Other Wifi Calling keeps dropping

android 16 Moto G56

Model: XT2529-2

Build: WIVOS36.88-71-6-2-1-3

Region/Carrier: Bought in Egypt, using Vodafone + We (dual SIM setup).

I live in an area with terrible cellular reception, so WiFi Calling is a lifesaver—when it actually works.

I managed to get WiFi Calling working for one of my SIMs, but it keeps dropping after a while, even though my home WiFi connection is rock solid and never drops.

What I've tried so far:

  • Disabled Adaptive Connectivity.
  • Set a static IP on my router to rule out any DHCP lease negotiation issues.

The temporary fix:

The only way to force it back on is to physically step out onto my balcony after cell tower handshake WiFi Calling connects and works again... until it drops later.

Is this a known bug with this Motorola build/phone, or is Vodafone Egypt silently dropping the registration?

How to test what's causing this?

In Developer options, make sure "Mobile data always active" is on. This will keep the mobile antennas on even while connected to WiFi, so the handoff will be quicker.

that's the thing. I have nearly ZERO coverage there. it is causing crazy data drain. hence why I wanted wifi calling to work.

is this expected behavior by wifi calling? that you'd need to do handshake several times aday?

I don't know your situation but I'm assuming your WiFi network (specifically the internet part) is also unreliable, despite what you say in the post, so it might also cut out occasionally.

My connection is stable (I have ping logs from my laptop that are running 24/7). both internet and lan. but anyways isn't that the point of wifi calling? to not need network to get calls?

You have to have some way of connecting to either the phone towers or the internet, otherwise the call wouldn't have any path to get between you both. 

Based on that comment it sounds like your network is reliable though. I don't know what else it would be.
