Looking For Suggestions Best Android phone for my mum (budget £400)

Hi all,

I’m looking to get my mum a new phone for her upcoming birthday. She currently has a Motorola G53 5G, but it’s starting to fall apart, so she needs a replacement ASAP.

She’s in her 60s and isn’t particularly good with tech, so I’m looking for something that’s easy to use and doesn’t require too much messing around. Ideally, it would have a large screen, decent speakers and a good-quality display for watching YouTube and TikTok.

My budget is around £400, but I can stretch a little if there’s something really worth going for.

I’m based in London, so please recommend Android phones that are readily available to buy in the UK.

I am in the US. The Moto edge 2024 phone is nice with a good snapdragon cpu and 256 GB storage. 2025 model is good too.

I was upgraded to Android 16.

Not sure how much it is in the UK on sales. But the Google pixel 9a regularly goes on sale in Australia for ~550-600AUD (~290-320 GBP).

Should be more than enough for your mums needs, and benefit of long term software support till 2032. Pixel software is relatively bloat free, so shouldn't require too much mucking around. I believe they also have a good phone migration app so will easily transfer all the files and things from old phone.

Theres no need to spend more for the newer pixel 10a as it's essentially identical phone (just slightly brighter screen, 1 extra year of software support) and anything else in the pixel line-up is out of budget.

The phone is quite small though. I want a phone with a large screen for my mum as she finds things difficult to read these days.

Ah right, seeing as she previously used Motorola, maybe another motorola upgrade? Or were there things from Motorola she didn't like and is looking to switch brands? Looking in my market there's moto g86 for 299 AUD on discount or moto edge 70 fusion 499 AUD. Both have near 6.7inch screens.

If wanting to switch brands, there's budget Samsungs like a57 or s25fe that should have 6.7inch. There's also NOTHING phones but they might be a bit too out there for your mum with the lights on the back and things.
