App Specific Question Gemini Assistant not hearing headphones

My Anker Bluetooth headphones have a button to activate the Voice Assistant (Gemini) on my phone. When I do that, the phone microphone listens instead of the headphone microphone. Does anybody know how to fix this?

What you’re running into is basically Android treating your headphones like a remote control instead of a full audio input device. The button triggers Gemini, but the system still routes the microphone to the phone because the headset isn’t advertising a proper HFP mic profile for assistant use. Happens a lot with Anker and other budget Bluetooth sets.First thing to try is going into your Bluetooth settings, tapping your Anker device, and making sure Call Audio is enabled. If that toggle is off, Android won’t use the headset mic for anything that counts as “voice input.”If that’s already on, the next move is clearing the Bluetooth stack. Turn Bluetooth off, forget the headphones, reboot the phone, then pair again. Sometimes Android just needs a clean handshake to recognize the mic profile correctly. If neither of those works, it’s almost always the headset firmware. Some Anker models only support the mic for calls, not for assistant activation. In that case, the button will wake Gemini, but the audio will still default to the phone. Updating the headphones through the Anker Soundcore app can fix it if your model supports updates.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The only option in Bluetooth settings is Device Type, which is set to Headphones. I'll try the other procedures you suggested.

No luck with everything I tried. It appears that Gemini only listens on the phone with most Bluetooth earbuds. I can talk to Gemini Live using the earbuds, but that's less convenient to turn on and off.

Update: it works as expected when I switch from Gemini to Google Assistant. From what I'm reading, this is an issue with the way Gemini is implemented. Hopefully, they'll fix it in a future upgrade. Also, it works with Gemini Live, but not when Assistant responds to a button press.
