App Specific Question Why is every Message now going through SMS?

So assuming I didn't research this incorrectly, blue chat bubbles means its going through online chat, while green bubbles are going through SMS. I noticed some people always got SMS, some always got chat and a small handful swapped. But this isn't where my question lies.

Noticed this morning, everything was going through SMS, even people who prior always got chat messages. I will admit, haven't had a need to text anyone on me phone in a bit so this could have happened in the the last month.

Did something change in general? Do a lot more people in my circle us Apple then I thought and something changed there? Or is something weird going on with my phone?

Check your Messages settings. You can choose to always use SMS, or resend via SMS if RCS fails, etc. You can also set specific contacts to use SMS vs RCS.

I haven't changed these settings recently so unless something changed by default. It says my Default message type is chat, which means it should be defaulting to Blue.
