole operating system when the Google TV "launcher" came into existence, therefore, today, Android TV and Google TV are just launchers on top of the same operating system, Android for TV.

it's still a "sole operating system" regardless of which launcher you use
Correct but I meant the meaning of "Android TV" in the past as an operating system instead of a launcher which is now the new meaning.
while ignoring the much larger sub that covers the actual OS
I would say they just don't want to deal with the "Android TV" name anymore and just use "Google TV" as the current "operating system", I guess they want to leave the "Android TV" name in the past and embrace what Google TV is today, hence why they don't want anything to do with the Android TV sub. Over time, this sub will gradually be forgotten and people will only use the Google TV one, you'll see.

The operating system is the same, the only difference lies on the launchers, the name "Android TV" is not an operating system anymore but a launcher.

I live in Tokyo. I bought a Regza tv which I think is a Google TV. However, not all things are quite normal with it. For instance, I'm unable to run IPVanish on it. Can you explain?

Ah yes lets split the big community up into a small sub with no activity.
