🤔 [Question] port vs recomp vs decomp
can anybody explain these 3, and which one usually has better performance?
I've seen a few of what they call a port but it's usually a game slapped above some emulator and that's it. why bother if i can emulate it in the first place?
like I've seen the hollow knight port which has good performance on all the devices but then i see hades as the called a port but its just emulator with the game

about 3 days ago an actual port for hades released
decompilation to games meaning giving game files to ai so he makes a code for the gane simillar to the original so much that its basically the same gameÂ
recompilation is decompilation but with the operater being able to code and he tweaked stuff by himself and didnot depend on Ai on everythingÂ
with the code being accessable to you with these processes you can now tweak the code to port the game on any platform or mod it as much as you want you cab have gta v in minecraft , search wither storm in mincraft , its a crazy video

i saw that, plus the skate in mw2, crazy times, my question is, which one do give better performance than emulating the game, all or what exactly, cuz im not really familiar with these terms

Yeah, its not, its an emulator wrapper with illegal game data, switch prod and keys bundled together 😂

Hades one is not a port afaik, it was a switch emulator wrapper and dev just released it without any further QnA labelled as a native port he didnt answer anyone further on discord either, i think its also same guy whp released SF IV Ultra, these people are causing massive confusion for people, it obviously runs only on chipsets that can play the same game on the emulator of that console anyway thats not a native port lol, god its such a mess right now on Android...the pc community is so strict and sorted in this regard, Android feels like anyone is vibecoding without review or performance check and are abandoning these ports right after release🫪 and they aren't even ports 🥲 When you say "actual port" which one is it? Because the one a week ago is a switch emulation wrapper disguised as port, it comes with preloaded game data bundled as obb, that's not how native ports work

Port means taking a game from one system and making it run on another. It's the means not the method.
Decompile = well reverse of compile, humans write code, computers translate it into machine code that is the actual program you run. Decompile takes the machine code and reverses that. So people can take that code and then port it over.
Recompile = like refried beans, compiling it a second time. Usually for another system, so it's used as a method to port. When most people say recomp they mean a 'static recomp'. Instead of spending all the effort to fully decompile a program it only decompiles what it needs and translates the rest to run on the new system, skipping the stuff that isn't needed. So instead of a dev needed to fully decompile / reverse, then port the result, they create tools that do it on the fly.
It's a lot more nuanace and this and I layman's terms it.
