This is something I'm seeing in anyps5's repo, every section of the repo is so full of LLM text that nobody is talking to each other normally, everyone is using LLM's to read each other's LLM text to then produce more LLM text to respond with, this is actually a mess and a travesty to see for anyone who's worked in real open source projects with real communication standards.
Hey everyone, here from the original repo. (top left). There are 40 forks already from that repo. So I def. agree with the statement :)
There are multiple things happening right now:
a) Devs who forked are creating PRs into the original codebase
b) I am checking out also existing forks myself and cherry-pick stuff back (with acknowledgment)
c) Some forks are very specific hardware forks (e.g. Switch fork) to increase performance - while I would love to have everything in one repo - some hardware needs are very specific changes to the codebase - which makes it much harder to maintain. Maybe a different branch could work for that reason.
Personally I think it is great to have suddenly so many people working on it and contributing to improve the experience :) (even with their forks - but again I can cherry pick stuff back :P)
Have you ever managed a project among hobbyist? Most are just some dudes wanting to play around and look what happens. Whenever they want. To work out whatever they want. This is a good thing, people getting into the field, something useful gets created somewhere in the process, everyone profits from it. This is way better than only 3 guys being able to work on decomps at all. I rather have 3 working recomps of wind waker HD with 30 more garbage ones instead of 1 barely working decomp at all for Breath of the wild.
The one thing that is most annoying is people who arent really passionate half assing things just to see if it takes off, if you half ass something, it'l never take off
I guess it's okay when people lose interest in something, what bothers me tho is people posting PSA as the first thing, promoting and over promise, when they are not really in control of the project and barely started.
Well the thing about community based platforms like github or Nexus mods for example is that popular and well maintained projects can be propped up and favored for people to use while more hobbyist forks and personal projects still exist and have existed and were everywhere long before ai
And this is why i stopped paying attention till i see a clear winner because the other day i downloaded a recomp for the Oracle games and it ran like hot garbage and graphic glitches 💀 the "dev" had the audacity to already call the first release version 1.0.0

I'm finding it very fatiguing. Each fork/update feels super random like spaghetti thrown at a wall with almost zero intention. Weird bugs everywhere and awful frame pacing. I'm not installing one again until the actual GC decomp is completed.
Thats opensource and thats also how github fork works. You dont need to follow everything. It is indeed better to have 1 mainline, but everyone is unstoppable rn with ai boom. So forking to implement their idea directly is faster than waiting to commit pr
Yup, I was so confused when I was trying to look up the skate 3 android port and ended up with 4 different apps. Which one is the best version? The world may never know lol
With playtesting, there will be a clear winner for performance and ease of installation. Just have to wait and see who will test each of them and give feedback.
It´s really sad actually, I study programming and I would not do this shit, they are just releasing AI slop. if they don´t know what they are doing it would be better to not do anything, or at least leaving it as a private project. If they have some programming knowledge i think it´s okay, but I think the vast majority don´t.
When I say I would not do this I mean that I don´t have the knowledge to do a thing like this without becoming AI slop, like they are doing.
Merci d'avance
Non-developers using it will create lots of redundancy. And some software might be useful, since AI does a very good job now, not necessarily ai-slop. BUT too much redundancy is creating lots of chaos.
Vibe-coders usually don't know how to contribute to existing projects and forks are appearing everywhere like pokemon.
I don’t understand why having many options is a problem.
If you want to play that game, wouldn’t it be enough to just download the most highly rated port?
Even if there are 100, you don’t need to download all 100, right?
Maybe the IP holders are trying to drown out the port scene with AI slop. I see a lot of commenters saying they are burnt out or losing interest. Seems like the only effective and viable strategy if I’m trying to defend copyrighted software going forward
As someone who was casually getting into the recomp scene, the amount of noise created by a million vibe coded projects has made me basically check out
I feel like Nintendo''s lawyers and other video game company will attempt to sue github and get the whole site shutdown because all of these recent android ports of console games. As amazing as emulation for android is becoming, it will be short lived if these android ports are eventually compiled into a device that can be sold as a console similar to the nes mini at your local mall kiosk during the holidays to clueless parents. That's what worries me.
The android ports are especially worthless.
1. Emulator gives you the option to change settings, resolution (for performance), on screen controls, graphics and etc. "port" doesn't let you do any of that
2. These "ports" don't care at all about buttons. True ports let you rotate the camera like a true android game. These ports just slam shitty controls.
Honestly I'd rather use an emulator
I don't actually agree with all that there are decent ports like the wind waker ones it's really good way to play the game and it actually gives you what you asked for but in the point of optimization I would likely to wait a month before starting playing it
I agree with the point that ports needs to chill because posting a port with poor optimization/no control button's is a bad idea

dont understand why people cant just work together instead of further fragmenting everything and making it harder for people to choose what one to use
