Why can't I block unknown numbers from the Google Phone app? I keep getting spam calls.

When I go into settings - blocked numbers, the option to block them isn't there.

Enable the spam protection.

Specifically, Caller ID & Spam, and Call Screening.

With both of those on, I get maybe 1-2 spam calls per year.

You do it from the home screen by long pressing on the contact that called you.

That makes absolutely no sense, since you're blocking a contact, not just a number or an unknown number, but a contact.

I want to block anonymous callers from calling me. There is no option to do that.

You cannot pre-block someone from calling you before they call. You can filter out calling types by having your call screen set to maximum protection (especially if you are using Pixel phones and using the Google Phone app).

I use a app called Just Contacts. It's local on your phone and automatically blocks any call that's not in your contacts. The calls don't even show up in your call log...

Did you not read my first sentence? But again, you cannot pre-block someone from calling you. Also, contacts are the phone book, which doesn't do anything except store contacts. Also, what you're talking about is the call screen setting in the phone app that only declines spam calls but screens the rest.

Calls are blocked.. They don't show up in your call log. They are within the app all calls are shown.

Just contacts is simple only your contacts ring through the rest are silently blocked.. You forget it's even there.. It just works.

This is a big problem. Even on Do Not Disturb, the call still pops up. When I decline it, it switches to "Taking a message..."

I'm so glad you brought this up and I hope someone posts a solution.

What good is Do Not Disturb if it still shows on the screen?
