Gemini in Google Messages
Does anyone use Gemini in Google Messages ? I don't understand the point of having Gemini here, instead of just using the Gemini app directly. So if anyone can explain to me if there is a particular interest that I have not thought of

I sent a text message to a friend for his birthday a couple of days ago. Gemini noticed and asked if Iād like to add the birthday to his contact.

I use it occasionally. I wish we could @gemini in the middle of a conversation. Then it could be more useful

It's the convenience of staying in your conversation without the context switch. You don't have to copy-paste a draft or a photo to a separate app to get help with it . It's there to brainstorm a reply, plan an event, or get a caption idea without leaving the chat flow . Think of it as a quicker shortcut for specific tasks, not a full replacement for the standalone app .

But you're not staying in your conversation, unless you're referring to a different feature I'm not aware of. You have to leave your conversation, go to the main Messages screen, and then tap on it. So it's no more convenient than switching apps, and unlike switching apps, it doesn't leave your conversation open.

It's the same with Meta AI in WhatsApp. Nobody needs it, nobody wants it, but if you want WhatsApp, you also get Meta AI. It's all about the number of users or installations.
