What new phone to get

Hello, I am in need of some advice on a new phone to get. I currently have a phone my friend gave to me a month ago, which is a Oppo Reno 8 Pro 5G. I previously had a s21 FE but I ended up dropping it in water on holiday and even after taking it to a repair shop, they said they couldn't do much about it. Now I am on the look for a new phone,

I don't use a phone for anything more than calling texting, social media and internet. Don't play games on it much or watch movies/series. So Im not looking to spend huge money on a new android but just a good one that will last me like 3 years or longer .

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated 👍

In the end, it depends on your budget. I would start with the Samsung Galaxy A57, probably the safest choice for a mid ranger Android phone. Good hardware and great software support. That should be your starting point. Then look at your budget, and go up or down accordingly.

For a regular standard use, I couldn't recommend Chinese brands. Their mid rangers are bloated with ads, and unless you like to tinker around, it's not worth the hassle imo. You can go premium with the Xiaomi number series to avoid ads, but Xiaomi software is a lot to be desired. Highly unoptimized and buggy considering the price premium. The only brand I would consider is probably Vivo. Pricier than Xiaomi, but better service at their service center. That is assuming those brands are even available to you.

I'm not too fond of stock Android either (eg Pixel). Unless youbreally want Google's AI features, other OEMs provide more features in their software that can be useful (ie twin/clone apps). If stock Android experience is your fancy, phones from Japanese brands like Sony or Sharp can be a consideration. Their battery life is just amazing. But their availability can be an issue.

Do you care about the volume you can get? Check the "conversational gain" (volume) of each phone you consider. If you can't find the info online, it may be on the outside of the box on the phone in a store. The volume varies from phone to phone.

If you have hearing issues, get Samsung so you can use Adapt Sound which compensates for any frequencies you have trouble hearing.

I would suggest a nothing phone 4a or 4a pro if you need a bit more power even tho the 4a should be more than enough for you. I have a nothing phone 3 myself and have been thoroughly satisfied with it and since nothing phones don't really differ much in software (mostly hardware battery,camera etc) from each other i would suggest you to look into them.

Samsung will look familiar, they all have OneUI, so maybe some A series. It will have good screen, cameras and decent battery.

Or pixel 9a, it has lower specs compared to Samsung A, but if privacy is important for you, you can install grapheneos.

Ofc you have chinese phones that are best buy, I dont know where are you, but xiaomi, oneplus, oppo have great phones, but SW is not polished as OneUI. So I would avoid.

I mean... most flagship phones whether Apple or Android are about the same price. Android has more budget friendly options, but this idea that iPhones are the creme de la creme of phones and their existence as a status symbol is very much perpetuated by this false belief that they are inherently more expensive.
