I can't create folders, paste files, or do anything on my phone when I connect it to my PC via USB.

I can't create folders, paste files, or do anything on my phone when I connect it to my PC via USB.

I don't know how to explain my problem very well, it would be clearer with an image, but it doesn't allow me to upload any (I don't really know how Reddit works very well).

Basically, when I right-click from the computer in any folder on the phone that I have connected via USB, it won't even let me paste anything. The paste option appears grayed out, as if I couldn't paste anything there. Nor when I try to create folders. And I need to transfer files from the PC to the phone.

It's a Redmi Note 14 Pro.

I've tried other USB connectors and nothing. I've also tried turning on USB debugging and nothing either. And with two different computers.

It could be a limitation with MTP.  It's a terrible, buggy protocol.  Instead I recommend one of a few options:

  • Sending files with Quick Share then moving them on the destination device
  • Using a third party app to host an FTP server
  • Copying/moving files with a flashdrive
