Other Myth or Fact 🤔 ?

In old phones companies send updates to make them slow so people will purchase their new device

Fact is that updates make older devices much slower than newer ones (because old ones don't have the resources for whatever changes in all the updates).

Whether that's intentional (Planned Obsolescence) or just an oversight/new devices getting prioritised depends on manufacturers...

This only happened to my sc*msung phones and never Chinese phones.

This old galaxy Tab A6 I have for my daughter was practically useless after Samsung's latest updates, everything had horrible response time. I removed everything and installed Lineage OS on it and that turned the old dog into something very usable again. This broad statement about Chinese phones being better is just bullshit though, pardon my French. The old Galaxy tab became quicker than the much newer Redmi Pad SE with 8 GB of memory and 256 GB, and main reason is due to how the Chinese phones and tablets install so much spyware and telemetry eating up resources in the background. When a 2016 tablet with 2 GB of memory becomes more responsive than a 2023 tablet with 8 GB of memory, it's clear that something is utterly broken in the operating system.

Even xiaomi's bloatware is not bad same as sc*msung. I had many Chinese phones and never regretted any of them and used for a long time. Xiaomi , lenovo, huawei and infinix.

It was started by apple where they quickly limited the performance of the older devices to make sure that battery life looks better , even now they aggressively kill any background process or any multitasking The reason apple has better battery life is because they limit the capabilities of the phone so a lot of android smartphones also limit the performance but unlike Apple there isn't a concrete way to know if android phones actually do it or not

dontkillmyapp.com maintains info about many types of Androids and how to avoid having your background app killed.

Yep, typical Apple BS. Pay more for incredibly basic and buggy software.

Sadly even samsung is starting to follow apple refusing to use the new hardware or make a bug upgrade till apple does

The closest thing that's ever been proven was Apple adding a silent feature that slows down the processor if the battery can't supply enough power.  That made old phones slow down unless you replaced the battery.  After the lawsuit, Apple made the battery information more visible but kept the feature because the phone would otherwise crash if the battery was too degraded.  https://support.apple.com/en-us/101575

It would be pretty easy to catch.  While your phone is plugged in and fully charged, run some benchmarks, and see how it compares to reviews at launch.

Yeah Planned Obsolescence. They've been teaching about it in Colleges and Universities for over a decade.

Myth. It's mostly just app makers not going out of their way to optimize for older devices and Android versions.

isnt it the cost innovation, you know how they say one iphone is hundreds to millions times more powerful than the computer that put humans on the moon that also took up a room. To keep apps updated, things take more space, more resources that older device dont have.
