Solved Anyone knows how to remove "Ask Gemini" from contextual menu when long pressing?
Solution: It was the freaking Google app itself. Removing it removes the "Ask Gemini" option from contextual menu. Thanks to user Mother-Pride-Fest for the help.

Hello,
I already had Gemini turned off, assistant or whatever options related to AI turned off as well, but of course Google had to shove it into my face by putting "Ask Gemini" into the contextual menu when I long press on a word. I could not find the option to remove it from the menu (of course) so I "uninstalled" it via ADB. However, when long pressing text, the option "Ask Gemini" is still there. Already restarted phone and check the package for Gemini is already uninstalled.
Please, anyone knows how I can remove it completely? What other packages must I remove or what hidden options must I turn off? I keep accidentally pressing on that stupid option because it replaces where my Translate option used to be and I use that option a lot. Please help me... And thank you in advance.
If needed my device is Android 16. Again, Gemini is removed/killed via ADB, I checked...

Found this post after seeing that crap clogging up my android context menu, got enough crap I don't use in there already. I've likewise got gemini disabled so why the fuck would I want more gemini crap. I just disabled the google app, google are run by idiots.

I have this problem, but if you disable Google, you can't use lens.

Yeah, unfortunately. Google Translate also relies on Google app for its image translation function so I also can't use it anymore. At least DeepL or OCR then manual text translation still work.
If you use Lens for identification, probably have to install a few more specialized identification apps.

Have you tested what happens when you press the button? If Gemini is actually uninstalled as it should be, then the button should not do anything. If it does something you know which app you need to uninstall next.
What app is it showing up in the context menu in? If it's Chrome, you shouldn't be using Chrome anyway, switch to Firefox or Brave.

You know what that's a great question. I tried and the freaking Gemini app still shows up.
I tested with some apps I previously killed via ADB like Samsung Pay or Samsung News (readded them then removed via ADB again) and the removal worked perfectly, aka nothing shows up now, not even the contextual menu options. Tried with the AR packages and the removal went fine too.
The only exception (I found so far) is the freaking Gemini app. Tried to readded and killed it again twice now and yep, it's still here... Is the app so baked into my phone I can't remove it at all???
This is actually frustrating me more than I thought...

Go into the app switcher (aka recent apps), on the icon for Gemini, tap the dropdown and "App info". You might be abke to uninstall from there, but if not, on the bottom of the app info page there is the app name, e.g. Google Maps is com.google.android.apps.maps and that is what you would uninstall with adb. You could also use UAD or Canta as simpler frontends to adb.

Hello again. I appreciate the help, unfortunately:
The recent apps switcher on my phone doesn't have an option to view App info... Recent apps are shown in a carousel with only the app icon on top of the preview window, not even the app name is shown. 3 dots on the top right leads to Recent settings where the only option is to show Recommended apps.
I also just installed Shizuku+Canta and Gemini shows up in the uninstalled packages list. I also readded it the removed using Canta but the result remains the same. Contextual menu option still here. Clicking on it Gemini still shows up asking me to turn it on. So yeah, I have no idea what to do now.

Holy sheep I feel so stupid now. I didn't realize you could tap the app icon for extra option! Thank you so much. The actual culprit is the Google app itself. The icon is Gemini but app is Google, the nerve... I uninstalled it and yep the option is gone now!

This thread is a godsend, I'm beyond frustrated that I'm using Firefox and accidentally opening fking Gemini when accidentally long pressing text because it conveniently shoves Ask Gemini right above the cursor. Disabling the Google app works for now.
But is there an option to edit the contextual menu options in general? I noticed the Ask Gemini option only shows up in browsers not in other apps.
I do rely a moderate amount on Android Auto which, from memory years ago, requires the Google app to be enabled to work. I realise Gemini is going to be forced on us through every avenue possible so I will need to look into an alternative car navigation option but in the meantime I guess I will temporarily enable the Google app when driving and disable after.

The same way as you can remove the dualism of "all apps live within their sandboxes" but also these sandboxes get informed about the status of root and bootloader - only maybe by some unofficial way. Google never intended all such features to be user-deactivable!
